Snorunt looked at the incoming tornado. She turned her head to the side and then jumped into the air with ease. Tornado Torzure flew past the little bugger. And he kept going, and going, and going.

Snorunt swiveled in the air so that she faced the passing Tornado. She opened her mouth and took in a deep breath. The cold air clumped together in front of her to create an ice crystal. She tossed the shard towards Torzure

"Torzure, loop back and Drill Peck right through that Ice Shard and into Snorunt!" I yelled.

The Tornado flew up and started head back towards Snorunt. The spinning trident acted like a drill, cutting into the incoming Ice Shard. Torzure would take the hit head on, but on his terms, not Snorunts. The ice shattered on impact; the ice dust sparkled as it traveled along with Torzure in the tornado. Torzure continued moving towards the still falling Snorunt, who I believed to be unable to maneuver out of the way in the air. But, you never know; she could be clever, and in the end that might just be the kind of Pokemon I need on my team.

    vs. Snorunt BP2

The little Snorunt had managed to dodge Empoleon’s Drill Peck attack and countered it with an attack of her own, Ice Shard. Snorunt was pretty small, and as a result, was very agile and dodged attacks with ease. The small little “runt” would prove very useful in a battle.

Jesse commanded his Pokémon to turn go in a loop and headed back for Snorunt. Since the little Pokémon was already in the air, she could not dodge that attack this time around. Empoleon would take minimal damage opposed to the damage from being hit. At least, that was the plan.

Torzure came crashing through the sphere of ice that Snorunt had created. The “ice dust” glistened in the light produced by the setting sun. It almost looked like a contest battle. The shimmering sparkles fell to the ground as Torzure struck Snorunt in the middle of her body.

The little snow hat Pokémon flew back, spinning like a runaway fan blade. She was headed for the edge of the mountain, but luckily I was able to block her path.

“You may have to ease up on the battles,” I said. “I mean, we are here on the end of the mountain.”

The little Snorunt shoved me like I was here enemy. I’m ashamed to say, but I was actually pushed back a bit. The little thing packed quite a punch. Then, she started to glow. Suddenly, she split into four different copies of herself. They formed a circle around the Empoleon who had just reached the end of his attack.

All five of the Snorunt inhaled deeply. When they exhaled, they blew powder snow at the Empoleon. Would Jesse and Empoleon be able to figure out which of the copies was the real Snorunt?

Torzure's twister drilled into Snorunt's small body. The little Pokemon spiraled away towards the edge of the mountain. Dee leapt to a heroic rescue, halting the Pokemon's trajectory that clearly was heading towards the edge of the mountain.

“You may have to ease up on the battles,” Dee said. “I mean, we are here on the end of the mountain.”

For a brief second, I thought that a magical barrier would be put up to help against that, you know, like in video games.

I brushed my head embarrassedly behind my head. "Sorry, just trying my all."

Torzure came out of his tornado and bowed in apology. "It'll probably not happen again," he said, though he knew that Dee couldn't understand him.

The Snorunt turned to Dee and shoved him back. She probably thought that she didn't need anyone's help. She hopped closer and started to glow a misty white. Her form fazed as she split into five different copies of herself. They encircled Torzure, who started looking at each one franticly.

The five Snorunt inhaled deeply, expanding their little bodies, until they exhaled bits and pieces of snow at Torzure.

There was no time for me to Foresight to see which one was real, let Torzure know, and command a counteraction. So, I remembered what I would do in a contest. I didn't have to know which one was real if I could hit them all at the same time!

"Torzure, use Whirlpool in a close burst! Shoot it down and around!" I yelled, making sure Dee and I were out a safe distance.

Torzure nodded and lifted his beak into the air. His body shone light blue, while his crown shone bright white. From his mouth, a small pool of water formed and started swirling swiftly. The whirlpool grew in size as its radius shot out and arched down like a shield around Empoleon, a reverse whirlpool than usual. Torzure's whirlpool now surrounded him, and he cried out, jumping into the air, the whirlpool below him. The sound signaled the whirlpool to pulsate outward, crashing into the powdered snow. Since the whirlpool produced more water than frozen snow, it didn't freeze right away.

The whirlpool reached each Snorunt, and would encompass them in water, that was slowly freezing over thanks to its own attack. Torzure threw it down and out so a small "eye" was left, a gap that he could safely stay within.

    vs. Snorunt BP3

Empoleon raised his hands high into the air. A swirling body of water started to appear above the emperor penguin Pokémon. Pretty soon, it was pretty large. Empoleon motioned his arms in a downward direction. The whirlpool seemed to follow the Pokémon’s lead and moved down into the center of the group of Snorunt.

Empoleon jumped upwards before he could be trapped, leaving the whirlpool and Snorunt group below him. The Snorunt were caught up in the whirlpool. They swirled around in circles like a house caught up in a tornado. The Snorunt shadows each dissolved one by one. They left behind a puff of smoke as they disappeared.

Pretty soon, as a result of the attack they were using, the whirlpool froze up. Only one Pokémon was left within the frozen swirl: the lone Snorunt. However, instead of suffering damage, the Pokémon was actually being healed. It must have been due to the Snorunt’s Ice Body ability. When a Pokémon with that ability was exposed to ice, whether by hail, snow, or eating a snow cone, they would regain health.

Suddenly, the perfect plan had turned into a minor inconvenience. Snorunt was regaining health by the minute, and given the position that she was frozen in, she would fall of the side of the mountain if the ice was broken suddenly. Snorunt would probably regain all of her health if Jesse didn’t do something quick, and if he made the wrong move, Snorunt would be lost forever!

Each of the Snorunt clones was dissipated one by one. The whirlpool encompassed the real Snorunt before fully freezing over. However, in my haste to counter, I forgot about Snorunt's ability to heal when exposed to ice-type moves. Also, she was knocked back over the edge, but the frozen whirlpool held it in place.

I had to do something fast or else she'll regain all her health back, or worse, fall off the side of the mountain. Torzure looked worried in the middle of the the ice donut; there wasn't really anything it could do to help the situation besides trying to break the ice, which was I'll advised.

"Torzure, we have to deal with this situation first. Even if we don't catch her, we don't want her to fall off the side of the mountain. Return!" I yelled firing off the Pokeball's light to encompass Torure, returning him to the digital coding world of Pokeballs.

I picked out Proton's Pokeball and tossed it into the center of the ice whirlpool. My Metagross' body shimmered and reflected against the frozen flat twister.

I pointed out the location of Snorunt in the frozen whirlpool and commanded, "Proton quickly! Use Metal Claw on the Ice Donut. Break it open and then use Psychic to catch Snorunt before she falls off."

Proton lifted its four claws into the air in four different directions. Its supercomputer fast mind was able to locate the exact spots to hit to shatter the Ice Donut. He clawed into the Ice Donut, cracking and shattering it into small pieces of ice. Snorunt started falling, still unable to react, and Proton zoomed off after her. Its eyes and body started glowing a faint purple. The Psychic aura covered the falling Snorunt, slowly haltung her descent. Proton lifted Snorunt back up to our level before releasing, well, throwing her into the mountain wall.

    vs. Snorunt BP4

In the middle of the pathway, there was a gigantic tornado that was frozen in place. Inside of it was a small lone Snorunt. The icy prison seemed too big for such a small prisoner. The Pokémon was gaining more health by the minute due to its Ice Body ability. Jesse had to think fast, or this battle would have to start all over.

He recalled his Empoleon and replaced it with Metagross. He gave the Pokémon strict orders to free the Snorunt from the trap without allowing it to fall over the edge of the mountain path. Metagross did as he was told and proceeded to dig his four claws into the iceberg. He had calculated the most effective points to hit the frozen whirlpool.

The whirlpool shattered into many tiny pieces. Snorunt flew off toward the end of the mountain. With swift movement, Metagross rushed towards the flying Pokémon. Its eye started to glow faintly. The same glow appeared and surrounded Snorunt. Then, Snorunt stopped falling.

I let out a sigh of relief. It would have been bad if Snorunt had fallen over the edge. Of course, I could have gotten my Dragonite to catch the falling Snorunt if Jesse hadn’t been able to, but I couldn’t interfere unless absolutely necessary, and judging by Jesse’s skills so far, it would never be necessary.

Metagross was happy to have captured Snorunt. You would think that the next move would be to slowly lower Snorunt down to the ground, but Metagross abruptly slammed Snorunt into the side of the mountain, signaling that break time was over.

Snorunt had been slammed so hard that it left a mark in the side of the mountain. The little Pokémon now had to face a big Metagross, but she was determined. She hopped out of the indent and onto Metagross’s head. She bared her teeth, which were the size of needles. Ice started to form around them as she dug them into the top of Metagross’s head and hung on as the huge metal Pokémon twisted and turned in an attack to shake her off.

Proton threw the small Snorunt, slamming her so hard that it left a mark in the side of the mountain. The small Snorunt didn't waver against the huge Metagross now hovering before her. She hopped out of the small indentation, brushing off the dust and dirt from herself, and jumped onto Proton's head. She opened her mouth; a cool frozen glow was forming around them. She dug them into Proton's metal head, and I was surprized that she didn't break her needle-like teeth.

Proton seemed more annoyed than anything as it started shaking its head.

"Proton, use Magnet-rise! Climb higher and higher and then use Hammer Arm to throw it straight down to the ground. If it tries to dodge, use Pursuit!"

I had to plan it out right, cause it seemed like my voice was taken away from me after every move, unable to react as fast as I would normally in a battle.

Sparks started shooting from Proton, though they didn't seem to affect Snorunt who was firmly latched onto its head. Proton started flying upstraight, far enough away from the mountain so that Snorunt couldn't use it to break its fall, but far enough away from the edge. Proton was being careful to do a big amount of damage without knocking it off.

Proton's arms started to glow white as it spun swiftly to hit Snorunt in the head with a huge amount of power. Hopefully, the Pokemon would fall to the ground, creating a huge impact. However, if Snorunt was able to jump off the Proton's head in time, he'd pursue it and hammer arm it.

    vs. Snorunt BP5

Snorunt was hanging onto Metagross’s head for dear life. Metagross twisted and turned, annoyed. Then, Jesse gave Metagross instructions to first use Magnet Rise to fly high into the air. After that, he should use Hammer Arm to smash down on Snorunt. Since Metagross had a highly intelligent brain, it could calculate how much force to put behind the attack so that he would damage Snorunt but now himself.

Metagross started to glow, sparks producing underneath him. Then, he steadily started to climb higher and higher, until he was at a same distance from the mountain to prevent Snorunt from using the mountain to break her fall. Then, with just enough force to damage Snorunt without hurting himself or knocking Snorunt too far a distance, he smashed down on Snorunt with one of his big metallic arms.

The attack knocked Snorunt in a slanted direction towards the mountain. The Pokémon fell down into the gravel that was laid on the mountain to decrease the risk of slipping and falling. The Pokémon had taken a bit of damage. Not only was a Fighting-type attack (which is super effective against Ice-types) been used on her, but she had fallen from a considerable distance.

The Pokémon slowly struggled back to her feet. She looked up at Metagross, who was hovering over the mountain. He seemed slower than usual. Then, she looked over and Jesse and me. Se wondered why we were attacking her. She hadn’t been in the world long, and did not have much contact with humans, so she did not know what was going on.

The last attack had given her a lot of damage. She felt weak and tired. Then, she remembered how she would always suddenly feel energetic whenever it was hailing. If she could just buy herself some time and regain some health, then maybe she could win this battle.

Snorunt started to glow a light blue color. She squealed as she started to concentrate hard. She was trying to conjure up a storm. Then, the skies got darker and chunks of ice, each a different size than the last, started to fall from the sky. The attack would remain active as long as Snorunt was still battling.

Proton managed to knock Snorunt off of itself with ease. Its giant Beldum-like arm crashed into Snorunt, causing her to plummet towards the ground. She stopped her fall with a crash, causing some of the gravel to fly upwards.

Snorunt slowly struggled onto her stubby little feet and started looking around, probably formulating a plan to best deal with us. She gasped for air; she wasn't doing to well. Then, Snorunt started to shine a light blue color. She called out into the air. It all seemed familiar. I then recognized what was going on.

The red sky was being covered by dark clouds. Then, little balls of hail started pouring down over the mountain. She was using hail, just like Walrein did.

Proton did its best to dodged around the bigger chunks, but being so high up and being slow as a side effect of the hammer arm, it was difficult.

However, I also knew that once the hail hit Snorunt, she would start to heal. I couldn't have that happening.

"Proton! Use pursuit. Aim your descent so that you shield Snorunt from the hail."

Proton started to fly downwards in a spiral. The hail spun off his body as he fell. Since he started so high up, the hail that would have reached Snorunt had drastically decreased in number, though some of it still reached Snorunt. Just in case, the Proton would be able to follow Snorunt if she dodged due to the Pursuit.

    vs. Snorunt BP6

Jesse commanded his Pokémon to use Pursuit to try and shield Snorunt from making contact with the hail. The ice-type weather-changing attack would prove to be a major obstacle to Jesse’s plans to capture Snorunt, so he had to try to negate the effects of the hailstorm the best that he could.

Metagross quickly descended down to Snorunt in a spiral fashion. It stopped right over the Pokémon. Its body acted as an umbrella to prevent the hail from falling on Snorunt like an umbrella prevents the user from being drenched with rain; however, some of the hail was still able to make it to Snorunt who would glow a light green color each time.

Metagross groaned as it was continuously pelted by the free-falling hail. It would have probably been best if Jesse just did carried out his attacks as usual. The hail could probably prove to help him since the risk of Snorunt fainting would be decreased.

Snorunt grinned impishly at the Metagross hovering over her. She bent down as low as her already small body and legs would allow her to. Then, she jumped with all of her might, ramming her head into the bottom of the metal brute hovering over her. It was a wonder she wasn’t hurt from the attack, but she was perfectly fine.

Even more surprising, and perhaps due to a lack of friction, her attack caused Metagross to lift a bit higher from the ground. Metagross was hurt even more from the hail because he could not brace himself to withstand the little chunks of ice.

Things weren't going the way I planned. Somehow, Snorunt wasn't injured by Proton's Pursuit, which was supposed to hit her as he shielded her from the hail. In addition, she rammed her head into the bottom of Proton's head. This was going on too long.

"Proton, use Psychic, hold it directly underneath you. You know what to do."

Proton shined light purple as Snorunt was covered head to toe in the Psychic Aura. Proton's size and closeness should completely cover the very small Snorunt from getting any more healing.

I pulled out a Superball; I wasn't playing around. We needed to press on. I tossed the Superball towards Proton and Snorunt. The ball drew closer, and Proton rushed towards the ball, carrying Snorunt directly underneath it at all times. Right when the ball would have hit Proton, it swung up and tossed Snorunt into the ball. Now, it was just to wait to see how super this ball really was.

    vs. Snorunt BP7

Jesse decided to get the battle done with. Things weren’t going the way he wanted, and if he waited too long, the battle could take forever. He pulled out a sturdier version of the Parkball that he had previously used called a Superball.

"Proton, use Psychic,” he commanded his Metagross. Hold it directly underneath you. You know what to do.”

The Pokémon concentrated its telekinetic energy on the little ice-type below it. A light purple aura surrounded the Pokémon. Jesse tossed his Superball at the little Pokémon. At the same time, Metagross used its psychic attack to toss the Snorunt towards the Superball. When both Pokémon collided, the Superball sucked the Pokémon in.

The Superball fell to the ground and swayed from side to side as the Pokémon inside struggled to get out; however, the small circular prison proved to be too much for the Pokémon to handle and the Superball stopped shaking. A deep tone was heard that signaled that the Pokémon had successfully been captured.

I walked over and picked the newly captured Pokémon up and place the Superball that contained it inside my little sack.

“Congratulations on your capture,” I said to Jesse in an almost monotonous voice.

Metagross had taken a bit of damage from the battle with the Snorunt. I wasn’t really sure if Metagross really needed any healing potions at that moment, but I asked anyway because I was required to. Each trainer had his or her own method of dealing with Pokémon injuries, and I could never assume anything.

“So, shall we continue,” I asked, “or do you want to heal your Pokémon.”

A loud deep tone signaled that Snorunt had been successfully captured with the superior Superball.

Dee walked over to the ball, picked it up and placed it in the sack which held the other Pokemon that I've captured: Walrein, Bagon and Tyrogue. Even though I had a long way to go still, I now had to start deciding: which three would I keep, and which could I part with.

“Congratulations on your capture,” Dee said, “so, shall we continue, or do you want to heal your Pokémon.”

"Let's continue on, Proton will be fine," I said as I returned Proton into its Pokeball. It was tough, and physical health wasn't as important as mental health. It would be best to continue up the mountain. I looked on to where the sun was setting and wondered: How is the National Park at night?

Jesse decided against healing his Metagross. It hadn’t taken much damage. It wouldn’t have been wise to use up his potions now because he may need them later. As we walked, I looked over the side of the mountain. We’d gotten high enough that we could see the whole park. It was amazing. The Park Outposts that served as a beacon for rangers and lost trainers shone brightly in the evening sky. Pretty soon, the sun would have completely set, leaving it dark out. Luckily, I had Luxray, who could provide us with much needed light.

As we approached a curve on the side of the mountain, I could see a small figure, about the size of a baby, approaching us. It seemed to be skipping along the trail in the opposite direction as us. As it came closer into view, I could make it out to be a Smoochum. The little Pokémon smiled as it hopped towards us.

I couldn’t help but laugh at the little Pokémon. It looked happy and it looked sort of strange. It was also a baby Pokémon, meaning that whoever raised it would have more leeway in finding the best training method for the Pokémon. Perhaps, Jesse would have liked to capture. I remembered how he had taken an interest in capturing the Jynx that we encountered earlier.

“Are you interested in a Smoochum?” I asked.

OCC: Now That I have some time in between my work, I can Post!

We walked higher up the mountain, so far we could see the whole National Park. There was an eerie calm over the almost night-darkness, being lit by various natural sources like fire and Pokemon and by the Park Outposts that looked like fireflies at this height. It was sure a sight to see. I knew then that I would return to become a ranger myself.

I was glad that Dee had a Luxray or else that darkness might be too much for us to continue. We approached a curve on the side of the mountain when a small Smoochum came hopping towards us. She smiled as her yellow hair bounces along.

Dee laughed a bit and said, "Are you interested in a Smoochum?"

I thought about it long an hard and about the Pokemon I had already captured. Would I really choose a Smoochum over what I had: a Walrein, no; a Bagon, probably not; a Tyrogue, not so sure; a Snorunt, maybe. It kept skipping towards us, smiling all the way. Did it want to leave the mountain with us? I should probably ask it.

As I walked to meet it, I called out Punpun. His lavender coat sparkled as he hopped around me.

"Punpun, ask her if she'd like to join us with a battle," I requested of my male Lopunny.

He nodded and hopped around again until stopping in front of Smoochum. "Why, hello there!" he said to the Kiss Pokemon, "do you want join us?"

I approached waiting to listen for the reply.
