We Are Against:
- Limiting new URPGers to an event before letting them use the Park normally
They should get an event or something to help them get introduced, imo. An event like the Capture Contest one would be cool, or where they have to try and catch the lightest Pokemon and whoever has lightest wins would be good. I just said lightest cause most of them are basics which are the easiest to catch Pokes generally
I don't think we should run the Capture Contest so close to it already having been run -- better for such a high-level competition to wait until people are more familiar with the Park. I think that the Park could be promoted through an event, but I think one of the best ways -- at least, it was successful with the start of URPG on BMG -- to make people invest more in the Park is to give a discount for a certain amount of time as people begin to join URPG on TPW.
Maybe team runs could be emphasised rather than individual runs on TPW, to give the new members some more fun and the opportunity to interact with their friends in the Main RP section, which has never really been played upon so far in the Park. Plus, it'd give our hard-working rangers a chance to get some extra money. :>
Several of us agreed on having a sort of gift basket for new people posting for the first time in the Park Shop, which would contain $4,000 Shop Credits and a Park Pass. The lets people spend less on actually getting in the Park and lets them focus more on Items to bring in with them. Basically we'd have a note in the shop telling people to claim their "gift baskets" in their first post along with their purchase.
A Team Run event would be interesting. People could do it with their friends, or those of us who are familiar with the Park could be paired with new people to help them get used to it.
Smaller idea we could toss in as well; maybe see if people on runs at the time of the expansion want to continue them on TPW so that there's more on-site examples?
That's a good idea, Siless.
I have proposed an idea of an AIM Auction to Chain when URPG opens up on TPW, similar to the Halloween AIM Event that was held after URPG opened up on BMG.

Have an event in where it's only open to TPW members (obviously), but instead of a normal run make it a run in where the only mons on the encounter list are basics, making it easier on them since odds are they are going to be RP'ing with most likely only their starters.
Things like size of encounter list and how many mons you can take out can be changed to your wishes, it'd be obvious to decrease them. Because it's not really a normal expedition, call it the "Safari Zone"
My recommendation would be to disallow acess to the Main RP until they've attempted this event. Might inspire a "That was pretty fun, can't wait to try out the full thing" attitude.
Yeah, I think Jess is right about limiting access, because that's sort of a turn-off for people imo. Some people prefer to dive right into things, and, even though they don't always do it correct on the first try, it's still fun for them and fun for the ranger. Limiting fun is not what URPG is about, silly boy.
I love the idea of a basics-only run, and I equally love the idea of making it not-compulsory.
Gman has an event in planning, gotta run it by DoH but it's a newbie-friendly one. Speaking of which, Jess, if you see this and are on AIM and I am too, drop me an IM please :3
You guys forget that if you have a new Trainer, you can roll a list with only common and uncommon mons if their quality and experience is justified for it. I've done it before for a very new Trainer. Of course you should ask an Elite/Head before doing it, but it's always been an option. The reverse is true too; if they have a crappy list but they're posting excellent, you can reroll the lower ranks.
Also, I don't think the Capture Contest is a good idea for newbies, because it gives them a false feeling about what the Park is about. Since the Event did calc-rules only, that throws people a little off. I do like the idea of a condensed run, and limiting to basics is a thought. That would be easier for them to get through while not being overwhelmed.
I'm not so sure if a team run event is a good idea for new members only right away. We don't know how many people we'll actually get. What would be awesome, would be a Big Brother/Sister Team Run event, where an experienced Trainer takes a newbie on a run with them. It doesn't even have to be an event. Iirc, Soro did that with Kit. That'd be like a Park Mentor role, and it would help newer players get the hang of it.
I'm also all for showing example runs, like they do in stories.
What about a test zone? We collect different Pokemon from each section of the park(Common and Uncommon) and then we roll them for each of the beginning players? We can keep this going for perhaps a while until people can get use to the idea of an actual park run.
I like the idea of team runs. It would help the newbies get a chance to get used to the park and ask other members on their run about it then starting off on their own, and only havin their ranger to ask. It would be like 1 oppinion(individual) vs 4-5(team). I also like DoH's idea about pairing newbies up with more experianced players, so they can ask them as well.
Yes, I definitely like the idea of newbies being paired up with experienced Trainers, but anyone who volunteers for those has to be active. It's very important that the newbies aren't kept waiting.
I also like Mav's idea - maybe open the Enigma Ruins (or w/e theyre called) but make them basics only (Nincada - Chimchar - Zorua - Bidoof - Ralts etc only). Essentially, the Enigma Ruins would be a basics-only area that has access to ALL basics for a short period of time (newbie only of course), say 2-3 months, and then it evolves (pun hur dur) into the stage where any Pokemon can be pulled.
