[System Error]

What one are you familiar with System Error? We're using this one.

It's on a board based off the old GameFAQs code. It was custom-written and only worked on Firefox at first, though got rewritten at some point ("a lot of it [was] fundamentally changed") to work in a greater variety of browsers.

@Nicoleta01 How many posts do you display per page? I haven't noticed what Bluesun's mentioning, but that could perhaps be the issue involved.

I've got my posts per page set to the maximum, and it's not letting me read anything before post 12 in this thread. I can see your first post in the thread for about three seconds, then it turn into #12. I have no idea what the other ten posts at the start of the thread are about. Can we please turn this thing off until the posts per page thing gets sorted, it makes any thread that has more than 20 posts (i.e. 90% + of them) completely unreadable.

Also it shouldn't be forced on everyone. It should be an option in the preferences, or defined by the user in some other way. Some of us have small data caps and want to be able to have the forums open without it eating our usage up and forcing us to pay extra/be slowed to dial-up speed depending on the provider. If it's not optional, I'm sure there would be a number of people that would be driven away by it.

Werdnae, the way this works is only that it grabs the latest post(s) in the thread since you started browsing, if they exist. It shouldn't do anything whatsoever if you're not on the last page, or if there's been no posts. It won't make a difference on your data-usage. If anything, it'd be reduced data usage, since you wouldn't be refreshing a whole page every time.

EDIT: I've changed an option in the addon. Now, it should only trim posts from the start of the page after the total posts on the page goes above 50. That should make it work for everyone regardless of their posts-per-page setting.

Oh, okay. Didn't know that because it wasn't letting me read the first half of the thread before. (it is now, so that's good)

Sure it will be handy for some users, especially the more active ones, but not everyone. Maybe I'm just a stubborn old fogey and I should just ask if I can kill it with noscript?

I'm unlikely to refresh a thread once an hour, let alone more frequently. In that time, the addon wil check for new posts 720 times. I like to leave threads open which I want to go back to when I have the time. Usually stuff that's not time-sensitive, or just something to reference. Sometimes, those threads are sitting open for several hours at a time, completely ignored, just as a reminder that I have stuff to do. More often than not, it's not the thread which is important to me, but the content of the one post that I left open.

The addon will go into idle mode while there's no activity (if you're in another browser tab or window, or if you're reading and haven't clicked or scrolled), so that shouldn't be an issue. I'm actually not certain that it will disable with NoScript, since it's AJAX and not Javascript.

For some reason, the auto update thingie doesn't work for me anymore. In fact, I can't see it anymore. Or did I miss something that's related to it?

Yes. We've temporarily disabled it to help with the BW2 sever load.

It's been temporarily disabled, among other things, to try and reduce load on the server, as the load was causing the downtime you would have noticed.
