    Default Artists for Art Captures

Ok, don't get me wrong, I like writing. But my passion is art, and so when HKim said this:

For example, the idea of an Art Capturing Method has been something we've considered, but never implemented. If enough people are interested in that project, and are willing to put their time into working on making is a viable URPG Section, then I don't see why we can't allow it.
I decided to find out for sure how many people support the idea of an art capturing method. So, what do you think?

Also, PE2K members: Feel free to make a sister topic on PE2K if one doesn't already exist.

I presume this would be akin to drawing a manga involving the capture (thus requiring a certain number of panels, etc).

I'm not a good artist or too much into art, but this still is a good idea and I'll surely try it when/if it comes out.

This was brought up before on Pe2k, but I can't find the thread. -_-

Anyway, no, I can come out with the same old reasons again. First, URPG just got implemented into BMGf and something entirely new might give URPG an overload instead of helping. Second, we have enough capture methods as of the moment.

But the true reason at hand is that it'd be very hard, or near impossible, to "grade" a piece of drawing for a yes or no capture. Put it in another way, easily abused and there isn't a clear line between a successful and a not successful capture.

I say no. Setting standards for drawing would be... difficult. Writing is easy to judge along a basic "quality" line; art, however, involves a thorough knowledge of shading, lines, motion, et cetera. Honestly, evaluating art is something that takes a lot more talent than evaluating writing, simply because a higher degree of observation is necessary. To get enough competent hands involved in the "grading" process would not be possible.

Also, crap artists like me could easily take advantage of the situation to grab Simple Mons. Crap art takes half the time as crap writing.

While this sounds like it would be an interesting idea, especially for those that are better are drawing a scenario than writing one, I don't think it would be able to be implemented well. Like Ataro and Nemo said, URPG is still getting settled here at BMGf and a big change or addition would not be the best thing. Not to mention it is harder to find out if an image is actually the property of the artists or not than it is to find out if the written word is the writers original work. You can search online for exact matches to text, not so much with images.

Also, unless we have some art professors here whose job it is to analyze works of art in extreme detail then there is really no good way to decide if it is a successful capture. What one person might find to be an awesome work of art, someone else might be able to find hundreds of problems with. Not to mention it would make those that are better at art have an advantage to those that are not so good. For the most part the writing section seems to be set up to not have such an advantage for great writers since you can work on lower difficulty pokemon and improve your writing and then move on up the ladder so to speak.

Then of course there is the biggest reason I would say I'm not personally for it. This is an rp. You come here to role play. While yes it can be fun and more enjoyable to have images of your pokemon and your trainer and such, images are not the main point of an rp and really should serve no purpose other than to help people understand what something in the rp looks like. An image should certainly not be used to gain ground in the rp.

I was just gonna vote no, but it says please say why soo...
I agree it'd just be too hard to grade. Too much of it would be about opinion, where with writing it's easier to distinguish poor grammar and a generic plot etc.

Ok, I understand how everyone feels. I'll start working on a way it COULD work, and if I come up with anything, the URPG will likely have calmed down enough to allow something new. Although, there is also a big chance I won't be able to come up with anything.

After a while, when we've cooled down, I'd say the staff should take a good look at this and see if they can figure out a way to make it work, and if they can't, chuck it. For now, though, my reasons have all been stated already.

I have basically the same opinion as those before me who said no. The grading aspect is just too difficult. With writing you can at least set up certain guidelines that will be used as the grading criteria. In this, it is strictly opinion based and would be impossible to really give a concrete yes or no. Also, writing is something that you can drastically improve in by just being given suggestions, art is a whole different ball game. With Art you can improve, but not easily.

i'd say no, as we have more than enough ways to get pokemon as it is, and there's really no way to judge art

Then let's approach this in a slightly different angle; instead of having people go for whatever they want by art, how about weekly, monthly, etc. contests? Say one Pokemon is picked, everyone who wants to can submit art for it, and whoever is critically acclaimed to be the best succeeds at the capture?

Maybe put a limitation they can't win more than one month in a row, or can't enter for 2 months after they win, or something along those lines, to ensure one crazy talented person doesn't wind up dominating things.

I also back this. Easier to judge (Just make a panel of URPG officials, and rely on their personal opinions), While also preventing abuse by churning out a couple hundred good drawings and getting everything that could be possibly useful.

I voted yes, but then I thought. I agree, it would be too hard to evaluate, along with the whole "Plenty ways to get it otherwise" and "Still settling". I would totally change my vote if I could.
