As Of Yet Untitled [WWC] [UNFINISHED]
ZOMG, MK WRITING A STORY?! SAY IT AIN'T SO!
I know, I'm shocked too. However, I've got lots of free time this Christmas Holiday, so I decided I may as well see if I can scrape anything up in the time left. It was originally only going to be, like, Magikarp-length, but this first bit itself is already about that, so I'm gonna flesh it out a bit.
I do plan on making this into a sort of series, maybe. Possibly. We'll see. But anyway, for now, here's the story :)

"So, let me get this straight."
When Mark Chate had been invited to the famous Professor Oak of Kanto's laboratory, he could only imagine what was in store for him. He had thought of crowds flocking to see what this average 16-year-old boy had been called for. High-tech machinery of a shining metallic grey had filled his dreams the night after he received the phone call from the coveted Professor himself. He imagined walking into the laboratory and unknown, and walking out some sort of hero.
He hadn't expected standing in a room no bigger than his bedroom at home, cramped with meaninglessly-huge machines – that as far as he could see, did nothing of great use – and getting asked to do some wacko errand by the man he and the rest of the world had regarded as one of the best Pokémon Professors known to man.
"You want me to go to some uninhabited forest in the middle of nowhere, on the off-chance that I might find an artefact that's only rumoured to exist?"
"That's exactly right!" Oak clarified.
"Uh-huh… and what exactly is this 'artefact'?" Mark made sure to put air-quotes around 'artefact'.
Oak's brow furrowed. "That's the thing – we're not quite sure. All we know is that, if legend is to be believed, it could help out mankind greatly. That's why we need someone with the maturity, experience and passion of Pokémon – much like yourself – to go and collect it for us."
Mark scratched his head, ruffling the spiked brown locks atop it. "But how am I supposed to know if I've found it if I don't even know what I'm looking for?"
"Oh, come now," Oak chuckled. "You're smart enough to be able to spot something out of the ordinary. You didn't beat the Elite Four just by luck, you know; you had the brains to scrutinise each of the Four's strategies and create a counter for it."
Mark sighed. He knew the Professor was right, but he really was quite sceptical of the whole situation. An artefact that could change mankind forever? Why hadn't it been found already? Oak was right about the brains, but there were still people far cleverer than Mark that had gotten to the Elite Four much faster than his journey had taken him, so why not ask one of them? Begrudgingly, Mark accepted.
Oak's smile morphed into an all-out grin. "Splendid! I knew the Pokémon Community could count on you Mark! Now, if you'd just follow me, I'll find all the finer details…"
Mark picked up his Pichu, who had been busy chowing down on some Pokémon food that the Professor had laid out for him. "What have I got myself into, pal?"
Pichu, seemingly oblivious to what he was being asked, smiled and replied with an answer Mark was equally unable to understand. "Pi, pi, pi!"
Mark grinned back. "Yeah, I guess you're right. Now come on, let's see what's actually in store for us."
