We're currently rectifying the situation. The issue is that it often gets messy when trying to keep it updated on all 3 locations. Occasionally, there will be oversights and one source with be misinformed. We'll take care of it though.

Uhm... I have a question regarding battles...

First, how do you start a battle and where may I find an active Ref.
Secondly, I can't seem to find the Battle encyclopedia, may someone post
a link to it, because I don't know what BM's are or SM's I don't know what a
STAB is or a Sleep Clause, yikes, I am a mess :c

You can start a battle by posting the rules you want to play by here, in the Trainer Station, for forum battles. For AIM battles, you simply IM a person and they'll help you out if they aren't busy.
In the Trainer Station, you post something like this:
1v1
DP
No held items (helds)
Sleep/Freeze/OHKo clauses

That's pretty standard. You can either post that and someone will accept, or you can accept someone else's battle challenge.
The Reffing Encyclopedia and the Ultra Dex are both important resources. The reffing encyclopedia is complex, so let's do a quick rundown.
A BM is a move that's learned through breeding, SMs are moves that can only be learned through events or other such ways, like Pikachu with Fly or Surf in PokeWalker events for HG/SS.
The various clauses are as follows:
Sleep, Freeze and other status clauses basically say that you can only have 1 Pokemon with the said status at a time.
OHKO clause makes OHKO moves fail.
STAB isn't a clause, its a battle term. Same-Type Attack Bonus.

So let me get this straight,

1v1 - means one vs. one (duh)
DP - means Diamond/Pearl standards
No held items (helds) - No held items (duh)
Sleep/Freeze/OHKo clauses - Only one Pokemon can be frozen/asleep at a time and OHKO clause means no knock outs...

I think?
Also for contests, I am not really a fan of the T.V. show anymore so what is the B/W way of contest, something about
the PP of the Pokemon's specified move/s/ for the specified class, like cool or beauty?

The OHKO clause means moves like Fissure or Horn Drill don't work. But if you can take an opponent out in one move, you can still do it. But you don't get any money for KOing the opponent in 1 move. Otherwise, you got it!
As for Contests... You'll have to ask someone else about that. I have no idea what I'm doing with Contests.

As for BW contests, they are something that our contest head, AmericanTreeFrog, invented. They are, from what I have been told, very similar to battles, but with a confusing twist I don't understand. For further information on contests, refer to the All About Contests Thread.

BW Contests are played out very similar to battles, however the winner isnt decided by who KOs their opponents Pokemon first. Instead it is based on who gets the most number of hearts at the end of the battle. Hearts are given out for using Moves and KOing your opponents mons, among other things. Each move costs a set amount of PP however, varied by its type and strength, and a Pokemon is considered KOd if its PP runs out.

Its 10 hearts for winning and 5 for losing, but yeah
