The substitute Infernape took form just as Rotom launched it's Confuse Ray attack. The ominous balls of darkness traveled in a swirly line towards the substitute Infernape, who simply absorbed the attack for Diddy.

Bingo! Now Diddy pretty much would get a free move. What to do with it...

My thoughts were cut short when Rotom began to charge up a Charge Beam attack. Charge Beam was a pretty weak electric attack that had a good chance of making the opponent's special attacking abilities stronger. After seeing the small amount of damage that Diddy had taken from Discharge, I assumed that the substitute Infernape would have no problem absorbing an even weaker attack, and possibly even avoid shattering. But how could I take advantage of this situation? Should I have Diddy give himself a nice stat boost? A strategy I commonly used in battles. Or should more tactically and attempt to destroy another appliance, or even finally try to get Rotom to ditch the fan.

I looked around the dark room that was being vaguely lit by Diddy's fire and Rotom's electrical energy. The remaining appliances were the oven, which would make Rotom part Fire-type, and the freezer, which would make Rotom part Ice-type. Neither was much of a threat to Infernape at all, but they were both huge threats to Kushy the Sceptile if I planned on bringing him into the battle. But then again, Kushy wouldn't even be able to come in if I didn't get Rotom to ditch this damn fan form.

I began to think of ways to make that happen, and two things came to mind: Roar and Stone Edge. Stone Edge was super-effective against Flying-types, and hopefully when Rotom saw the attack coming it would bail out of it's fan form to avoid the super-effective damage. But another option was Roar. If Diddy could produce a loud enough Roar, he could not only strike fear into the heart of the Rotom, but the main cause of Roar was making Pokemon forcefully pull out of battle. If Diddy could somehow make his Roar loud enough to produce enough sound waves and force from his breath that it would scare Rotom as well as forcefully remove him from the fan, Diddy would have a perfect opportunity to destroy the fan and take the lead in the battle. Destroying the fan would mean check mate, and the rest of the battle would just be getting it done.

Roar seemed like the more likely plan to work. But that wasn't saying much, as it was extremely unlikely to work out, but it was worth a shot. Worst case scenario, Rotom gets a free hit on the substitute Infernape and a stat rise. That wouldn't be the end of the world. Atleast he would be more tired than he was before the attack.

As Rotom continued to charge up it's attack, I decided it was time to call out my order.

"Alright Diddy, use Roar, as loud and scary as you can. But don't let him flee the battle!" I called out to the Fire-type.

Diddy puffed his chest out and tried to make himself appear bigger. His eyes narrowed as he began to put an extremely angry and intimidating look on his face. He began to snarl a bit before letting out a mighty roar. He flexed his muscles as he was yelling so hard that smoke began to leak from his mouth due to the flame sacs in his body. I had to cover my ears to avoid severe ear damage from the attack, as the high pitched tone of it pierced my ears.

    "Alright, Diddy, use Roar!"

…I figured the ability to dig in my pack to find and put on a pair of noise cancelling headphones in less than a second would be helpful at some point (aside from trying to block out a couple battles when I was trying to do my work)… Rotom didn't exactly have that luxury, lacking a pack, noise cancelling headphones, and ears to put them over (its whole body seemed to receive audio stimuli just fine... it seemed a Roar may cause some damage).

Ed was apparently still commanding as I finished, as Diddy hadn't done anything, but as soon as I looked, Infernape let out a huge shout sending a visible shockwave through the room. Rotom was hurled back into the wall, the fan snapping in two, but the ghost emerged just fine from the ruined appliance, if a bit dazed, and still had the electrical charge going. It quickly launched its energy at the Substitute, keeping some for itself, and dove into the boxes. Diddy's Substitute seemed to be just fine, as it was still existing, but with Rotom on the defensive, the Substitute might not get much use for a bit.

The deafening Roar boomed through the dark room. I noticed Siless swiftly put a pair of earplugs in his ears; I'm not sure how the hell he managed to do that so quick.

Just as I had hoped, between the sheer fear that overcame Rotom from the Roar, and the sound waves that were so powerful they were visible, it was enough to throw Rotom back into the wall behind him. As a result of the collision, the fan broke in half and Rotom had no choice but to escape the appliance or suffer permanent damage. Not only had Diddy and I managed to get Rotom free of the fan, but we also managed to destroy it all in the same move. That was certainly a win for us.

However, despite all the action, Rotom had managed to keep it's focus and was still charging up his Charge Beam attack. The attack shot swiftly at Diddy and the Substitute Infernape, with some of the electrical energy staying behind to power up Rotom. Diddy's Substitute intercepted the electric attack and took minimal damage from it. Just like that, Diddy and I had taken a huge lead in this battle, and were ready to take it home.

I was doubtful that Diddy would be able to battle Rotom one on one when the time came, so I still had to stick to my original plan of destroying the appliances. The freezer and the oven were the only appliances that remained intact and capable of being used by Rotom.

With Rotom clearly on the defensive, I knew it would starting thinking strategic. There was no way it would attempt to possess the freezer, as becoming part Ice-type would put it at a severe disadvantage against Diddy, being both Fire-type and Fighting-type. But, a good defensive move would be to possess the oven, making it part Fire-type and giving it a resistance against Diddy's Fire-type moves. I had to act quick and get Diddy to destroy the oven before Rotom could get to it, or else the huge advantage that I just had would slip away, and I'd once again be battling an uphill battle.

"Diddy, quick, use Brick Break on the oven!" I called out in a hurry.

Brick Break, a Fighting-type move, was capable of breaking Reflect barriers, Light Screen barriers, and of course, bricks. I wanted to avoid using a Fire-type move to destroy the oven, as ovens are obviously built to be heat-resistant. However, ovens are rather flimsy, and a powerful Brick Break would surely cause severe damage to it, and at the very least make it unusable. It wouldn't be incinerated like the washing machine and lawn mower had been, though. Destroying the oven could possibly mean checkmate for this battle.

Diddy quickly located the oven and leaped into action. No, literally, leaped into action. He jumped towards the air in an attempt to get to the oven as fast as possible, just in case Rotom tried to get to it as well. At the apex of his leap, he pulled his right hand up next to his head and positioned it like he was ready to perform a karate chop. It began to give off a faint white glow as he plummeted towards the ground right where the oven was located. As he was about to reach it, he reared his arm back all the way. Diddy clenched his teeth and snarled as his target was in arm's length, preparing to put all his weight and strength into the attack.

    BP#14 (Vs. Rotom Post 5)

Diddy hit the oven with the side of his hand, breaking it in two. Rotom… was still hidden. It didn't seem like it was going to counter. Its last choice for appliances was the fridge, and that wouldn't help Rotom in this situation at all unless it got daring enough to freeze the floor or something. And I had yet to see Rotom do… really, anything at all in its base form beyond releasing the charge from the fan blades. I expected Rotom to fight on the defensive from now on, since it lacked the power of the appliances.

Suddenly, the lights shot on, and plasma started jumping from light to light. Rotom wasn't yet attacking, but with a more direct connection to whatever power supply remained in the plant, any blows from its current position would be powerful. I couldn't say I expected Rotom to fight like this, but it seemed to know what itw as doing.

Diddy swung his arm down with all his might and chopped the oven, crushing it down the middle until the metal snapped and it was in two pieces. Now, Rotom's only option was the freezer.

I waited for Rotom to take advantage of the open opportunity, but I couldn't see him anywhere. Had the Roar attack caused him to flee? But then I realized that Rotom hadn't done much offensive action at all, save for Charge Beam and Discharge. Apparently, Rotom wanted to stay on the defensive.

Just as the thought crossed my mind, the lights all turned on. This was weird, as the power in the Power Plant was out. Rotom started jumping from light to light, similar as to what it did when we first entered the room. It had excellent positioning on Diddy and could end up causing major damage to any Pokemon I sent in.

I wasn't sure if Rotom was planning to fight this way for the rest of the battle, but even if he wasn't, I had to continue my plan of destroying his advantages.

"Diddy, use Flamethrower on all of the lights!" I called out.

Hopefully Flamethrower would be able to damage all of the light fixtures on the cieling, taking away another part of Rotom's home field advantage.

Diddy inhaled, gathering oxygen in his lungs to ignite a fire inside his body with help from his flame sacs. Once again, steam poured out of his mouth and nose as the fire grew inside him. He would need a lot of fire to cover the entire area of the ceiling. When his lungs reached max capacity, he let the red hot column of fire out, whipping his head back and forth to hit and destroy every light fixture.

Electricity surged in between each light fixture as Diddy struck each one with a powerful pillar of flame. Eventually, the room was dark once more, lit only by Diddy's natural light. Rotom emerged from a heavily damaged light fixture, dazed but not very much hurt. It quickly disappeared, with what seemed to be a plush Rotom sitting in its location. It didn't have the same image quality as Diddy's Substitute, almost seeming to be taunting it. The doll itself started pulsing with electricity; though it wouldn't have the same force as a bolt from the actual creature, it would still be annoying in a fight. And I doubted that Rotom would come out except for ambushes while the Substitute sat there.

OOC: Sorry about the wait. Also, I hope it's okay that I imagined how the attacks would happen. That was the best way I could think of to describe them.
    ___________

Diddy moved his Flamethrower attack all over the ceiling, attempting to hit and destroy each individual light fixture, but Rotom did a great job of avoiding damage and getting out of each fixture just before Diddy destroyed it. Eventually, each light fixture was severely damaged, and just as quickly as they had lit the room, it was back to the only light in the room coming from the fire in and on Diddy's body.

Rotom emerged from one of the damaged light fixtures, levitating wobbly. It regained it's composure when it made eye contact with Diddy and jetted into the dark, leaving behind a rather low-quality Substitute Rotom.

The Substitute Rotom began to pulse with electricity, similar to how Rotom does naturally. The Substitute Rotom would surely be annoying, but I did not expect it to be a large factor in this battle, as it wouldn't have as much strength as the already weakened Rotom.

Rotom was clearly still playing defense, and I had to end this battle quickly before it took a turn for the worse. It was time for me to get offensive, stop messing around and start hitting this Rotom hard. First thing first, I had to break that damn Substitute. But, maybe there was a way I could bypass the Substitute and damage Rotom directly... nah, I doubt it, seeing as how I would first have to find Rotom.

I began to think logically about the situation. Typically, Pokemon preferred to hide behind their Substitute, seeing as how the whole point of the move is to avoid direct and heavy damage. So, maybe I could use brute force to not only destroy this Substitute, but possibly break through it and attack Rotom directly as well.

It would take a powerful move for such a feat to be accomplished. What was Diddy's strongest move? Obviously, it was Overheat. However, after using Overheat, a Pokemon has trouble using other special attack moves for the rest of the battle. This wasn't a big factor though, as Diddy was perfectly capable of running a battle with physical moves. Not only that, but he could get his special attack stat back to normal by beefing it up with a Nasty Plot.

Overheat wasn't enough. I need something else to do damage, just incase Overheat wasn't enough to damage Rotom itself. What's a good move to follow up Overheat with?

    Flare Blitz.

Diddy would be able to use the fire energy left on him from the Overheat to get a jump start on charging Flare Blitz. The light from the Overheat will light up the entire room, exposing Rotom and allowing Diddy to directly attack him. It seemed like a perfect storm, I could only hope it would work.

"Diddy, listen up, use Overheat, fire it THROUGH the Substitute, not just AT the Substitute. Then spot Rotom and head at it full power with a Flare Blitz attack. You got this!" I called out to the Infernape.

Diddy nodded and began to attack, and I couldn't help but imagine what this would be like if it worked out perfect...

<Diddy held his chin up, inhaling oxygen just as he usually does with a Flamethrower or Fire Blast attack. But the charge up was much longer. Once the smoke began to pour from his mouth and nose, he kept charging. His whole body began to glow from the heat of the fire, and the temperature in the entire room instantly rose, and I couldn't help but break a sweat. I hate the heat... this is going to be a rough few minutes. Just as you began to wonder if he was about to explode from the amount of fire and energy building up inside of his body, he snapped his head forward with his jaw gaping. He let out a high pitch battle cry as a solid column of white hot fire burst from his mouth and traveled directly at the Substitute. The attack lit up the entire room as if the sun had just fell through the roof, revealing Rotom's hiding spot a few yards behind it's Substitute. The Substitute was no match for the immense fire attack, it completely incinerated the fake Rotom and continued to travel at full strength at Rotom, who was hit directly by the attack. Diddy cut off the attack and began to collect his breath and thoughts as the tail end of the column of fire made it's way to Rotom. Just as the fire faded away and the room became dark, Diddy began to clench his fists and contract his muscles, looking like Goku going into Super Sayan mode. The flame on his head grew to a few yards in height as a blue fire protruded from the rest of his body and encloaked him. He whipped his head around, making himself completely encased in blue and red flames, and launched off the ground, seemingly flying to exactly where Rotom was located, at full speed and full strength, showing no mercy for the Ghost-type.>

    BP#16 (Vs. Rotom Post 7)

Diddy flared up and released a powerful flame at the Rotom doll. The result; Rotom was forced out of the Substitute, and the Substitute itself fell to the ground as a pile of ash. Rotom didn't look hurt from it, but it still had the electricity…

Streams of electricity shot out from Rotom reaching out to the entire room. Once again, I grabbed Ed and brought him behind the pillar; Rotom was charged this time, and if it hit him, he'd be out cold. Or electrified. Either way, I wasn't willing to drag an unconscious Ed out of the Power Plant.

Diddy took the Discharge attack hard, and his Substitute was as gone as Rotom's was. Despite the pain, Diddy was able to cloak itself in a harsh flame and charge at the Ghost-type. The blow itself created a light so bright that I couldn't see through, but when it faded, Rotom and Diddy were on opposite sides of the field, both panting in exhaustion. The battle was ending, it seemed, but it could easily go either way; I would actually say Rotom had an advantage looking at pure statistics. It'd be interesting to see if Ed could use his training to his advantage.

Diddy launched his Overheat, completely incinerating the pathetic Substitute. While catching his breath, Rotom launched a Discharge attack, and Siless once again pulled me behind a pillar for protection again.

The Discharge struck Diddy's Substitute and shattered it, but left Diddy relatively unharmed. Diddy immediately followed up with a Flare Blitz, making direct contact with Rotom and creating a burst of light so bright that it temporarily blinded me. When the light faded, Infernape and Rotom were on opposite sides of the room, staring each other down. The battle was clearly coming to a close, and it was going to be a close one. I had to make this thing catchable, ASAP.

"Diddy, hit it with an Ember to distract it, then fire a Will-O-Wisp!"

Ember was a weak attack, and considering Diddy's special attack was severely lowered, the attack wouldn't do much power even at full power. Then hopefully, the inaccurate Will-O-Wisp would be able to hit with Rotom distracted by the annoying Ember attack.

Diddy inhaled weakly and ran towards Rotom as he snorted and let out a burst flames. Immediately after launching the Ember, he planted his feet and began to hold his hands out in front of him, strongly concentrating as a tiny blue ball of fire formed in his palms. It grew with every second that passed, until it was the size of a softball. Two more balls appeared on each side of it as Diddy made a pushing motion with his arms, launching the Will-O-Wisp attack directly at Rotom from point blank range. Hopefully, the attack would hit and burn Rotom and I would be able to capture it afterwards.

Diddy spit small, quick flames at the ghost-type. Some flames grazed the ghost, though most were just wide; Rotom however, had to spend time dodging the flames, and Diddy could make his way closer while pressing on with the quick, light attacks. Before Rotom knew what was happening, Diddy hit it with a powerful flash of flame at close range; though the flame did no damage itself, it had applied a burn to the ghost-type's body. Rotom was dangerously close to fainting, having one to two attacks tops with the burn, but it still wasn't done. A dark wind emanated from the ghost, hitting Diddy just as hard, though for actual damage.

Rotom seemed to rally as the wind hit, though it still didn't have much vitality left. The battle would certainly be over soon.

    ______

The Ember attack barely hit Rotom; the Ghost-type did a good job of dodging the moves, but the effort it put into doing so distracted it from the big attack: Will-O-Wisp.

Will-O-Wisp hit dead on, surrounding Rotom's body in a veil of fire and burning it. Rotom retaliated with an Ominous Wind attack, hurting Diddy pretty bad.

Both Pokemon were tired out. Diddy stood at one end of the room, on one knee with his head down and breathing hard. Rotom was on the other, finding himself dropping to the ground a couple times and having to recover. I knew the battle would be over after the very next turn, so I had to capture this Pokemon quickly.

I pulled a basic Parkball l out of my pocket and spun it around between my thumb and middle finger as it grew from the size of a beer pong ball to a baseball and tossed it side arm at the Ghost-type, immediately crossing my fingers when it left my hand.

Ed finished his capture, and I picked up and pocketed the ball. It was pretty obvious to me that he was pretty much happy with his run, and when I asked him, he confirmed that he wanted to leave. Now all there was left to do was help him with his claims and he could be on his way with his new Pokémon. And we had already cleared a path, so going back shouldn't be a problem...
