    After I offered Kyle the Magikarp, he smiled and shook his head gently. I didn't expect anything else - Magikarp, and by extension, Gyarados, were quite common on the mainland - I hadn't yet met a single Trainer who had attempted to catch it. There was a legend about a Trainer who had managed to lose a fight against a Magikarp while using his Spiritomb, but not many believed it. I did - I had good reason to.

    We walked on, moving around a bend in the river, and finally the docks were revealed to us. One small rowboat, a two-seater, bobbed peacefully in the water next to the dock. I quickly walked over to it and checked the small waterproof datapad on the inside - it hadn't been used in just under a month, and there were no bookings on it. It was safe to borrow.

    "Hey, you can use this if you want," I called as I waved Kyle over. My eyes glanced over the water as I did so and I saw a red flicker beneath the surface. I couldn't suppress a smile.

    "Our little red friend is still around," I informed Kyle, raising my eyebrows.

    After a little bit of walking, we came upon the lake's docks. There wasn't much there, only a single, two seater rowboat without even any sort of shelter at the edge of the dock. Chainy dashed over, checking some sort of techy thing on the side of the boat. Apparently it was all right to take the boat out onto the lake, because my Ranger beckoned me over.

    "Hey, you can use this if you want," he called out.

    He then must've seen something, because he started smiling.

    "Our little red friend is still around," he said, pointing to the water.

    Sure enough, there was a little red-orange flash in the water below us, indicating that the Magikarp was still there. What could it want? I thought. Such a weak creature wouldn't want to battle, so maybe..? Of course! That's what it wants.

    "Chainy, do you have any fish food with you?" I asked. "Maybe, if we give it food, it'll go away."

    OOC: Lol, nice try.

    ~~~~~
    Kyle flicked the Magikarp a look, one that stated quite clearly that he didn't wish to battle the weak Water-type, let alone capture it.
    "Chainy, do you have any fish food with you?" he asked me. "Maybe, if we give it food, it'll go away."
    "Sorry, I don't have anything like that," I replied, smothering a grin. "All I have on me are these Poke Dolls at five hundred dollars a shot."
    I pulled one of them out of the pack on my lower back. It was the shape of a Clefairy, and the Magikarp started swimming around excitedly in circles when it saw what I was holding. It was easy to tell the little fish really wanted this doll. Besides, a little bit of cash was preferable to hurting the fish while scaring it off, right?
    "You interested in one?" I asked my Trainer, holding the doll out towards him.
    "Sorry, I don't have anything like that," he said, resisting a smile. "All I have on me are these Poke Dolls at five hundred dollars a shot."
    He pulled one out from his pack and showed it to me. It was small and pink, in the shape of a Clefairy. The Magikarp apparently wanted one because it started swimming in fanatic circles, trying to beg us into giving it one.
    "You interested in one?" my Ranger asked me, holding one out.
    I groaned. I really didn't want to fork over any cash, but attacking the pathetic little fish was out of the question. I rummaged through my pockets, pulling out knick-knacks and other odds and ends. I finally found my wallet and pulled out $500. I handed it over to Chainy and took the doll. I tossed it into the air, watching the Magikarp leap out, catch it and dive back into the water with a pink stuffed animal in its maw.
    "Well, Chainy," I said. "let's move on now."
    OOC: Sorry for bad post, late at night.
    ~~~~~

    Kyle groaned, but began to rummage around through his pockets and bags. He eventually came up with the $500 required and handed to me. I gave him the doll in exchange, and he tossed it into the air towards the fish. The Magikarp jumped into the air and grabbed the doll, its red scales flashing in the sunlight. It re-entered the water with a small splash and began swimming away incredibly fast.

    "Well, it looks like it really enjoyed that," I said to Kyle. "Now, if you want to head off onto this lake, you'd better return your Pokemon and send that Piplup on its way."

    I turned away and threw a Poke Ball into the air over the water. It burst open and the white plasma that flew out took the shape of a Swampert. Smash gurgled a happy greeting and began swimming happily in the laje. Despite being a Water type, he didn't get many chances to swim - I didn't like taking expeditions in the Great Lakes.

    "Well, it looks like it really enjoyed that," My Ranger said to me. "Now, if you want to head off onto this lake, you'd better return your Pokemon and send that Piplup on its way."

    I grudgingly returned Magmortar, then Raticate and then Gliscor into their Pokeballs. Gliscor would most likely be able to fly along with us, but he was tired and I didn't want to wear him out any more. I then turned to my Tyranitar, a Piplup still clinging to its back.

    The little blue penguin obviously liked my Tyranitar and being with our group. I couldn't think about what to do. The little guy seemed so happy, it almost broke my heart that I had to send him away. I thought about what I could do to give him something to remember us by. Then it hit me.

    I fished around in my backpack and pulled out a small sack. I reached into the sack and pulled out a shiny badge. It was the Boulder Badge, the badge given out by the Pewter City Gym. The badge that I gave out to trainers who defeated me in battle.

    I lifted the Piplup off of my Tyranitar's shoulders and set it down on the ground. I then handed the badge to the penguin Pokemon.

    "Here you go, little guy," I said to it. "We have to go now, but you can have this."

    OOC: >.< I'm going to give you that, this ONE time, because your quality is fairly high.

    ~~~~~
    Kyle returned all his Pokemon to their balls, except for Tyranitar. He walked over and picked up the Piplup gently, placing it on the ground. The Piplup looked up at the human, confused.
    "Here you go, little guy. We have to go now, but you can have this," he said to the penguin Pokemon, handing it a small object. I only glimpsed it for a second, but I recognised it as a Boulder Badge - I knew Jathan had beaten the Pewter Gym at some point in time because he had shown me an identical badge.
    The Piplup took a look at the somewhat-spherical badge, and squeaked in happiness before toddling off, probably to show its friends or something.
    "Heh, I hope that badge isn't left lying around and another Trainer picks it up," I said to Kyle, grinning.
    He got into the boat after returning Tyranitar and pushed it off, using the motor to drive out onto the lake. They were advanced models that worked more like fins on a fish than propellers on a helicopter. The blades were fluid and moved back and forth - almost no Pokemon were injured by it. And they'd all learned to keep away from the boats anyway.
    I followed on Smash, and we ventured out onto the lake. It wasn't five minutes until we saw a Pokemon. An ancient Relicanth was bobbing on the surface of the water, barely moving. I thought it was the tiniest island ever until we got closer.
    "So, wanna battle a Relicanth?" I asked Kyle.
    ((Lol, sorry...))
    After handing the badge to the Piplup, who happily toddled off to show its friends, I returned my Tyranitar and climbed into the boat. It was a strange boat. It had a strange motor that looked almost like a horizontal helicopter on each side. While my Ranger primed the engine, he turned to me.
    "Heh, I hope that badge isn't left lying around and another Trainer picks it up," he said, grinning.
    I grinned back. That would be funny. Suddenly I'd have someone with my badge who hadn't beaten the Gym. It could pose a problem, but the Piplup would probably treasure it; bird Pokemon like shiny things, after all.
    After the engine started, we motored out onto the lake, following Chainy's Swampert through the water.Before long, we slowed down to a stop. Knowing that he must have seen a Pokemon, I looked around. All I could see was a very small island of rock, which might be a piece of discolored coral or something. I shrugged and glanced at him quizzically.
    "So, wanna battle a Relicanth?" Chainy asked me, pointing at the rock.
    I stared hard at it, knowing that it was a Relicanth and finally saw it. There was a head with noticeable eyes. Its head and a fin were protruding above the waterline. It looked exactly like a rock, which was probably how its species was able to survive for thousands of years.
    "Sure!" I said, pulling out a Pokeball. "Go, Raticate!"
    My Raticate appeared in a flash from the Pokeball, landing on the boat. Luckily, the boat was sturdy enough to take the impact and big enough to hold the Pokemon for a few minutes. I made a mental note to congratulate whoever designed the boats.
    "Raticate, see if you can hit that Relicanth hard with a Super Fang attack!"
    My knowledge of Pokemon really helped here. For one, I knew that Relicanth can be dangerous, but like to sit in a single spot. The other was a fact that is unknown to most people. Raticate can swim, even though they can't ferry people across bodies of water with Surf. The often enjoy swimming, as well.
    My Raticate, obeying both the order and the opportunity to swim, leapt into the water, splashing us. It then swiftly swam toward the Relicanth, ready to gnash the foe's rocky hide with its teeth.
    ~~~~~

    "Sure!" Kyle replied. "Go, Raticate!"

    A bloom of white light exploded from the boat, which then began to rock from side to side. The boats were stable and strong, but they couldn't take much weight - due to their aerodynamic and green design, they were only rated to carry a hundred kilograms. The combined weight of Kyle and Raticate would be putting it close to its straining point, but it would still be able to hold them. Luckily, Kyle didn't intend on keeping the rat Pokemon with him.

    "Raticate, see if you can hit that Relicanth hard with a Super Fang attack!" he cried.

    Raticate nodded and began to swim out to the motionless Relicanth. I took a good look at it - it appeared to be sleeping. Either that, or simply not moving. For whatever reason it was motionless, it stayed that way as the Raticate approached. The Normal-typed Pokemon took hold of the Relicanth's craggy exterior, and finding a chink in the armour, drove its large front teeth into the weakness. The Relicanth jerked out of its motionless, and shook the Raticate free. The rat Pokemon flew into the air, landing in the water in front of the ancient Relicanth with a plopping sound.

    When it emerged on the water's surface, the Relicanth opened its mouth wide in front of Raticate. I thought it was going to bite it, but instead it opened its mouth even wider, making a low droning sound at the same time. I realised with a start that it was yawning. This Relicanth was a clever one - if the Raticate fell asleep now, it would be in serious danger.

    ((Male, please))

    Raticate approached the sleeping, rocky fish Pokemon and paddled within range. It then sank its sleek white front teeth into the creature's hide, gnashing and biting away as much health as it could. The Relicanth, in response, woke and thrashed about, flinging Raticate back into the lake water with a splash.

    Then, still staying immobile, it opened its mouth, seemingly about to bite down on the Raticate. Instead of chomping down on the swimming rodent, it opened its mouth wider and let out a huge yawn. It must have been still sleepy, because the yawn made Raticate, me and Chainy all yawn at the same time. Raticate, however, took the full brunt of the move. If I didn't do something, Raticate would be in a dangerous position.

    One of the common things that you aren't supposed to do is fall asleep in water. That puts you at risk for drowning. That would be really bad for Raticate. I then thought through with what I could do. Tyranitar were known to be able to surf across water, but mine hadn't learned that talent yet. Magmortar would be a bad choice. Not only was it unable to swim, the water would weaken its power. Plus, both of the foe Relicanth's types were super effective versus my calm fire type. That left Gliscor, who could fly above the water. Unfortunately, Gliscor was weakened in previous battles to less than half health. On top of that, Gliscor was weak to Relicanth's water type moves.

    It looked, to me, like this wasn't going to go well either way. Then, I had an idea.

    I quickly returned my Raticate to its Pokeball and sent my Gliscor out in its place. The FlyScorp Pokemon looked wearily at me as if to ask why I was calling on him when he needed a rest. Then, he saw the Relicanth. Knowing that I was collecting Rock types, he understood.

    As Gliscor was light enough to sit on the side of the boat to await orders, he did so, allowing me to pull the spray bottle labeled "Max Potion". I then sprayed it on Gliscor, who began to look much better almost immediately.

    "All right, Gliscor!" I said out loud, preparing the strategy. "Launch into the air and use earthquake on the water by slamming your tail into it to create a water shock wave."

    Knowing that this would cause a large wave of water to come crashing down on our small boat and possibly send it flying into the air, I turned to Chainy.

    "Brace yourself!" I said.

    As I said that, Gliscor leapt into the sky and began soaring above the Relicanth, enjoying its newfound energy. Then, spotting the foe, it began a tight spiral downwards, preparing to attack. If this went well, I could begin stage two of the plan. I fingered my Magmortar's Pokeball in anticipation as I watched my starter Pokemon plummet into battle.

    The attack would have the same force of

    Raticate paddled in circles, getting slower and slower, clearly being affected by the Yawn. Acting fast, Kyle held out a PokeBall in Raticate's direction. A red laser burst out of the sphere and made contact with the rat Pokemon, converting it into plasma and bringing the plasma back with it.

    Now that Raticate was safe, Kyle could work on what to do next. He released Gliscor from its ball onto the side of the boat. The boat rocked warningly again, but didn't capsize. Gliscor gave Kyle a tired look - he'd participated in two battles so far, and unlike Raticate he'd sustained some serious injuries. His head perked up when Kyle pulled out a Max Potion, and he stood up straighter and screeched happily when the spray bottle was all used up.

    "All right, Gliscor! Launch into the air and use Earthquake on the water by slamming your tail into it to create a water shock wave," Kyle ordered.

    Gliscor screeched once again and shot into the air, circling the Relicanth. The ancient Pokemon tried to follow it as it did so, but it couldn't move its head very well, so it gave up. Instead, it simply lay bobbing in the ocean, appearing to concentrate hard on something. I wasn't quite sure what it was doing, but at the same time I doubted it was simply waiting to be attacked.

    Suddenly, Gliscor jinked downwards, moving rapidly towards the waves.

    "Brace yourself!" Kyle called.

    I nodded, and patted Smash's neck warningly. He rumbled a response, telling me that he was ready. Smash had been my starter Pokemon, and I knew that there was very little that he couldn't deal with, especially in his native environment of the Great Lakes.

    Gliscor continued towards the water, and at the last second he smashed his tail into the water in the same way he would have on land to create an Earthquake. Instead of ground shaking and cracking, however, a large wave rose upwards and began moving towards the silently bobbing Relicanth. It crashed over the motionless Pokemon, temporarily submerging it. As the wave moved on and slowly shrank down, the Relicanth re-emerged. Strangely, it didn't look like it had taken much damage. I realised with a shock what it had been doing - it had been hardening its outer shell to prepare for whatever Gliscor could throw at it! It certainly was a smart Pokemon.

    As Gliscor flew back up into the sky, the Relicanth did the opposite. It raised up slightly before disappearing headfirst under the waves. I leaned out over the water slightly, activating the heat sensor on my visor. The Relicanth wasn't running away, but it sure was going deep. It was probably preparing to attack, but considering the wiliness of this particular individual, who knows what was coming next?

    Default Re: Individual RP: Gliscorman

    While I started shouting orders to my Gliscor, Chainy was preparing. His Swampert was ready and so was he. I had figured that the wave would splash over and around the boat and, as it turns out, I was mostly right.

    As soon as I had given the command, Gliscor lunged through the air, cutting our preparation time short. My starter Pokemon flew through the air, fast and furious. With the renewed energy from the potion, it dove towards the water's surface with a shriek. Oddly enough, the Relicanth hadn't moved a bit in the time that we were planning and executing the attack. Despite this, Gliscor slammed into the water with his tail, creating a wave of displaced water that rose several feet into the air. The wave moved away from Gliscor in a ripple-like manner, traveling in all directions. As the wave came into contact with and briefly submerged the opposing ancient Pokemon, it hit us as well. The boat stayed above the water's surface, which was good. If it had gone underwater, we would've lost everything important. My Ranger seemed to duck it or move out of the way, because he wasn't wet when the wave was finished and his Swampert seemed to enjoy the water splashing into his face. I, on the other hand, was slammed with the wave in the chest, sending me sprawling backwards in the boat. This annoyed me because it would take forever to dry, especially while on a lake.

    After the water settled, I could see that the Relicanth was still there, floating strongly. Gliscor was still flying above, looking for an opening to attack. When Chainy looked at it, however, he saw something different. I guess Rangers can identify how much damage a Pokemon took with an attack. A good skill to know.

    He pointed at the Relicanth, mentioning something about it using Harden a few times to reduce the damage it took. Then, interrupting him, the foe silently dove underwater.

    Chainy grumbled and flipped a visor over his eyes. Then, he looked down into the murky water. He then turned to me and mumbled something about the Relicanth hiding underwater, but not fleeing yet. That was good. If the Relicanth fled, I'd lose this wonderful opportunity to catch it. There was only one problem with this, though. Knowing the Relicanth's smart tactics, I couldn't place what it was going to do next and neither could my Ranger. this worried both of us. I began to think quickly about what could happen.

    Gliscor was flying high and would obviously have enough time to dodge the Dive attack, I thought. So, I could safely rule Gliscor out as a target. That left nothing... Except our boat. Then, it clicked. Relicanth was smart and would be attacking our boat, the source of the commands and hostile Pokemon. I had to do something and fast.

    "Gliscor!" I shouted urgently. "Charge up with a quick Swords Dance and then build up a Sky Attack! Aim for the Relicanth and attack it when it starts to surface!"

    Knowing how deep the Relicanth was diving, Gliscor would probably have enough time to pull off the combo attack. Considering that the Relicanth had boosted its own defenses, my Pokemon needed to compensate by raising his attack. Relicanth, as rock Pokemon, had high natural defenses, so it would still be a tough battle even with the attack boost. As Gliscor began to swing its claws and tail back and forth in a frantic and destructive manner, I held my breath and hoped that the plan would work and prevent us from taking a bath.

    "Gliscor!" Kyle called out to his Pokemon. "Charge up with a quick Swords Dance and then build up a Sky Attack! Aim for the Relicanth and attack it when it starts to surface!"

    Gliscor nodded and he began to fly in sharp circles and turns, flexing his stinger and flicking his wings. Blue energy - almost indistinguishable against the sky - drifted alongside him, following him perfectly as he danced in the sky. The mist resolved itself into the shape of three swords, and they too circled and spun as the Gliscor performed its aerial acrobatics.

    After a minute or so, the swords shrunk and Gliscor returned to gliding. As it did so a bright blue orb began glowing on the tip of its stinger, growing bigger and bigger as the Sky Attack charged. Suddenly, the Relicanth launched itself into the air, shooting high above the waves. A bubble of water surrounded the ancient Pokemon, flying up with it towards the Ground type. Gliscor panicked a little - his attack wasn't fully charged yet - but he decided to fire it anyway. He flicked his tail towards the Relicanth, and the blue ball spread out into a wide sheet-like beam that smashed into the Relicanth.

    The Relicanth slowed down a little bit, but it still managed to penetrate the attack and strike Gliscor. I just managed to see that there was a white glow around the Relicanth's head as it headbutted its flying opponent. Gliscor screeched, and together the two Pokemon began to fall towards the water. Gliscor recovered when he was a few metres above the waves, and he spread out his bat-like wings and glided back up into the air. The Relicanth wasn't so lucky - it fell into the water, creating a huge splash and sending water droplets towards Kyle and me.

    It rose to the surface and bobbed on the water as I wiped my face clear of water and Gliscor circled in the air, ready for its next attack order. Hopefully this battle wouldn't go on for too much longer - if Kyle made a mistake and Gliscor fell into the lake, there'd be almost nothing he could do.

    ((Done!))

    No sooner had the command left my mouth than Gliscor began to execute it. He swooped up high in the air and began to flex his stinger tail and strengthen his attacking abilities. As he began kept increasing his overall attack, glowing mystical swords appeared at his side, circling around him. The swords seemed to send him into an almost frantic spinning with the weapons circling around him at the same time. As the Swords Dance began wound to a close, Gliscor initiated the second part of the plan. As the glowing swords faded, a bright blue-white light appeared, surrounding his tail. It grew in both diameter and brightness, increasing until it was as bright as a mini-sun and nearly as deadly.

    But, the Relicanth had its own plans. With the sound of a professional diver sliding into a pool from the high dive, the opposing Relicanth leapt out of the water straight towards my Gliscor before it was ready to fire the ultimate Sky Attack. My starter Pokemon nearly panicked, but calmed down in time to fire the not-fully-charged Flying-type attack at the incoming Pokemon of stone and liquid. The ball at the end of Gliscor's tail expanded into a bright sheet of light, flying towards the Relicanth. By this time, the Relicanth was nearly on top of my Pokemon friend. Both of their attacks collided mid-air, dealing damage to both Pokemon. There was a flash of light as the true nature of the Relicanth's attack became apparent. The Dive attack was merely just to get close to Gliscor. The rest of the attack was an extremely powerful Head Smash. The Relicanth, despite the Sky Attack, managed to bash through and damage Gliscor with the powerful Rock-type attack, knocking it out of flight.

    Both Pokemon began to plummet to the lake water, gnashing teeth and barring fangs. It seemed that both would fall into the water and send a tidal wave up to sink our boat and my starter Pokemon. But, at the last second, Gliscor pulled free from the fall leaving Relicanth, as it had no wings, fell into the water with a huge splash that sent water spraying in all directions, hitting me and my Ranger, Chainy. I had read that falling from that hight was like hitting solid ground. It would have also hurt the ancient Pokemon.

    As Gliscor repositioned itself in the air, I looked over at Chainy. He looked nervous, as if something might happen to either us or Gliscor. Probably Gliscor, as it was the one locked in combat. I thought about it a little more and realized that he was right. If Gliscor made a wrong move at this stage, he would fall into the water. By the looks of it, the opposing Pokemon was severely injured. So injured, in fact, that it would be a good idea to try and catch it. Then, I had an idea.

    "Gliscor!" I called out. "You've done a great job! Now what I want you to do is Quickly Attack the Relicanth. Be sure not to faint!"

    I put extra emphasis on the word faint, hoping that he would know what I meant. Not faint but feint. A feint attack. The Quick Attack would be just a diversion. As Gliscor began to pick up speed and charge towards the bobbing Relicanth, I hoped that nothing would go wrong like it had when I met my Magnezone as its first evolution, Magnemite.

    It was in my homeland, many years ago. I was a young kid of about 11, starting off on my first journeys with my Pokemon friend, Gligar. Before long, I had caught a second Pokemon, my Magmortar, then a small Magby. It was then that we had our first major encounter with the underground, newly revived Team Galactic.

    I had been told that my friend Tanya was going to be exploring the cavernous Lake Hydrore, so I headed out to see it. Lake Hydrore was an underground lake at the center of maze-like tunnels that were left over from a mining operation. Some of the tunnels were formed naturally by the flowing of water through the limestone rocks, others were created by Pokemon like Drillbur and other Pokemon. However, most of it had been man-made. In fact, the entrance that I was going to be walking through was not naturally formed. It had been the major entrance that all the miners used back in the day when there was still valuable ore in the depths.

    Then, or so it is told, our town prospered and outshone its sister town, Threeshore City, in the east. Now, however, Waystone Town had fallen into disrepair, except for the few occupied houses and the Pokemon Center. Aside from those buildings, Waystone Town had indeed become a waystone for all those traveling to Threeshore in order to challenge the local Gym. It was a waystone, however, only to those who had not lived there. To those that had lived there, it would always be home. It was such a place for me.

    While it was my home, I hadn't yet explored all of the many places around it at that time. The beach to the west was a favorite of mine to play on, but the Lake Hydrore entrance to the north and Route 243 to the east remained a mystery. I had explored Route 243 a little then. I caught my Magby, rescued Professor Hickory and even battled my rival for the first time there. To me, that covered it pretty well. That left one place, to the north. The subterranean lake. I ventured out and was ready for whatever challenges would await me.

    After a brief subconscious battle against the nyctophobia that most children have, I plunged into the depths armed with a flashlight, my two Pokemon and the hope of finding a new partner Pokemon. Before long, I had emerged into the main cavern. The one with the Lake that they had named the entire place after. It was a sight to behold.

    The tunnel emerged into a large cavernous room, about 100 yards on each side. There was also an enormous lake in the middle that spread across the length of the cave; one that looked almost exactly like you'd expect it to with stalagmites jutting out of the water at irregular intervals. There was one thing amiss about the serene landscape though; a full-scale Pokemon battle was being waged on the far side of the lake.

    On one side of the conflict was Tanya, which surprised me as she is not a big battler as she tends to coordinate her Pokemon in the ways of the Pokeathlon, giving urgent-sounding commands to her Bulbasaur and on the other was a mysterious fellow that stood tall and proud in such a way that suggested that he thought he owned the world. He was calmly issuing a Houndour orders to clobber Tanya's starter Pokemon with a quick and fiery variant of Bite.

    From across the water, I could tell at a glance who was winning, and I didn't like it. The mysterious figure was in the process of gloating as his opponent's Bulbasaur went down and was knocked out.

    Then, Tanya threw out her last Pokeball and a large, round and blue Pokemon appeared in a shower of sparks. I then consulted my Pokedex for information about the large, blue ball-like Pokemon. It replied in a monotone:

    "Wailmer, the Ball Whale Pokemon. Through it's nostrils, it spouts out water that it stores there to defend itself. It is a playful Pokemon that enjoys startling people."

    It appeared to be a Water-type, which would give it an advantage over the Houndour's fire type. However, things still weren't going well for Tanya. The foe's Houndour was very swift and managed to dodge the Wailmer's rapid pulses of water and responded by launching several pulses made of intense darkness. Wailmer's apparent lack of speed hindered it's ability to dodge the onslaught of shadows. As it went down, the mysterious opponent recalled his Pokemon to it's Pokeball and ran down a tunnel away from the scene of the battle.

    Tanya calmed her knocked out Pokemon, then noticed me. She sent her fainted Wailmer over to surf me to the other side of the lake. While it seemed a little weird, I was glad that fainted Pokemon still had the energy to use HMs like Surf. I leapt onto the Ball Whale Pokemon, then it turned and began to ferry me across the subterranean lake to its controller.

    After I landed on the far side of the shore and dismounted the Wailmer, I began to talk with Tanya.

    "He was in here, looking around suspiciously and when I approached," she told me. "he tried to recruit me for Team Galactic!"

    "What!?" I said, surprised. "those people won't stop for anything. I wonder what they're doing down here."

    "I thought the same thing," she replied, "I asked and he wouldn't tell me. Then, he asked me to join Team Galactic. I said no and he challenged me. I managed to knock out his first Pokemon, but he beat me with Houndour."

    "I'm going after him!" I said as I started to sprint down the tunnel in pursuit.

    "Good luck!" she called back at me.

    As Gliscor spiraled towards the water and the bobbing Relicanth, I could only wonder what would happen. The Relicanth was growing stronger and stronger to the point where it might be impossible to catch it. I sat back down in the boat and hoped for a miracle. For something to happen that would make this capture possible.

    I caught Kyle giving me a sidelong look - he was probably worried about me being worried. It didn't make much sense when I thought about it, but it did when I didn't. Gliscor was high in the air, circling over the Relicanth, who was beginning to look very tired indeed. This battle probably wouldn't be lasting much longer.

    Kyle seemed to sense this too. "Gliscor, you've done a great job! Now what I want you to do is Quickly Attack the Relicanth. Be sure not to faint!"

    I noted that he was deliberately choosing a low-powered move so as to not cause the Relicanth to faint. He also stressed the last word a bit longer than needed, but I figured it was just a nervous tic brought on from stress and worry. I hitched my pants up a bit and watched as Gliscor began to dive down quickly towards the Relicanth. I could almost see streaks in the air behind him as flew towards the waves. At the last second before colliding with the water he jinked up, so he was flying parallel to the surface of the lake. The Flying-type reached the gently bobbing Relicanth in record time, and he brought his stinger whipping quickly across the fossil's back before retreating back up into the air.

    As Gliscor climbed, however, I heard a thundercrack. Black stormclouds began moving towards us impossibly fast, and I heard the chatter of incoming raindrops. The Relicanth had summoned a rainstorm!

    "Be careful, this will make Relicanth a lot stronger and faster," I cautioned Kyle. "You should think about attempting the capture very soon. On the flip side, a failure will probably mean you'll lose the ball."
