Question about Battle Style, from Reffing Encyclopedia:
Black/White (BW): Both battlers choose all of the Pokemon they will use for the battle privately. The ref then reveals both teams. The battle then progresses like a DPP battle, starting with one of the battlers sending their first Pokemon in the chat/thread.
Am I correct in thinking that leads aren't chosen privately, since it goes like a Dppt battle?

Just so all refs know, some may know this but iirc it's still wrong in Reffing Encyclopedia and many places don't go into that much detail on this move:

Metronome CAN call other moves the Pokémon learns. In my Black my Togekiss with Encore/AncientPower/Extrasensory/Metronome Metronomed Encore. (Don't ask about the fail moveset, please)

Just want to make sure everyone knows this, because I'm sure a lot of people associate Metronome with me and I didn't know it, so...

Just clarifying, 'cause it came up in my tourney match:

Regenerator does not get announced by the ref: Pokemon B/W Wi-Fi VS#23: Uber-Slowbro! - YouTube (1:17 Slowbro is switched out; 2:39 it's switched back in with restored HP)

Apparently Rough Skin isn't activated if the bearer has Substitute. However, I want to confirm this for status inflicting abilities that are based on contact. Can someone find out ON THEIR DS (Black/White) if it is possible for a Pokemon with Static/Flame Body/Poison Point to inflict status on a Pokemon if the bearer has Substitute?

Example: Volcarona uses Substitute. Then Gyarados uses Waterfall (contact move).

Can Gyarados be burned from Flame Body or does Substitute prevent that.

A thought occurred to me a moment ago in regards to this. We keep a counter in the battling stats of such things like how many turns remain for weather or screens and in a similar manner, we keep track of Stealth Rock and Spikes. That being said, we reveal more to the battlers than they would normally be exposed to in the games. So, should we announce it regardless, or keep it a secret as it is when playing on DS?

    That's a decision for @Pidge, anyway.

WinterVines and myself were talking about something similar, namely the rolling of dice. This actually gives stuff away and can be really important in some situations, example would be during my tourney battle my Scrafty got burned, and I was half-considering Resting, with the intent being to make Roulette think I was carrying Shed Skin instead of Moxie. However, I couldn't because the lack of a dice roll would have made my actual ability obvious. This happens with a lot of other abilities, too - Hustle and Sheer Force right off the top of my head.

I'm not saying that rolls should now be made private or that rolls should have witnesses now or something, in fact I don't really know what I'm saying. But again, something for Pidge to think about because a lot of the tactical mind-games are being leeched out by public rolls.

EDIT: To clarify, I don't really mind what happens, I like the system as it is, I'm just bringing up a potential issue.

Thats a pretty good point. I hadn't even considered Shed Skin and the accuracy with Hustle and Sheer Force. King's Rock flinching chance comes to mind now too...

I've marked all statements that support what it currently is in red, while I've marked the other side in blue.

I've actually thought about this before and figured it was just the way the URPG did things, back when I first became a ref. It has always been standard to display those sort of conditions, and changing it could be seen as quite radical. Yet you're right, a player would have to actually keep track of these things himself/herself in the actual cartridge when battling. In the URPG, since you can easily scroll through the chat, this may just become tedious for yourself to do, but there will be occasionally the person that completely forgot about SR on the field or the person that thinks they have an extra turn of rain, so it does matter as it can affect (inexperienced) trainers' decisions. The current way helps verify a ref is reffing correctly, but if you think he/she did it wrong, you could just ask them privately if they included [blah] in the calculation. This question also has to do with stat boosts and viewing your opponent's inactive Pokemon's % or not (there's actually no official statement on whether this is okay to show or not). Another thing is if a player disconnects and loses the chat log, they also lose a lot of info that may be useful to them. The ref could provide them with everything, but such things would not be possible on the DS (again, you don't have a log of everything that has happened in the battle, a disconnect would actually just end up being a forfeit on the DS, but we are more forgiving here, and also there is no official statement on whether providing info like that is okay or not). Having an instant messenger with chat log recording capabilities makes sure this is not really a problem though. Oh and one more thing... You can't ask the DS for damage calculations or whether move X will work under condition Y, but you can in URPG. This has to do with that as well.

In the end there could just be a rule/mode/clause called 'Advanced', where the battle just becomes extremely true to the original game and the battler can't be given info regarding: stat changes, duration counters, entry hazard existence, previous turns, chat logs (even if you disconnect), and anything else the game wouldn't give you. You also can't ask the ref about damage calculations or mechanics.

If this clause were to exist, there would be the question on whether it would be by default on in tournaments and perhaps other types of battles. I'm guessing most people would automatically so 'no', although it is inherently more competitive.

And regarding Shed Skin and stuff, that is a similar question, but not the same, so I'll talk about it tomorrow or something.

Surely the fact that there wasn't a Shed Skin roll to begin with (to try and rid you of Burn) was proof enough of your ability, so you could have gone ahead and rested to get rid of it anyway? Also, Hustle and Sheer Force would already be obvious to people calcing along due to their increased damage output - the extra roll/lack of a roll respectively is just cementing it.

But yeah, the point still stands on you wanting to keep Roulette guessing, I guess.

I think the 'Advanced' mode COULD work - however, with the whole "can't ask about previous turns", that then gives the person who didn't disconnect an advantage, as they can still scroll through the chat logs. Unless you're proposing that if someone disconnects, they change rooms entirely (with the ref being the only one allowed to stay in, to make sure the other battler truly did leave and to keep a record of HP and stuff).

Advanced mode sounds pretty awesome, actually. Although I think that hiding previous turns would be next to impossible and not really worth it. I like the idea of calcing and counting for yourself, though. Sounds like something that could be auto in E4 Battles.

Not sure if this is the right thread to post it, but Power Split cannot be calculated correctly on Monbrey's calc or Zoaa's calc. I was reffing a fake battle to practise for a ref test, and this came up.

Shuckle used Power Split on Bidoof, which makes their attack stats both 154 and special attack stats both 144. However, even if you manually input these values into the stats boxes, the damage values remain the same -- same going for when the stats are boosted (Simple Bidoof using Curse; putting in 2 beside the value multiplies the original stat before Power Split by 2, instead of the modified stat). Manually inputting 308 (154 x2) and then using an attack also yields the same damage.

For example (Bidoof has Simple in all of these examples):
Scenario 1: Bidoof vs. Shuckle. Bidoof uses Tackle, Shuckle uses Rock Polish. This leaves Shuckle with 96.31%.

Scenario 2: Bidoof is switched in, Shuckle uses Power Split. Next turn, Bidoof uses Tackle with its modified attack stat of 154. This still leaves Shuckle with 96.31%.

Scenario 3: Bidoof is switched in, Shuckle uses Power Split. Next turn, Bidoof uses Curse while Shuckle uses Rock Polish. Bidoof now supposedly has an attack stat of 308. Next turn, Shuckle uses Rock Polish, Bidoof uses Tackle. However, even with its modified stat boosted, Shuckle still ends up with 96.31%.

This was tested on both calcs linked above, but Power Split is able to be calculated properly on the Test Calc. I'm thinking it's probably something in the coding, but I wouldn't have the faintest idea what.

edit: My maths is probably wrong but you get the gist.

Something interesting I saw on a battle video:

It says on Smogon that you don't restore HP with a draining move when attacking a substitute, but this video shows that you do. Wi Fi Single #347: MultiWhite97 (Guest Narration by SiZZirP) - YouTube
