On the same note, a move that misses the target produces no animation; in a Double or Triple battle, if it misses the first enemy but hits the other(s), the animation waits until the second enemy before it displays. I find these confusing.
Then again, in the main series move animations have always been a single animation from one fixed location to another. In console battling (Stadium, Colosseum/XD, etc.) move animations were actually two parts: The user's execution and the target's reaction. So if the move missed, the first part (the user performing it) animates but the second (the target getting hit) does not.
Which seems to be the case with X and Y (notice the camera cuts in the trailer), at least for some moves.
