We usually keep the reason for bans private. It's only in the rarest situations that we feel we must inform our users, for their own safety and well-being (or the safety and well-being of the board) of why someone was banned. Today, two users had to be banned, and we feel necessary to discuss the reasons for the bans.

It recently came to light that two of our users were involved in an online relationship; one of them 16 years old and the other 11. While we do not mind users dating each other, there are limits, and dating a pre-teen falls clearly on the wrong side of that limit. This is especially true when, as in this case, the member in question had previously made sexually suggestive or explicit comments at several (older) female members.

In this case, we found that the 11 years old also had a significant habit of at least trying to, and at times successfully, dating much older members. While we cannot stop her from doing that, we absolutely cannot let her use Bulbagarden as a platform to put herself in situation where others, and herself as well, stand to be greatly harmed.

For information on safety online, including interactions with other users such as dating, the Internet Safety Guide can help.

If you have any questions related to dating other users, don’t hesitate to contact a member of staff.
