I personally like Hoenn and Sinnoh the best.
Kanto was my least favorite and HGSS's remade music was awful.
Unova is ok.

Oh dear...I don't like the idea of the thread. Nevertheless, I'll reply:
To be absolutely honest, I never really liked Generation III and its heavy trumpet use. Generation IV was good, and it introduced some variations on old themes for HGSS as well as new themes like Battle! Lugia, but it almost sounded a bit generic for the Generation. Generation V was where those instruments hit it right (for DS games, anyway) for me, though I did note it brought back the trumpet abuse (albeit in DS form). The first 2 Generations I don't really comment on, but they're there for nostalgia in my eyes.

I think tune wise all of them are very unique, but I disliked HGSS's "pop" sound it had. I played that game with the GB turned on.
Unova on the other hand was ok, it's just Nimbasa kills me. I Hate that city's music. Everything else is nice though, I've grown very fond of Aspertia city/

Kanto and Johto have the best music. Hoenn has cool tunes but I don't like the trumpet being so overplayed. Sinnoh's music was very bland and forgettable like the generation itself. Unova's music was cool too; Route 10 is my all-time favorite song in the whole series.
All of them except for Sinnoh/Gen IV are my favorites. I love the Kanto and Johto music, although the remixes in HGSS aren't great
Wait, "pop"? What do you mean by that exactly, Vulpix? I don't quite get it.

Unova and Hoenn has the best. Hoenn is full of blaring trumpets and drums and pianos and just a wide variety of instruments (mainly trumpets lol). Unova's music was also beautiful. It's completely different and I like the "layers" where you can activate or deactivate certain parts by walking by or talking to someone. My favorite is the one from Village Bridge. It's beautifully composed and I like adding on the layers. 's
I don't like Sinnoh's music alot. It doesn't stand out that much to and not very memorable to me.
I personally love the sinnoh music mainly because it was the first tunes since RBY that I really enjoyed alot. I find myself listening to it all the time.^-^
The kanto music in RBY is nostalgic personally. Unova music not bad but i find it hit and miss for some reason.
My name is Daffy Duck, I worked on a Merry-Go-Round, The job was swell,
I did quite well,Till the Merry-go-round broke down.

I liked R/B/Y and G/S/C the best as far as music goes. The music nowadays is alright but not as memorable for me.
I like Gen IV, but the best bicycle music is from FR/LG
I'll have to go with Gen III Hoenn on this one. City/Town music just sounded so serene :) I'm playing the nostalgia card when I say Gen I Kanto's music is awesome too, but it deserves a mention nonetheless.

vulpix, I see. To each their own, I guess.
Also, if you're wondering, my highlights for each generation are:
Generation I: Battle! Rival
Generation II: Battle! Champion
Generation III: Battle! Frontier Brain
Generation IV: Battle! Giratina
Generation V: Not a single song, but the amazement at just how many songs they managed to conjure up for B2W2 compared to what they would usually have done (third version, mostly the same music just with a few added things).

I think my favourite Gen music-wise would be Gen II. Stuff like Azelea, Goldenrod and National Park, not to mention the remixed battle themes in Kanto.
I have a hard time pointing out each generations weaknesses, but if I had to settle one I couldn't get into quite as much it would be Gen III. There's alot of good themes on the routes and the cities, but I really had a hard time getting into the battle music. All Gens have amazing music though.
I get what you're trying to say. It is too pop; mostly Kanto's music. Viridian's and Cerulean's themes aren't very good. Still, they're better than FireRed's/LeafGreen's remixes. Now THAT was an awful job of remixing. In my opinion, they messed up every single theme in those games.
Now, back to HeartGold, I think it's unfair to say all its soundtrack is bad. Some songs were very well remade, like this one:
