I personally think it's kind of sad to want to sell your Pokemon. After all, aren't these our friends and companions?

It's much kinder to gift them to a friend.

I'm very much against most ideas of selling owned Pokemon for this reason.

Selling and trading are the same thing. Yea, one you get money and the other you get a Pokemon, but in the end you getting what you want. I think auctioning would be better. Selling Pokemon in that garage sell thing is a rip and not worth it.

100% plausible imo more or less, but doesn't really fit with the "culture" of the URPG

EDIT: kind of what Harry said I guess.

The Head has spoken, and this time, he's on my side. Booyah x]

I can't imagine any scenario where selling a Pokemon to someone is more worth it than organising a trade. Example, using your price thing. Say someone writes for a Medium mon, and then decides that actually, it's not of much use to them. However, someone else wants that mon, and so offers the full 4k. Considering Medium is about 15k's worth of writing, which for some, can actually be quite a bit of effort, it seems silly that someone will want to sell it for a measly 4k, which doesn't buy a lot.

However, going onto the other hand, say they then say "No, I want a Bulbasaur with a BM for it" - that's 13k right there, roughly equal to the amount of characters. Who in their right mind is going to pay that when they could get it for 4k in the event? At the end of it, it turns into a "who's desperate enough to back down first?", by which time the event is over and it doesn't matter anyway.

I can't see the event fairly benefiting both parties involved, which is why I'm against it.

We already have trading, no need to add selling to the mixture. Plus, it's better to gift a Pokemon than to sell them. I think this goes against the idea of Pokemon and there would be abuse issues, it would have to be watched closely.

    Trading mons is ok.
Selling or trading already owned mons isn't. The only exception ever made in URPG history was when I gave up battling and gave away most of my non-grass/starter mons without getting anything in return. We can argue why others can't do the same, but I'm quite certain we'd all end up agreeing that you had to be active during that period to comprehend the motives behind it.

Selling and/or trading Pokemon for money or items is only allowed in rare cases, as in events. Inter-member or all-year-round situations are not allowed for the sole and simple reason that you never get useless mon. If you're scared your opponent will Whirlwind/Roar someone useless/type-disadvantaged, you shouldn't either play, get that many mons or be so stuck up on a game mechanic you'd happily abuse yourself. I rest my case

Iirc, modern rules are that when leaving, you can bypass what would be considered 'unfair' trades for 3 mons, effectively giving them away (but receiving, like, a 3 Caterpie in return)

Hehe, I know, what I meant was giving away all [> 3] mons.

Actually not really. When people are leaving and trade their stuff away, we're more relaxed about what constitutes a fair trade, but we don't abandon the concept entirely. For example, we won't let someone trade a Starmie with 20 EMs for a blank Pidgey under any circumstances. That's usually why people wait to leave until Gift Stations and just pass everything out then.

Anyway, to stay relevant to the topic, I don't really have anything against some kind of member-run and Mod-watched auction house, but the boss man says no, and the idea isn't needed enough to be fought for imo.

Well, you used to abandon the concept entirely. I got an Alakazam with >10 EMs for a blank Budew :3

inb4 invalidated and taken off me even though it clearly states in my stats 'traded for Budew' and was once approved

Guys I think the thing to take away from this is that selling your Pokemon would be... bad for a number of reasons.

-Most Pokemon are worth more than you'd end up selling them for
-Even if someone used Roar or Whirlwind or something and pulled out a crappy Pokemon, if you TM it it could probably be useful somehow
-In the URPG you earn money from battling and hard work (having a profession, writing for the Times, winning contests, etc.) Being able to write eight Magikarp stories and then sell them off is too easy for a lot of people. I could probably do that in a couple of hours and make waaaaay too much money for the amount of effort involved.
