So, I have a question relatively unrelated to the discussion currently taking place.
From the How to write stories thread, I recieved the impression that having a traditional 'Poke'mon Battle,' like anime style and all, is not at all necessary, as long as your story is congruent, as long as it makes sense and doesn't just seem lazy.
But, the impression I recieved from reading several of the stories and their respective grades, in the list of successful stories, was quite different. It seems as though the general attitude of graders towards the battle is that it's the life bread of the story, resting up there on the same plane with plot and character development, if not above it.
So, my question, I suppose, is... what do I believe? If I write a plot/character driven story that doesn't have a significant and traditional battle scene, am I going to be graded down because of it? Or should I just conform and try to pick ideas that having a detailed battle scene doesn't detract from at all?
