Also, instead of a single-elimination bracket style of tournament, a system in which you can fight whoever for points (like ladder) is possible for most of these ideas. You can fight anyone in the tournament once a week. If you are in the tournament, you can't deny challenges. Points in the end determine your placing.

Theme Tourney. Everyone has a three-mon team, but it has to follow a theme. A Sample theme:

"Acid Rain", a team with Poison Pokemon that abuse Rain.
Mons:
Politoed w/ Drizzle, sets up Rain for Eternity
Toxicroak w/ Dry Skin, fighter that's constantly healing.
Nidoking w/ Sheer Force, Sheer Force + Rain + Thunder = Awesome.

Such a tourney would have to allow people to access any pokemon, with all possible moves and abilities available, otherwise a very select few would be able to build a good theme. Tourney organizer would be in charge of determining whether a theme was "theme-y" enough. For example, a Single Type team isn't really a theme, but a Sandstorm team could be.

I also endorse a normal tournament, just a bunch of people battling with a point system.

Um maybe a tournament could be devised to include all areas of the URPG? Most of the tournaments that have been discussed have been all strictly battling so. Like maybe there could be teams and a story competition, an RPing competition, a battling competition, a contest competition, and even like trivia or something. Then each team would get points based on how they do and at the end the tema with the most points wins :o Sort of like URPG olympics. I mean the big flaw with this is the time it would probably take, especially with like story competitions usually being lengthy. Also RPing I don't believe has ever had a true competition so that would require some thinking.

Um also has there ever been any consideration for a reffing tournament of sorts? I know that there's a grader competition going on so it could be somehting to look into :o. Obviously a ranger/juding one could be made too to make everybody happy :D

I'd be up for it, but what exactly would a reffing tournament be, other than just reffing I mean. How exactly can reffing be competetive?

Kinda like a URPG WAR you know that thing pe2k does that involves the entire forum, but this way it would be just for urpg, basically smorgs first idea.
Perhaps like a 5 person team, and they get to choose each other for their team. then like that team competes together. Maybe if it is a 5 person thing each person can do a seperate part of the urpg, with 1 extra person as a team leader/can do it all type person, for example
just using peoples names and skills

Bumblebee - Leader/do it all
Alaska - Stories
Pidge - Battling
Hikaru - Contests
Trainer17 - Roleplaying


Or alternativley the same thing but each person doing the official role such as reffing,grader,ranger,judge type thing.

Then they do competitions and get marked on how they do say out of 10, and then get an overall mark out of 50. There would have to be like 5 people who judged each thing who wouldnt be allowed to take part.

Tournaments are part of the "URPG: Battles" section, that's why they all involve battles.

But those ideas could be cool for a URPG Contest or somethin'.

I like this idea. A slow team for Trick Room or Sand Abuse.

Double/Triples tourney. That is all.

NO! Just, no. Apart from Triple Battles not being allowed, doubles tourneys have happened before and they always kind of seem to fail due to partners. (Also refs hate them)

You know you don't need 4 people to battle in a double battle... Only 2, just like most other battles. Also, I don't hate them. :|

A "Challeneg cup" tourny, where you get rolled a number of pokémon at the start, say 10, and you get those mons with all moves and have to use them for the entire tourny, starting with 3v3 battles (most people will have three good mons) and culminating in a 6v6 final.

I'd even be happy to run it.

Ladder style? As in, you fight the person ahead of you, and the loser gets docked down a spot, and vice versa?

I always thought that was kinda lame...brackets are better imo.
