Default Will we still have "Team Galaxy"?

When the games get translated to English, will Team Galaxy keep their name? The reason I ask is because there's already a cartoon show called Team Galaxy. Would it fall under copyrights like "Pocket Monster" vs "Monster In My Pocket"?

Possibily. In this case though, Team Galaxy is the name of a franchise, while in Pokémon, it's not used in that context. "Pocket Monster" vs "Monster In My Pocket" was an example of conflicting franchise names.

This reminds me of people accusing Team Galaxy ( the show) of copying Pokemon, since the show aired in the US after "Team Galaxy" (which technically they've never been official called) were revealed.

Your question should be "Will we still have 'Ginga-dan'?". There is no "Team Galaxy" in the Japanese version so your "still" doesn't fit.

Yes (many) fans do. I haven't seen that in the actual game though.
Strange - at other things you strictly distinguish between "fanon" and "canon".

Why should we say "Team Galaxy" when talking about Japanese games?
We don't say "Seed Leaf Town" or some other translated crap instead of "Futaba Town", do we?

It's looking at the broader picture. ロケット団 became Team Rocket, アクア団 and マグマ団 became Team Aqua and Team Magma... so will ギンガ団 become Team Galaxy or not?

    I've noticed something odd....

    Team Rocket was Rocketto
    Team Aqua was Akua
    Team Magma was Maguma
Yet, "Team Galaxy" isn't Galraxi (or however you would spell it), but Ginga.

Well, ginga is the word for "Milky Way" it seems.

More stuff, it seems "Ginka" and "Tenkan" both mean Milky Way according to this online dictionary: http://www.freedict.com/onldict/jap.html

No expert on Japanese though, just something I didn't realize but I'm sure many others did, hehehe.

I don't think it would make sense for them to keep the JP name in this case. We're not used to pronouncing g's that way. Then again, that didn't stop them with Lugia. I have seen the first lake in Sinnoh both be called Shinji Lake and Trust Lake. Yes, we have never seen this happen with a team's name before, but what does it matter? I think the "Team Galaxy" moniker was more for our benefit as it makes more sense in our language. This name may not be official, but I think at this point, PUSA would have to be total idiots not to call them that, or at least Team Galactos or something like that, just so they can keep that "G" emblem.

My only concern was that one can not speak of "keeping 'Team Galaxy'". To keep something it has to be present first. "Team Galaxy" is currently only a fan translation, nothing to "keep".

Isn't the "G" in "Galaxy" and "Ginga" pronounced the same way? o.O

Well, Team Galaxy is uncanonical name. ロケット was an English word Rocket and マグマ and アクア were Latin (but used in English) words Magma and Aqua. So, Aqua and Magma were canonical names. But Galaxy is not because this Gang's Rightful Japanese name is ギンガ団 (Ginga Group) not ガラキシー団 (Galaxy Group). So, the fans' name can always change. I'm sure that translators will want to keep the G symbol but it's quite likely that they will want to avoid "Team Galaxy" due this crappy cartoon name. Or possibly when game translators will do Team Galaxy PUSA's anime dubbers will change the name and we'll get different in anime and games. It would suck but I'm sure that dubbers don't want to have the name of different cartoon in Pokemon. Confusing, isn't it?

Guess what, the word galaxy originally referred to the Milky Way too. From Greek galaxias from kyklos galaktikos, "milky circle". The term used to specifically refer to the Milky Way is 銀河系.

Interestingly, the word 銀河団 is also an astronomical term - galaxy cluster.

Hehe, well I know that there is a nutrient compound called "Galactose," which like "lactose" refers to milk.
