    Default Individual RP: Sorocoroto

    NBP1

Having finally gotten the hang of this rangering business, I went back to my office to take a nice, long nap. It wasn't long until the world before me was disappearing and I was drifting off into my own little world; however, before I could fall completely asleep, another heavy file slammed onto my desk.

"Another trainer!" The secretary yelled. The sudden noise left me with a bit of a headache.

"You really have to stop doing that," I said, packing up my backpack and supplies. I woke Luxray up, who hadn't been bothered by all of the noise and headed back to the Main Gate.

"Aren't you forgetting something?" The secretary said, pointing towards the supply box that held emergency items.

"No," I replied. "I've already gotten all of that." She rolled her eyes after seeing that she'd failed at holding me up.

I smirked and headed on out to the Main Gate. There was another trainer waiting at the gate. The trainer was wearing a white beret, baggy camos paints and an orange tee. He had a Mawile-shaped backpack on his back.

"Welcome to the park," I said as I opened the gate. "I think you're gonna love what's in store for you."

(yay finally! btw is this Dee as in your character that you use to fight in our epic battles, cause this is totally Jesse from those battles)

    --Earlier that Day--
"So lets see," I said as gazed at the sunrise, "Who am I going to bring?"

I looked down at my Pokedex, scanning the many Pokemon I had captured over my journey. The cool breeze of the ocean brushed across the boat's deck, blowing my brother's white beret off my head.

"Hey, wait!" I cried, but my Lopunny, Punpun, quickly hopped over and retrieved it. "Well, now I'm definitely taking you. But that wasn't a question to begin with." I patted Punpun's head as I quickly chose my 5 other Pokemon.

The ship finally docked on the National Park Island. I took a bit to take in the beautiful site of the contrasting environments. I could see far past the trees of the woods to my target: Mt. Oktori. The giant mountain drove up high into the sky. It was a good thing Deveon, my Glaceon, was with me. Even from here I could see the snowy top. I heard tales of many Fighting and Ice types on the mountain. Maybe I'll get lucky.

I stored my items in my Mawile-styled backpack that my mother gave me on the start of my journey and checked in at the front gate. I saw a ranger about 19 years-old, who came up to me.

"Welcome to the park," He said as he opened the gate. "I think you're gonna love what's in store for you."

I looked him over once more and saw that I could trust this man. "Hi, there," I responded. "Sounds like you're just the man I want in the National Park! My name is Jesse. And these is my Lopunny, Punpun." I directed him towards my lavender colored bunny. "I got a full team on me, ready to head out once you are!"

(Yeah, it's the same character. Usually, a new character is made, but I didn't want to make a new character. >:p)

"Ready to head out when you are!" The trainer had responded.

    I nodded my head.

"We'll be going by way of the docks," I said. A ferry that was harbored in the docks was just getting ready to take off. I rushed up to the captain and flashed my ID card. My card allowed me and my guests to have free passage on the docks to and from the areas I went to every day.

The big mountain in the distance grew bigger as we got closer to it. After a short while, we could tell where we were almost there by the sudden chill in the air.

"I hope you like cold weather," I said to the trainer. "Or at least brought a jacket or something."

Pretty soon, the area had changed into an arctic wonderland. Mini glaciers had started to appear in the lake that we were travelling across. Patches of snow were on the ground. The ice-capped mountain had grown to its full size, and we were allowed to depart from the Ferry. Luxray and Jesse followed behind me.

The first thing that we saw upon stepping back on land was a group of Wailren who all seemed to trying a beat a larger, stronger Wailren in battle. The large Wailren caught whiff of us and was instantly glaring at us. I pointed at the big Ice Break Pokemon off in the distance.

"He looks like he wants to come with us. Are you interested?" I said to Jesse. I knew that Jesse may or may not want to battle, but by the look on Wailren's face, we may be forced to battle anyway.

"We'll be going by way of the docks," Dee said.

I saw Dee flash his ID at the ferry’s captain and couldn’t help but chuckle at the innuendo racing in my head. There wasn’t really anyone else around, at least no trainers. I guess it was a slow day at the Park. It wasn’t easy getting to this island. The ferry made its way towards Mount Oktori.

I looked over the railings and saw blobby figures riding alongside us. I could see that they were many water-types that you would find in the Great Lakes section, so I soaked in the scene. There wouldn’t be many water-types on top the mountain. I saw a few Magikarp flopping around, creating splashes that soaked spots into the side of the ferry. Their scales shimmered briefly before they dived back down into the ocean. Shellos, both blue and pink, glided across the opposite side, singing. They reminded me of sirens from fairy tales, but the ferry still kept its course.

I felt a chill in the air as we drew closer to Mount Oktori. The gaggles of water-types started to become scarcer around here. The cold air chilled my skin.

"I hope you like cold weather," Dee said to me. "Or at least brought a jacket or something."

Good thing I had my brother's white trench coat. I thought to myself as I pulled out the coat from my pack. Donning it helped a bit as it draped down to me knees. However, the shorts were a bad idea on my part. Oh well.

Small glaciers spotted the ocean like chips on a chocolate chip cookie. Then they bunched up like a brownie into bigger clusters. Oh man, vanilla brownies are the best… I think the cold was affecting my brain. I need to focus. I was here to look for something, someone specific. Once we get closer to the actual mountain, I’d set the voice player up.

We reached the mountain, and I had to soak in the scenery once more. As we stepped of the ferry, I noticed that the terrain was very icy and snow-covered. I treaded lightly onto the snowy mountain. Dee walked ahead of me. I tried walking in his footsteps, just in case I might fall in. I looked back and waved good-bye to the ferry and its captain. The sparkling of the ice against the sun was stunning. It was so stunning that I almost didn't see the pack of Walrein in front of us.

The larger and stronger looking Walrein noticed us. He must have been the leader or maybe even a bully by the way the other Walrein were attacking them. A claim for dominance or retaliation occurs in all creatures, I guess. The other Walrein stopped as if they had some sort of code. Though, I should be prepared just in case they decided to strike, which would be a catastrophe.

"He looks like he wants to come with us. Are you interested?" the ranger, Dee, said to me.

I didn’t see any fear in his eyes. I should show the same. I didn't seem like there was any way around him, but it wasn't often that I'd have a chance like this.

I turned my brother's beret backwards and let the trench coat blow in the arctic wind epically. I imagined that I’d looked like my brother right then. Looking back towards Dee, I responded with: "Definitely. But first..."

I took out of my pack a Calming Fragrances Plus. I released the smell into the area to try to calm down all the Walrein, including the big one. I didn't want it to turn into a stampede, especially when I wasn't alone.

I took out my sleek stylish Pokedex trying to figure out what information I didn't already know just by looking at this blue and white walrus that was a size of a bear.

*WALREIN: THE ICE BREAK POKEMON: WALREIN SHATTERS ICE WITH ITS BIG TUSKS. ITS THICK BLUBER REPELS NOT ONLY THE COLD, BUT ALSO ENEMY ATTACKS.*

Hmmm, I had to think: which Pokemon would be best. Punpun looked fine in the cold thanks to his fluffs of fur, but should I be looking for a type advantage? Yes, and with his one fighting move, he wouldn't be the best candidate, but I’ll keep him ready. Grass moves would be good, but not against Walrein's Ice attacks, so Hercule and Jasmine were out. Deveon's and Torzure's Ice and Water attacks would be effective against it either. That leaves one Pokemon left.

"From the earth, you burst forth! Proton arise!" I yelled. I knew those coordinator skills would spill over to my regular life.

From my belt, I picked up my Proton’s Pokeball and hit the button that converted it from a small ping pong to a tennis ball size. I released the Pokeball straight into battle, like a pitcher at a baseball game. As it spun, it opened with a brilliant light, showing the silhouette of my Metagross. Its silver body melded in well with the surrounding snow, though the giant yellow X clearly marked the spot. Proton spun around before stopping in mid-air, ready to wait for orders and glaring at its opponent. It punched its fist together; its arms seemed to flex, but it was probably a trick of the sun against its clear body. Though, the Iron Body Pokémon was strong nonetheless.

I looked over Walrein once more and noticed how the snow at its base pushed into the ground. I looked back towards Dee and his Luxray and saw that they didn't sink into the snow as much as Walrein did. It must be pretty heavy. It probably used that as leverage for physical attacks. I need to take that advantage away from it somehow. Maybe an Earthquake would do the trick. But I couldn’t disrupt the natural order of the park that much. But maybe…

"Okay, now that the fragrance has washed over it, why don't you try using Psychic to lift it up high over the air? Then give it an Earthquake underneath its body where more vulnerable." Coordinating helped me again. This way Proton wouldn't tear up the mountain and still get its attack in.

Proton obeyed and raised its front arms out. His eyes started to glow a light lavender color, and an aura of the same color surrounded Walrein. The snow around Walrein parted; it shifted away like the snow was a wave of water. Walrein struggled, flailing around, as it was lifted high into the air against its will. Walrein twisted and turned as the other Walrein looked in awe. They seemed frightened from to sight, crying out from the sidelines.

Proton motioned its arms up and the Psychic threw Walrein high into the air. Walrein cried out as Proton flew to meet Walrein in the air. Proton tried to grab onto Walrein’s under belly and release tremors through its body, down into its silver arms. The aim of the attack was to quake Walrein’s weak spot, but did it hit?

(Wow, that was an excellent post, but you do realize that you don't have to try to reach your MCR in one post, right? At any rate, great post.)

    vs Walrein BP1

Jesse liked the idea of capturing a Walrein and immediately jumped into action. His first order of business was to release a Calming Fragrance Plus to calm down the Walrein. I thought it was pretty smart of him to do that because it would make it easier to capture the rare Pokémon.

After releasing the Fragrance into the air and contemplating which Pokémon to use, he released a Metagross named Proton. I watched as the big metallic Pokémon emerged from the small Pokeball that contained it.

The trainer went on to command his Pokémon to use Psychic to hold the Walrein in place. I watched in amazement as the Pokemon obeyed without question. Then, after making sure that the Pokémon was secure and had no chance of dodging the attack that was coming, Metagross grabbed the Pokémon and released shockwaves into it.
The Walrein yelped in pain as the attack did damage to it. It was knocked back towards its pack, who tried to help it.

Walrein didn’t want any help with this battle. He was the big walrus on campus. He would be the one to push these strangers away. He pushed back those who tried to help him and brushed off the pain that he had felt.

Walrein immediately started to bark towards the sky. All of other Pokémon surrounding it also started to bark. As the Pokémon barked, the sky started to get a little darker than it already was. Ice started to fall from the sky, bombarding everyone in the area.

Even though we tried our best to keep from getting hit by the hail, we couldn’t stop it. I had to simply take the hail. At least it wasn’t too big to hurt. I could only watch helplessly, however, as the hail falling from the sky continuously bombarded Metagross.

The Walrein in the background cheered as their leader battled. They seemed proud and envious at his strength.

Metagross plunged its Beldum-like arms into Walrein leader. The attack worked! The shockwaves intended for the earth instead resonated throughout Walrein’s body. The jiggling of the Pokémon’s thick body fat didn’t protect him from the massive Earthquake attack my Proton unleashed. The Walrein yelped out loud a deep cry as he was knocked back towards the ground. He tumbled around, digging up some snow that sprayed over the pack. The herd of Walrein rushed surprisingly fast for big Pokémon to their injured leader. They looked worried, and it seemed like they going trying to help.

Walrein shook his head no. He was in charge. And as leader, he needed to prove himself to the others; he needed to set an example. He nudged the pack away with his large tusks. The others avoided it, but they seemed to understand. They backed away and barked at me. It was obvious that there were threatening me behind their big strong hero.

Walrein glared at Proton and then at me. While he had a menacing gaze, he looked, not like a killer, but like a barbarian. The difference was that a killer had a set goal to end his enemies’ life, but a barbarian would beat into his foe until he knew his tribe was safe. Somehow, a barbarian seemed more civil and like someone I would like to keep around and protect my tribe.

Walrein dug his flippers into the snow, bracing itself. I knew it would use its weight as leverage. But then, it surprised me: It immediately started to howl towards the white clouds that were hovering high above. The white clouds soon turned grey and rumbled something fierce, echoing throughout the icy shore. It seemed to snow as little particles rained down upon the area. It was only when the precipitation got closer that I saw what it actually was.

“Ow…” was all I could say as hail berated my entire body. The trench coat took most of the blow but it was like getting pelted with baseball with, well a trench coat on. I could imagine the bruises starting to form.

Proton got hit a bit from the continuous hail. Its silver body seemed to brush the hail off after each hit. But the hits kept coming, and eventually it might just dent Proton’s steel body. Proton didn’t seem to mind though.

The other Walrein behind the strongest one cheered their leader on. In their minds, he was their savior from this “threat” on their natural habitat. All the Walrein seemed to brush off the hail with ease. We weren’t so lucky.

I knew Lopunny couldn’t handle the hail, so I took out his inverted colored Pokeball, also known as a Premier Ball. “Let’s get you out of the hail. Punpun ,return!” I saw the slight sadness in his eyes, but he needed to be ready when I needed him latter. A silhouette of my bunny Pokémon remained until the hail passed through the red glow.

Now, I just needed some cover for my ranger, his Luxray, and myself. If I only had an umbrella, I could think my strategy out without the constant hail to the face. I know. It was going to be risky if it didn’t work, due to the storm, but it was worth it if that meant surviving the harsh weather.

“From the trees you…” My coordinator skills needed to step aside. Man I need to focus. “Hercule, come out and shield us from the hail with a Psychic.”

My Exeggutor came out of his Pokeball all proud, standing tall; until he discovered the situation he was in. He looked at me with an “I can’t believe you did this to me” look. All of his heads’ shifty eyes looked at the situation and then centered on the battle. He started to stomp his way towards it when I put my arm out to say no. He protested and stomped around a bit. He was so stubborn. I remember when I first caught Hercule as an Exeggcute.

    (-)

It was a year ago when I was visiting my old friend and Taekwondo instructor, Kevin. He was also my butler for a time, but that’s another story in a different section of my life. He taught me how even those without physical strength can be great at fighting. He also thought me how to fight on par with his Hitmonchan, so that if I was ever in a situation where I needed to defend myself without any Pokémon, I could take down my opponents. Father wanted it for me, which is why Father sent me from my home in Hoenn to the dojo in Saffron City in Kanto.

Anyways he was having trouble with a Pokémon that would come into his dojo picking fights with all the kids. It was a wild Breloom, which would challenge the students to fights. It even carried an unused Pokeball, as if to say that if you beat me, you can catch me. One after one, the students would lose. Some of the students tried using Medicham’s psychic abilities, but Breloom would somehow resist it. Others used moves like Fire Punch and Blaze Kick to work against its Grass weakness, but it eventually wizened up to them, and they would keep missing.

Even after we lost to the Psychic facility for gym status, people still respected us, but now those people started to question the validity of the Dojo. Kevin wanted me to try using my special gifts to help. I had an eye for things that others didn’t. However, that didn’t help me defeat… well let’s just say I owed Kevin one, even if he didn’t think so.

I agreed to face this wayward Pokémon. So, I came face to face with the Breloom in question. However, I saw through the deceit right away. I saw the actual opponent; it was an Exeggcute bunch. I saw the aura around it, probably using Confusion or Hypnosis to make it appear as a Breloom. It was funny: the biggest pink egg was using psychic to keep the rest of the eggs up in the air: one egg for each limb, and one for the tail, while the biggest was the torso. When it fought, it actually “punched”; the main egg concentrating the Psychic attack on the egg that was pretending to be a fist.

And thanks to my Lopunny’s Foresight ability, he knew it too. We made quick work of the Exeggcute, since it was startled that we figured out its secret: a Psychic type that wanted to be a Fighting type. However, I caught it as a Breloom and let the dojo and the Exeggcute keep its dignity. I saw a connection between us: we both weren’t supposed to have fighting capabilities, but we didn’t care and worked around it. I had Kevin and Father to help me; now, I can help him.

When we left, I named him Hercule. He seemed to like it. For the first few months, I’d let him keep up his guise of a Breloom.

    (-)

He eventually grew out of fighting in disguise, but that didn’t stop him from learning a few new tricks, tricks that I helped him learn. Once he evolved though, he focused on his Psychic power, and that’s what we needed now.

“Egg-tor,” he complained in stereo, probably saying: “Come on, Jesse.”

But just like the boss Walrein, I needed to honor the fight. One on one. And Proton was still up and healthy.

“Hercule, not now. But if you really want to mess with Walrein, help negate this hail storm that he summoned by manipulating it into a canopy over us. Just us. I don’t want you helping Proton out.”

Hercule sighed three times, one for each head. But the thought of playing around with an enemy’s attack, even if it was just to protect me and Dee, made one of the heads grin. Hercule’s eyes shined purple as a similar color aura surrounded the hail coming towards me, Dee and his Luxray. Hercule motioned his body towards us, causing his Psychic to pack the hail together to make a make-shift canopy over our group. If the Walrein cheering squad wasn’t getting affected, why should ours. Proton can handle it.

Ok, now for the Walrein leader. Seeing how it reacted to the Earthquake combo, physical attacks would be best. Good, cause Metagross is great at that. It’ll expect another Psychic combo, so I need a different approach at least for now. Proton could ready an Iron Defense and then use a Zen Headbutt, but it’s no guarantee that it’ll come close. I could target, no, it would be cowardly to faint an attack directly against his pack. I wouldn’t want them to come at us. But still, Proton needs to get closer.

The howling of the storm snapped me out of my thought. If it wasn’t for the Psychic force field, I probably wouldn’t have the time to think with the hail hitting the side of my head. I had to think quickly still. In the middle of a battle, and I’ve wasted a lot of time. Wait, quickly…

“Proton, use Agility, get up really close to Walrein and use Zen Headbutt underneath his jaw,” I ordered loud into the roaring hail.

Proton heard me well enough. It seemed train its sights on only two things in battle really: its target and my commands. It was docile like that. Proton sped towards Walrein, almost phasing in and out of existence, even dodging some of the hail along the way. Proton fast approached Walrein and ended up right under Walrein’s nose. He concentrated all his power into the top of its dome. A purple hue gathered from his arms and coiled up until it created a purple helmet looking glow over its head. It flung itself up right into the bottom of Walrein’s head. Hopefully the attack would cause Walrein to flinch.

    vs Walrein BP2

In response to the incoming hail, Jesse recalled his Lopunny, who was out of its Pokeball, cheering the battle on. He then went on to use his Exeggutor to shield himself, my Pokémon, and me from the incoming hail. I thanked him and waited for his next attack; however, he seemed to be deep in thought. Maybe he’s thinking of all of the possible outcomes for his attacks, I thought. After a good ten minutes of deliberation, he finally issued a command.

“Use Agility to get up close and then use Zen Headbutt!” He commanded his Pokémon. Without any question, the Pokémon obeyed its trainer’s commands. Metagross moved up instantly to the Ice Break Pokémon and got up under its head. Then, it lunged forward with a Headbutt so powerful that Walrein was pushed further back towards his pack. The Pokémon in the background stared at their leader, waiting for him to get up. They started to bark when the Pokémon got up from the snow and got ready to battle again.

Walrein started to bark again. As it barked, it seemed to take in energy. Then, in a split second, it released a large stream of multicolored beams at Metagross. Upon contact, the attack froze Metagross, but broke immediately. Metagross was knocked back by the impact of the attack. Then, as if on cue, it was once again struck by the hail falling from the ground.

Proton’s purple dome covered head made contact with the Walrein leader’s jaw. Through the hailstorm roaring around the area, I could see the Walrein wince in pain as he flipped back, hitting into the failing ice pieces, though they just bounced off the Walrein’s body with ease. However, the earth shook a bit when the Walrein returned from his short flight to the snow covered ground, causing a small blanket of snow to brush over the pack. The Walrein shook off the snow in their faces and stared at their leader, who was lying still. The pack started to bark, some towards their leader, some towards Proton, who was still floating around in the air, and me. One of the Walrein looked ready to charge straight from me, its nostrils flaring and flipper stomping against the ground.

Before it got more than a few feet closer to the battlefield, though, the leader Walrein got up and put up his flipper as if telling the pack to calm down. Walrein looked back at me, and I could swear that I could see a smile underneath his big white whiskers and ivory tusks.

Walrein howled again, but instead of howling outward like he did to summon the hail storm, he seemed like he was howling inward. It was like how an opera singer sometimes has to sing inward to catch a breath in between phrases of their songs. Walrein’s whiskers flared back as a large stream of multicolored beams erupted from Walrein’s mouth. The blast reflected off the ice shards from the hail storm, reflecting the aurora into further prisms of light. The lights bounced around until the attack made contact with Metagross in the back.

Upon contact, Metagross was thrown forward a bit. From the point of impact, small ice shard started expanding around Proton. Proton started twisting around trying to remove it. The ice covered the back half of my Metagross’s body before instantly breaking. The breaking of the ice pushed Metagross back toward our side of the field.

I have to remember that combination Hail-Aurora Beam. Walrein might have not seen the combination’s contest capability, but I could make it great. I could see it now: I’d use a plain seal, as in the terrain seals, with a snow seal, and maybe I’d include a glitter seal. The snow covered plain would appear, and Walrein would burst underneath it, as if he was coming up underneath an iceberg. The glitter would mimic snow and ice exploding from the impact of Walrein’s mighty tusks on the “ice.” Even just the entrance would show Walrein’s incredible power. Then he’d call up a mighty wind of ice that would create a spiraling coil around Walrein. He’d then use aurora beam, which would be aimed at the very top of the twister. The blast would cause multicolored dust to reflect and refract against the icy wind and the entire stage.

Yes, yes, yes! I have to catch Walrein now! No question about it. He’s though; he’s courageous; he’s big; he’s bold; he’s a barbarian! He reminded me of someone I missed… Someone who was strong, who protected me…

My brother, Prose, was a strong trainer. He competed in many tournaments throughout the various different regions, winning seven conferences in three years. He was even asked to become one of the Elite Four of Hoenn after he defeated them, but he refused. Even though he was a strong trainer, he loved Pokémon research. He ended up becoming a researcher at Silph Co., where Father also worked. He worked on Pokeball technology, and he even created the code that imprints on Pokémon once they get captured; it is the one that makes it so that each Pokémon caught gains a special sort of aura that prevents them from being captured in another Pokeball-like device.

Anyways, about a year ago, he was reassigned to a research facility in the Orange Archipelago to work with Professor Ivy on Valencia Island. She found a mysterious half-golden Pokeball that couldn’t be opened or transferred by PC transmission. However, shortly after his ship passed the Sevii Islands, a huge storm came out of nowhere, but then it mysteriously stopped as quickly as it started. It was odd, though. Prose never made it to the Orange Islands. Professor Ivy called home wondering what happened to Prose. Father knew something was up and sent a team of people to look for him. They found his ship crashed upon a mysterious new island that no one had ever seen before. It was full of vegetation and a couple of crazy characters who had no idea how they had gotten there. After some interrogation, Father dismissed them; they seemed harmless enough. But, something was up.

I had only found out about the tragedy a week ago. I was traveling around Kanto when it happened. I remembered seeing the storm as I was waiting for… something at the dock. I didn’t think anything of it until I returned to home to Hoenn after competing in the Indigo League. I wanted to go straight away to find Prose, but Father showed me something that made me hesitate: they found Prose’s trench coat, and inside, there was an envelope addressed to me. He said that he was fine, but he needed to do some soul searching. He told me that one day, I would see him again, but only when he decided that I was ready to join him. I didn’t know what that meant, but that didn’t mean I would just sit around. After I was finished at the National Park, I was headed to New Island.

    (-)

As I was thinking about the future, a clump of icy snow pelted the top of my head, causing me to fall on my butt. But just like Prose protected me, his trench coat prevented my bare skin to rub against the harsh icy ground. I looked up and saw a small segment of the Psychic-lifted snow canopy was missing. I looked to Hercule, my Exeggutor. One of his heads was whistling and looking off into random directions. Another head looked at his feet, which were “innocently” kicking at the ground. The third head that was maintaining the canopy was grinning impishly.

“Hercule, next time you do that, I’ll send you out into the battle. And you know how you’d do against the ice attacks.” I threatened. I love my Pokémon, but Hercule was a bit too mischievous for his own good, and that was a sensitive subject I was dwelling on.

All three heads looked at me and looked sad. This momentary lapse in concentration caused another segment of snow above me head to come falling towards my beret. I quickly dodged this one, and Hercule started to worry. The two on either side of the one that was supposed to be maintaining the Psychic yelled at the center one, which seemed to sweat as he tried to maintain the canopy.

“I’ll forgive that one,” I said with sincerity. I was calming down. I had to focus on the Present. I looked back towards the fight, but from the corner of my mouth, I said, “But next time, you’re in for Proton out in the cold weather. Don’t forget: Proton can use Psychic too.”

They eyes of the other two heads widened and they started channeling Psychic as well. Hail started packing onto the canopy even stronger than before. Three walls of ice formed behind us and on either side of us. I’m just glad that this hail storm was brewing; I don’t think Dee would like it if Exeggutor started driving up the natural landscape. Exeggutor even formed some ice chairs from the hail, which I gladly sat in and offered Dee.

I looked through the “fourth wall,” which made me chuckle a bit, and I saw that Proton still had a bit of speed left from the Agility from the last attack, though the Aurora beam did a bit to cancel out the full speed boost.

I looked back at Walrein and saw that he didn’t even look halfway done. His coat was still gleaming, and his whiskers were standing out proudly. I had to exploit some sort of weakness. If I remembered correctly, fighting type moves work well against ice types. Proton only knew one, but with the slight speed boost from Agility, I was confident that it would hit.

“Proton, use Hammer Arm! Keep driving him back.” I hoped that Walrein would expect a straight on move instead of a combination. I might catch it off guard by the fact that it is expecting a very fancy move.

Proton sped through the battlefield, dragging his arms through the slush and snow. Proton was smart: he used the friction of his metal body against the ice to create a small heat pocket that it would release during the attack. Proton’s front forearms shone a bright white that radiated with a seemingly invisible mist. The only way I saw it was because I knew what to look for: the distortion of light that you usually see during a heat wave, the attack and the natural phenomenon. It was small, but maybe it would give a bit of edge. Proton swung its front arms towards the Walrein leader’s body. Proton twisted his fists at the last second, just like I taught it to do. Kevin always reminded me that a punch was more effective if you twisted at the last second. The momentum of the attack had power, but the twist caused the momentum to focus on the very end of the punch, right where it was needed. Now I just had to see if the attack would go through.

    vs. Walrein BP3

Jesse ordered his Metagross to use Hammer Arm. The Pokémon immediately started. It advanced towards the Walrein about as fast as a Metagross can go. As it moved, it dragged its arms against the ice to create heat from friction. Then, as it approached the Walrein, it bashed down on the Pokémon with its fist, twisting its fist at the last minute. I assumed that this was some sort of technique that would cause the attack to do more damage.

I found myself cheering as the Walrein, who somehow didn’t seem so mighty anymore, fell straight on his stomach. The snow around him splashed straight up from the impact of Walrein’s heavy body hitting the ground, then fell back down on Walrein’s motionless body. I started to feel sorry for the Walrein. He was overpowered by the huge Metagross that he was battling. The other Walrein in the pack watched helplessly as their leader was taking a beating; however, to try and save some face, the leader would not allow his subordinates to interfere in the battle.

The Pokémon weakly got up. He was about ready to give in, but he had to finish this battle. If he was a coward in this match, what would his pack think of him? He had to face this new enemy alone, for his pride and his pack.

Walrein had a stronger attack that he could use. The Pokémon got up and charged head on into the Metagross before him. He winced as his body hit the cold, metallic body of the Metagross, but it was a small price compared to the damage that he was inflicting on it. The big metallic Pokemon found some difficulty in recovering from the attack. In fact, it felt like its body was paralyzed from that attack. The other pack members cheered as their leader started to muster up some strength. This is why no one could beat him, they thought.

"Metagross's been paralyzed," I told Jesse. "It may not be able to attack, so be careful." It seemed like Walrein was about to get the upper hand, but I knew that this could easily be turned back around.

Proton cried out as its mighty metal arm made contact with Walrein’s blubbery body. The Walrus-looking Pokemon’s skin rippled from the impact like a ripple in an ocean. A anime-style shock wave erupted, causing some of the falling hail to burst into tiny particles, before being replaced by more failing hail, which struck Proton’s body.

I heard Dee cheering from behind me. I could see his Luxray smiling at the battle. Something occurred to me just then. I remember hearing stories from other trainers that went through the National Park. Sometimes, trainers couldn’t get around strong adversaries. Rangers would use their own Pokemon to help distract the wild Pokemon while the trainer and ranger would escape.

I heard one time that a ranger sent out his Gallade to fight a Kyrogue, the legendary Pokemon of the seas. As the ranger and trainer escaped the Kyrogue that seemed to be hostile, they saw the huge battle between the two Pokemon: psychic blades as tall as buildings slashing into typhoons; explosions of pure power.

I wondered how much action Dee’s Luxray got out here in the Park. I shuttered when I thought about what would have happened if we tried to leave. Would the leader engage Luxray as the pack chased us down? Would Dee distract the pack with Luxray, while we tried to escape? It seemed like Luxray noticed me staring, and turned back towards the fight. I’m sure it could hold its own; Dee seemed like a fierce battler.

Anyways, the Hammer Arm attack nailed Walrein in the forehead, smashing the Walrein leader hard onto the ground. A wave of snow splashed into the air from the impact and covered the Walrein’s body in a thin white coat of frozen water. Walrein was barely moving; did I over do it?

The other Walrein watched from the sidelines. I could tell that some of them were struggling to adhere to their leader’s wishes to fight alone. Proton was a very tough opponent, and a pack should rile up together to face such a treat. However, the Walrein leader has something else to prove. He had to prove that he could do it on his own.

Man, I could see it now: the Walrein leader fearlessly defending his family against intruders. Encounter after encounter, he would face the hardship of many different opponents. However, he finally met one that gave him trouble: a shiny Metagross. Blow by blow, he took a savage beating. The pack watching, wanting to help. But no! Walrein wouldn’t have it. He was the hero. He would rise up against the silver fiend and defend his home. He’d come back from a near death trashing and barrage his opponent move by move until he finally defeated the Metagross. The monster’s master and his friend would run away with their tails between their legs. Walrein would be carried back to their home and celebrated by all. His pride would be restored.

It was just too bad that this was my story. Metagross wouldn’t be the one to go down, Walrein would. But who’s to say that there wouldn’t be a happy ending to the way things go. Maybe on the trip back, I’ll write a story about him; people like the unexpected twists. Man this was still just the first encounter… I wonder what else is waiting for me on Mount Oktori…

Walrein struggled against the ground, but eventually he stood up, shook off the snow and cried out, “For my family, I will defeat you.”

The tone in his voice was terrifying, though if I were on his side, I’d be pumped. It was times like these that I’d wish I wasn’t a Babel, a person born with special powers. One of those powers was the abilities understand the Pokemon language. Scientifically speaking, my ears convert the frequency of which the Pokemon language resonates into the specific sound waves that translate into my brain as English words. So, it’s as if Pokemon are speaking English too me. Something I recently figured out is that it also works on other Human languages as well. The second of my abilities is the ability to scan, a sort of Foresight ability.

I closed my eyes, and I was able to “see” through the hail storm and read the different aura of those around. The sight had a red hue about it, and it allowed me to predict moves and gauge other’s abilities. However, in a battle like this, I didn’t like to do as much predicting, as just checking my opponent’s health. It was very useful, since for some strange and unknown reason, you can’t catch a Knocked Out Pokemon. My brother chalks it up to magical will of the Old Ones, to allow a fair fighting chance for all. I think that it’s lame.

Anyways, I scanned Walrein and saw that he was “Bloodied,” meaning that his health was 50% or lower. It was very though. But before I opened my eyes, I saw its next attack, one that Proton wouldn’t be able to dodge even if I told him to.

Walrein got up and charged towards my Metagross. He struck his head straight out and made contact. “X” marked the spot, and I could see a small crack form in the middle of Proton’s “X.” Walrein winced, for Metagross’s metallic body was very strong. Walrein jumped back, sliding a bit, like a car the just won a street race. Walrein was huffing and puffing; however, he left his mark.

Metagross stumbled back, clenching his eyes together. He was moving slower than he should be. Hammer Arm should have just negated the Agility boost, but this was different. The Body Slam attack from the Walrein leader must have caused some paralysis. I could see the shivers around Proton’s body, and that wouldn’t happen in even this weather. He definitely was paralyzed.

I heard the cheers of the Walrein pack as they saw that their leader got his second wind. I must say that I wasn’t angry; in fact, I think that I’m even a little more excited. Walrein was giving his all, and his pack saw that. This battle was far from decided.

Dee got up from his ice chair and told me, “Metagross's been paralyzed. It may not be able to attack, so be careful.”

“I know, but hey, at least this battle isn’t boring!” I responded as I rose to my feet. “Hey, Walrein! You’ve got a hard head, but let’s see how you respond to Proton’s hard head! Proton, use Take Down!”

My Metagross didn’t care that it was paralyzed; it would fight for me until the bitter end. I quickly scanned Proton to see how it was doing health-wise. It didn’t seem to worry about it, but I sure did. I closed my eyes once more and gauged that it was around 70% of its health. I also saw the surges of electrical energy that disrupted its chi, my foresight’s way of saying it was paralyzed.

Metagross bolted as fast as it could towards Walrein. It even tried spinning around to get more momentum. However, I could see that it would reach Walrein in time for the attack to be effected. If only Walrein was closer…

“Proton, quick, use Psychic! Force Walrein come straight towards you.”

Proton stopped spinning and concentrated hard. He kept moving forward, but he wasn’t going to need to go the whole way. I remembered this combination from a contest I participated in when I was in Kanto. My crush and once traveling buddy, Allison, was participating in the finals with her Medicham. I was using my Glaceon, Deveon. I thought I had the battle; it was similar to this: a hail storm brewing and my Glaceon caused Medicham’s legs to freeze a bit, slowing it down. Medicham tried using a Fire Punch, but Glaceon was too quick for it, especially because she had frozen over the stage into a sparkling sheet of slipperiness.

However, Allison was as smart as she was beautiful. As Medicham used his last Fire Punch, Allison ordered him to use Psychic to lift Glaceon closer to his fist. It proved very effective, as Glaceon helplessly floated in the air, rushing towards Medicham’s Fire Punch.

Just another reason to like that girl: her combination would help me now.

Proton’s eyes shone lavender, and a light purple aura surrounded its “X.” Walrein’s body shone a similar color as the field of psychic energy brushed away the snow that it was standing on. Walrein’s body was flung forward towards Proton’s steel-hard body, which was still ramming its way towards the Ice Break Pokemon. I knew that the attack would hurt Proton as well, but Proton could handle it.

    vs. Walrein BP4

Jesse did not seem fazed by Metagross’ paralysis. In fact, he found an effective solution to his Pokémon’s discomfort. In theory, the Pokémon would not have to move much if it used Psychic to bring the Walrein to it! I hadn’t even thought of that. It was a good idea; however, like most good ideas, it sounded good on paper (or in this case, in theory), but would it work out that way. I watched eagerly to see if things played out the way Jesse had hoped for them to play out.

Metagross slowly crept to the Pokémon while its body glowed purple. At the same time, Walrein started to helplessly float towards Proton. The Pokémon yelped and squirmed in vain to try and stop himself from moving. Then, a little while later, both Pokémon slammed right into each other. Walrein ended up taking the most damage since he was moving at a higher velocity than Proton was. Both Pokémon came to a sudden halt when they hit each other. Since Walrein was in mid-air, he slid down into the snow when Metagross let go of him. His body made an indentation in the snow where he landed. Metagross slowly backed back towards its trainer.

"What do you call that combo?" I asked Jesse, knowing that he was heavily influenced by contest battling.

Walrein thought frantically to himself. He hadn’t expected the Metagross to be able to adapt to the situation so fast. He went over what the most powerful and smartest attack would be to use next. He felt his body starting to give out. The second wind that he had gained had quickly been snatched away from him. He was running out of options. So far, attacks from up close hadn’t fared well for him. There had to be something he could do from a distance. He looked towards the sky. The hail was starting to subside. He knew of one attack that he could use. And then, there was always that attack. He made up his mind. There were two more options that he could use in this battle. If those two didn’t work, he didn’t know what to do.

The Pokémon started to bark towards the sky again, like he did before when he summoned a hail storm. Only this time, it was already hailing. This time, a fierce snowstorm came in. It bombarded Metagross, who winced in pain from the attack. Then, just as quickly as the snowstorm had come in, it went away.

“I really should have gotten a coat,” I thought to myself. I looked over at Walrein and saw that he started to bark again. This Pokémon was giving it all he had to take down Metagross. I admired its strength and perseverance and, for a minute there, wished I was the one battling it, but then I realized that I did not really need it, but rather, my client did.

“It’s going for another Blizzard attack!” I yelled at Jesse warning him. I really hadn’t expected two attacks in a row like this. Walrein was going to make Jesse work hard to catch him. “Do something before it can finish the attack!”

Walrein was flailing, tossing and turning trying to avoid being controlled. It was in vain, as he couldn’t resist the Psychic. Walrein was pulled towards Proton, and the scene almost reminded me of a baby trying to learn how to swim for the first time. Walrein was too good for that.

Proton saw it too and brought Walrein straight at itself. Proton was slow moving, but it was still tough. Walrein, on the other hand, was flying towards Proton at a high velocity, causing him to take massive amounts of damage. I think I could hear a crack coming from both Pokemon’s heads, but it could have been my imagination.

Proton let his Psychic grip subside, causing the mid-air Walrein to slide down into the snow. Walrein’s body created a mini crater of snow from the impact. Proton hovered backwards towards me, most likely to hear the next command more clearly.

Dee came up to me once again and put his hand on my shoulder. “What do you call that combo?” he asked me. He probably noticed from the way I call out my Pokemon and all the combinations that I was heavily influenced by contest battling.

I thought back to Allison and her Medicham. She called the move the “Come and Get Me: Fire Punch,” a phrase she often teased me with throughout our journey. I’m a little sad that I couldn’t take her with me to New Island, but I needed to find my brother Prose on my own. But, knowing Allison, she’d already be there waiting for me. That girl can be stubborn, just like everyone in her family. The Fuji’s weren’t known for there willingness to give up. I think Allison got that from her father’s side.

I finally decided on the name of the move: “Can’t Get Away: Take Down!” Hmm… it sounded better in my head. Can’t Get Away: Take Down… no… still needs some work.

From the other side of the battlefield, I could see Walrein’s head twisting around as he got home. He must have been very surprised that I figured out away to adapt to his strong paralyzing attack. He turned back towards the pack, who was still cheering loudly for him.

I could tell that he couldn’t let them down. He looked winded again. Just like in the newest Edition of Dungeons and Dragonites, you can only second wind once. But since Walrein was a leader, he wasn’t going to give up that easily. Metagross was a defender, so he could take whatever Walrein could dish out, though.

Walrein might not want to come close, as he has seen how well that works out, even when it’s not his fault that he gets close. He’d probably prepare another ranged attack.

Walrein looked to the sky. I followed his eyes to the hail clouds, which were starting to open up, revealing the sun behind it that was bursting to come out. If I was him, there was only one attack that I’d use at this moment.

Walrein looked back towards Proton. There was a smirk lingering underneath its tusks. Walrein took in a huge breath, contracting his stomach and expanding his lungs outwards like a frog about to croak. He released it out into the sky. It reminded me of a grander version of the bark that summoned the hail. That could only mean one thing: Blizzard was coming. I knew it, but Metagross wouldn’t have enough time to react from the “Psychic Take Down.” Eh… I guess that could work as a name for now.

The clouds that were still hailing darkened once more. They started to produce heavier clumps of ice and hail that howled like a thousand Walrein. I could imagine the spirits of the ancestors of this pack charging at Metagross from within the snowstorm. The wave of heavy ice and hail coiled towards Proton, who was trying its best to avoid the attack. It was no use, as the paralysis was kicking in. The ice shards and snow clumps bombarded Proton’s silver body. Clunk… Clunk… Each hit pushed the levitating Metagross closer to the ground until finally smashing it into the ground. I could imagine that Metagross was feeling the way Walrein felt every time Proton tossed him into the snow.

Then the snow storm subsided and the sun shown brightly once more, though a few of the hail pieces were finishing their descent. Metagross shook the snow off of itself. It planted each leg on the snow glacier and held its ground. Proton wasn’t done; even if it was, it wouldn’t think so.

I heard a sneeze from behind me. Dee looked like the cold finally got to him. He looked off into the battlefield, gazing straight at the Walrein leader. I looked towards Walrein as well and knew what was going through Dee’s mind. Walrein was a strong opponent; anyone would feel proud for just encountering it.

Just then, Walrein, who was sweating from the heat of the battle, started in inhale once more.

“It’s going for another Blizzard attack!” Dee yelled to me. “Do something before it can finish the attack!”

Man, this Walrein wasn’t playing around anymore. He was going to make me work hard before trying to catch it. But, what to do…? Proton wouldn’t be able to reach him in time to break his concentration and breath. He would still be able to howl if Proton just lifted Walrein up, and Proton wouldn’t be able to toss Walrein in time either. Proton might not be able to handle another fierce attack like that again.

I had it. Proton didn’t need to move. He could counter the attack. I just had to wait for the right timing.

I let Walrein release his bass solo far into the sky. New clouds appeared, but they weren’t as dark as the last ones. Crackling of thunder rang out through the ominous clouds. Walrein pushed forward as if to direct the incoming Blizzard straight for the “X” on my Metagross’s face. The winds blew towards Proton, carrying along with it javelin sized icicles and cannonballs made out of snow.

I grinned and gave out the command: “Proton! Psychic Iron Defense. We’re going for the “Manly Display of Brotherly Love” Combination 4! Use the incoming Blizzard as a thick layer of armor!”

I wondered what reaction Dee had, but I didn’t have time to look back, for this was only part one of the combination. I had to make sure Proton didn’t miss any pieces of the armor suit that he was constructing. It had to be 85 percent correct for it to work, especially if Proton couldn’t move well with just its levitating. I could imagine that Hercule was grinning, since he knew the attack well. Heck, the canopy was the first part of Combination 2.

Before my brother started to work for Silph Corporation last year, we competed in a few contests together. We came up with four combinations that stunned the crowds. This was one of them: the Armor of the Soul, also known as Combination 4. Metagross was very experienced is this combo. Prose would use a massive elemental attack directed towards Proton, Blizzard being one of them. Proton would then use Psychic to convert the attack into an elemental armor that he would then use for the second half of the attack. The move was very unconventional, though many coordinators tried to copy the attack, though, only me and my brother can pull stuff like this out.

The term “Manly Display of Brotherly Love” was his idea. It was the only time in his life that I remembered him coming up with a silly name like that, so I kept it. I keep a lot of my brother’s things. One day, I’ll be able to return some of them. But until then, I concentrated on the battle ahead.

Proton was doing well; it concentrated first on preventing the move from striking it. The hail halted in the air surrounded by a purple glow.

“Proton, 3 o’clock! A wave of shards is getting passed you. Close it up!” I yelled in support.

Proton concentrated hard; the purple glow sharpened, and it was able to stop most of the storm. I knew he couldn’t get it all, but this was good.

“Remember the order!” I reminded my Metagross.

One huge segment wrapped around Metagross’s body, except the face. The ice shimmered against Proton’s silvery body and the color of the Psychic keeping it all together. Spikes jutted out from the top of Proton’s head segment. Next, another segment surrounded Proton’s back legs, creating cylindrical protrusions similar to cannons or jet engines. It forced Proton’s back legs straight behind it, but they didn’t need to bend for the attack.

Next a remaining fourth of the halted Blizzard coiled around Proton’s front legs. The forearm was boosted with muscular-like spikes, and Proton’s front claws were effectively extended to three scythe-length icicles. Finally, the last piece was formed in the sky. Holes were pushed out and teeth-like piercing barbs decorated the front plate. The helmet hovered to complete the armor. Proton’s golden mustache was extended as well by the helmet. It looked like battle axes jutted out from each segment.

Proton looked like a fierce battle sculpture of Ice and Steel, reflecting the purple hue of the Psychic keeping the armor together. Needless to say, it was a very pretty and appealing combination. I had to say that even I was surprised. The armor was at 92 percent perfect level quality. Perfect being the way my brother and I did it together. Now, for the second part…

“Proton! “Manly Display of Brotherly Love: Armor of the Soul” complete. Now, “Manly Display of Brotherly Love: Rocket of a Thousand Deadly Hugs” go!” If Dee wasn’t laughing at my brother’s naming convention by now, he would be.

The cylindrical extensions coming out of the back of the armor started to roar loud. Proton was spinning his back arms and using the psychic to propel parts of the snow and ice backwards, creating a large blanket of snow to cover the surrounding snow mounds. The reaction caused Proton to shoot forward towards the Walrein leader like a bullet, though pieces of the armor were consumed. However, it was worth it; I don’t think Walrein would have ever seen or imagined a move like this being used against him, which is why I choose the move. Surprises cause opponents to react poorly and slowly.

Proton kept pushing forward with the help of the Psychic attack pushing the snow around him, which was the beauty of the attack. Proton only needed to move it arms a bit; the Psychic was what was moving it forward at this great speed. Psychic was such a well diverse move.

Proton raised its spiked arms as if to give a big hug or like it was about to pince. It essentially looked like a giant metal and ice lobster claw with a rocket attached to one end and with spikes jutting out of the other end. Proton was ready to pierce and slash whatever it grasped.

Nearly four seconds after it blasted towards Walrein, it was right there in the leader’s face, like a bullet punch. Proton attempted to grab Walrein in the quick clenching move and bash into its head with the spiked helmet. Essentially, Walrein was about to be hit with thousands of spikes. Even though it was made out of ice, the sheer force surrounded the ice by the Psychic attack would be able to convert the type damage.

The one drawback to this move is that Proton still took some damage from wearing the armor.

(OOC: If I want to attempt to catch a Pokemon, do i have to meet the MCR by the end of the post that meets the requirement, or do i have to wait until the MCR is met and then create another new post to try to catch it)

    vs. Walrein BP5

(Whichever suits you best. Also, this post may be the hardest to counter. Sorry, but I've got test ya. )

The blizzard was coming down hard. The wind howled as heavy snowfall came down from the sky. The snow only seemed to target Metagross; however, what was really strange was what happened next.

“Proton! Psychic Iron Defense. We’re going for the “Manly Display of Brotherly Love” Combination 4! Use the incoming Blizzard as a thick layer of armor!” Jesse yelled at Metagross.

Manly love of what? I thought to myself. Man, I thought my attack names were silly.

Metagross seemed to understand what Jesse was talking about. Its body started to glow. It was using Psychic. The snow was pulled from the air and used to create armor against Metagross’s body. As more snow was compacted together, it started to harden into segments of ice that created the armor of a superhero right out of a Saturday morning cartoon.

Proton! “Manly Display of Brotherly Love: Armor of the Soul” complete. Now, “Manly Display of Brotherly Love: Rocket of a Thousand Deadly Hugs” go!” Jesse yelled next.

Oy vey, I thought to myself as I slammed my palm against my face.

However, as bad as the naming for the attacks were, they were pretty good ideas. I thought that I may have to use that. I pictured my Umbreon covered in ice.

Metagross used the ice from behind to propel itself forward. Within a few seconds, it was right in front of the Walrein leader. It picked the Pokémon up and slammed his head into the spikes on its armor. Luckily, none of the spikes pierced the Walrein. Metagross then tossed Walrein back into the snow. The Pokémon landed with a plump! sound as all of his fat cushioned the fall. Metagross returned to his trainer to await further orders.

Walrein struggled to get up from the ground. After a couple of minutes of struggling, he was finally back on his feet. His pack was now quiet. They could sense that their leader was on his last leg; however, Walrein wasn’t going to give up. The Pokémon still had one more attack left in his arsenal. This final attack was a last resort of sorts.

Walrein started to bark once more. Only this time, the sky grew lighter. The hail and snow stopped falling. The Pokémon in the pack frantically scurried around. Some sought cover, while some tried to get away as far from the battle as possible.

I sense something bad was about to happen. As if to confirm my fears, Walrein started to glow blue. I knew what was going on, but I didn’t know the Pokémon would resort to this. I quickly recalled my Luxray and yelled at Jesse.

“It’s about to use Sheer Cold!”

I knew that this attack was enough to knock out a Pokémon in one hit. We had learned about his attack at the Ranger Academy. I never knew I would face this attack. This was the most devastating Ice-type attack known in existence. It would instantly freeze every Pokémon caught within a certain radius. After the Pokémon thawed out, it would be knocked out. Ice-types only used this attack as a last resort, when all other possible attacks had been exhausted. I only hoped that Jesse would be able to somehow counter the attack.

Proton snatched up the Walrein leader, the ice shards slashing across the leader’s thick body fat. Proton leaned its armor covered body and smashed its helmet into Walrein’s head. From all this head bashing, I’d have a headache. None of the spikes were able to pierce Walrein’s body, though the slashing that it cause did enough damage. Proton swung around and tossed Walrein back into the snow covered field. Walrein was making many snow waves in the field. I looked across the battlefield, and I could see exactly where each attack occurred and the progression of the battle, despite the hail. Proton swiftly propelled itself back toward me as the last of the armor fell of, piercing the field with small ice pillars along the way.

Walrein was struggling to get back up from the ground, something that it seemed to do a lot during this battle. He turned back to look at his pack. The herd of Walrein were quiet, looking sad as they sensed that their leader was on his last leg. The leader Walrein had enough. He had been taken by surprised almost every step of the way. It pained him to admit it, but Walrein knew that he would get even stronger with this strange kid with the white trench coat and white beret, and that made him angrier. He wasn’t going to give up. If he was going down, he was going to prove to his pack that he is as powerful as they remember, as they will remember him. Walrein had one ace up his blubbery sleeve, though it was only supposed to be used as a last resort. This situation clearly fit the definition.

Walrein’s eyes gleamed with anger, shining across the battle field to my eye. I shivered just thinking of what it was going to do. Walrein inhaled greater than any time before, expanding almost twice its size. Walrein bellowed into the sky once more, but the cloud didn’t darken like it had for Hail and Blizzard. No, the cloud almost purified as they swirled around like a hurricane. The hailstorm silenced itself unnaturally. The pack started barking in panic. There is only one move that was so devastating that all the Walrein needed to vacate the premises. Walrein started to shine: a light sky blue glow outlined his body.

I heard Dee recalling his Luxray; years of living with a Pokeball researcher conditioned my ears. Dee did so very quickly, like he was worried about something.

“It’s about to use Sheer Cold!” Dee yelled at me.

Shoot… Truly a last resort move, Sheer Cold was a move that made Blizzard seem like a snowball. It was the strongest and deadliest known Ice-type attack. The clouds transferred their icy temperature towards their user, who would create a burst of the energy that would instantly freeze every Pokemon caught within its radius. Once the Pokemon thawed out, the sheer cold that the move is known for would instantly knock out. However, if a human was caught in the radius…

Bridget was a friend I met early on in my journey. She was a traveling gym leader in Sinnoh. And no, I don’t mean she left her gym to start traveling; Bridget would travel by foot across Sinnoh looking for trainers to battle. She was sanctioned the first ever one-person moving gym license ever, though she’d had to record all her battle and send them into the league, as there was no judge, though she always played fair.

She used “cute” Pokemon: Kirlia, Glaceon, Teddiursa, etc. Anyways, we traveled together after I won her badge; her league connections helped me out in the beginning. Anyways, one day while we ran into an Articuno that was being attacked by an evil organization called Team Rocket. They were using some technological trap to hurt the Legendary Bird. Bridget hated it when people broke the league codes, and the natural code of decency. However, that got her just too close to be caught in Articuno’s Sheer Cold attack. Articuno was furious and on its last legs as well, and Bridget was almost able to get close enough to save its innocence; Bridget thought that Articuno would try to kill the Team Rocket grunts. However, they were able to get out of the way, but Bridget… I wasn’t able to save her.

    (-)

I can’t do anything about the past, but I can help those here. The Walrein pack wasn’t getting out of the way fast enough, and Dee and I were within the radius that I remembered from 3 years ago. I couldn’t spare another moment.

I turned back towards Hercule, my Exeggutor, and commanded, “Use Psychic, lift us back and up out of the radius, now!”

Exeggutor didn’t object, despite his mischievous nature. He knew that I wasn’t going to put up with any objections right now, and he could sense the impending force. The three walls made up of hail slid underneath us, essentially creating a hollow ball of ice. The lookout ball that Dee and I were in was now moving high above the ground. In front of us I looked down as I got a better view of the field. I needed to use my ability.

I closed my eyes and saw the many possible outcomes from the attack through my light red tinted Foresight. We were well above the height of where the attack would stop, so I told Hercule to maintain our location. Proton’s Psychic wasn’t strong enough to shield itself from the force of the temperature change. Proton’s Psychic would push him well out of the radius of the attack in time, but as I looked, I saw that there was no way the rest of the Walrein pack would be able to get out of the way in time. They started too close to their leader that they were cheering. Maybe if Proton uses the Psychic to try to contain the Sheer Cold around the leader; it might be able to freeze Walrein… No the Psychic wouldn’t hold and would still reach a few of the Walrein pack. There was only one option that would keep it both the pack and Proton safe from the leader’s frantic attack.

“Proton, muster up all your strength for a Psychic. Concentrate it around yourself and the pack in the distance, and propel everyone away from the radius!”

It was going to be a miracle if he’ll be able to save both sides. Proton concentrated as hard as he could, glowing lavender instead of purple. The difference between the colors was the difference between true Psychic power and a Half-Breed like Metagross and Exeggutor. Proton was tapping into the Psychic wellspring within itself.

I saw the pack lift carefully into the air, as if Proton wasn’t trying to scare them. The pack dangled in the air until they sped away far enough away from the attack. Even though they were Ice-Types, Sheer Cold would do massive damage. Proton let them go, and they huddled together in fear from their leader’s massive attack. They probably weren’t aware of how Proton helped them.

The swirling clouds of cold gas finally surrounded Walrein, who seemed lost in battle; unaware of the danger he put his pack in. He roared once more, and waves of light blue energy were released throughout the battlefield, though I knew the radius quite well, and it would easily pass into where the pack was.

“Quick, Proton, use Psychic to get out of the way!” I yelled in desperation.

Proton concentrated its Psychic attack on itself and quickly sped back toward our side and out of the radius of the attack. As the cold waves drew nearer, the snow on the ground shot up like pit spikes, due to the way the attack attracted anything cold nearby, or possibly a reflection of Walrein’s anger.

My eyes were still closed, and I saw something terrible. “Proton, double-time! Get out of there!”

But Proton wouldn’t hear me in time. Proton barely made it out of the radius, but by barely, I mean he got hit. His two back arms didn’t make it out of Sheer Cold’s radius. Proton screamed out in pain as the ice slowly crept up the claws to the silver forearms, where they stopped.

“No!!!” I couldn’t contain myself. I jumped out of the floating ball and tumbled into the soft snow. I didn’t care about this cold. I jumped up and didn’t even brush myself off before dashing towards Proton. The Sheer Cold attack was over, the clouds parted, and the waves of blue cold energy dispersed. And ran over made it over towards Proton, who was still conscious, thankfully. I took a closer look at the damage and saw that his hind arms were frozen solid. There was no way he’d be able to use it until I use a Full Heal Potion. No… My backpack was still up in the lookout ball with Dee.

“It’s alright, Jesse,” Proton said to me, “I can still fight.” My Metagross slowly hovered back up, wavering a bit.

“No, Proton. You have to rest.” I commanded.

“No Jesse, I have to fight.” Proton was a bit stubborn, but he’d never disobey me like this, unless he thought that he could win.

I turned back towards Walrein, who was finally returning from his raged induced Sheer Cold attack. He looked ashamed. He turned back to see his pack cowering in fear. Walrein let out a cry, “I’m sorry.”

I ran into the battlefield, my arms high in the air to show that I didn’t mean any harm. “Walrein! I know you didn’t mean to put your family in danger. It was just the heat of the battle.”

“You don’t understand.” Walrein didn’t know yet, but I understood.

“I understand, Walrein. I’ve hurt the ones I loved too when I was trying to save them.” I got a bit closer, trying to connect with the leader.

Walrein looked at me for the first time not as an enemy, but as a potential friend. “A Babel? Here?” Wow… Even in the National Park, the story of the Babel was well known.

“Yes, I am a Babel. I must say that I’m impressed by your skill on the battlefield. You stood your own against my Metagross.” As I said this, Metagross floated over, dragging its frozen arms behind it. “How would you like you join me in my journey?”

“But what about my family, I just can’t leave them here.” Walrein looked of towards his pack, which was cautiously walking towards us. It must surprise them that I was able to get so close to their leader without being head-butted.

“The National Park is safe from the outside world. I know you must have faced many danger here, but that’s nothing compared to what evil lies across the see. Here, everything is cared for and loved, thanks to the Park Rangers. But in the outside world, everyone isn’t as lucky. So, help me protect all of those that don’t have a family, who’s homes are taken away from them, who’s lives have been tested time and time again by the forces of evil.”

I reached into my belt and pulled out a Hyperball. I placed it in my palm and presented the ball respectfully as if presenting a sword to a king.

    “Will you join me?”

I tossed the Hyperball underhand-style into the air. The ball spun high eclisping the sun from my angle and started desending towards the Walrein leader's head. I waited to see whether he stood still and accepted my offer, or move to the right about a foot.

(OCC: This will be my attempt to catch it. Hopefully my extra character over the MCR will help)

    vs. Walrein BP6

Jesse had managed to counter the Sheer Cold attack, and even saved the Walrein pack. I was amazed at this trainer’s skills. And this is only the beginning of our journey, I thought. I watched as Jesse communicated with the Walrein. He seemed to be engaged in full conversation with the Pokémon.

After a few brief moments of conversing with the Walrein, Jesse tossed a Hyperball at the Pokémon. All Parkballs looked the same, no matter what quality they were. The only way you could tell the difference was by the small symbol inside of the ball. You could also tell by the size of the aura that was contained within the ball. Walrein didn’t move. He accepted Jesse’s request and stayed where he was. The camo-colored ball released a large red stream of light that engulfed the Walrein. A few seconds later, the aura released from the ball had dissipated and only the Hyperball remained.

The Hyperball swayed from side to side for a few seconds. Then, after what seemed like forever, the button on the side of the ball stopped glowing and the Pokeball made a deep echoing tone, signaling that the Pokémon had been successfully capture.

I walked over to the Pokeball and picked it up. The Walrein pack in the distance watched me, then their eyes moved to the Pokeball that I held in my hand. After a short while, they began to fight each other, probably over who would take over as the pack leader. Walrein politics, I thought, as I walked over to Jesse.

“Well, congratulations,” I said. “You’ve captured a Walrein!” I put the Pokeball into a special sack that was made specifically for carrying Pokeballs that trainers had captured a Pokémon in. Unfortunately, I couldn’t give Jesse his Pokémon yet. The Parkballs were unlike normal Pokeballs. To prevent poachers from capturing Pokémon and stealing them, all captures had to be approved by the warden. He would put the Pokémon into a special machine and manually inscribe the trainer’s ID into the Pokémon’s DNA. This way, the probability of a Pokémon being stolen was dramatically decreased.

I looked to the distance and saw that a new Walrein had emerged victorious. All of the other Walrein were slumped down in the snow, resting. They seemed to have already forgotten about the previous battle. Walrein were simple Pokémon after all. A small Spheal ran up to the new leader and they snuggled. It was probably the new leader’s child. I decided to let them be and continued leading Jesse through the park. Take good care of your family, I thought to myself as the Walrein group went into a nearby cave.
