VG Weekly Poll #33 Which type needs more attention?
Hello Everynyan! Welcome to the thirty-third instalment in the Video Games Forum's new weekly series of polls! Apologies for the lack of a poll last week; my internet was down until last Friday and I thought it would be pointless to have a poll up for only 2 days or to break the Monday tradition.
Centered around the Pokemon series of video games, these polls will be based on the various different aspects of the popular video game franchise. Every Monday, a Video Games staff member will post a new poll that'll remained stickied up on top of the forum. Suggestions for polls and questions can be sent to Joshawott, and they could possibly used for new polls (credit will be given, of course).
With that out of the way, here is the poll: Which type needs more attention in a future generation?. Is this question really that simple? Out of the 17 types, which one do you believe deserves to be represented more in a future generation - either in Pokémon distribution or moves?

Re: VG Weekly Poll #33 Which type needs more attention?
Ghost.
649 Pokemon and 5 generations later, it still accounts for the smallest percentage of all Pokemon. (27/649 = 4.1%)
Dragon isn't far behind at all (29/649 = 4.4%), but it still gets way more attention because of all the legendary dragon mascots.
Re: VG Weekly Poll #33 Which type needs more attention?
I think Poison needs it because it is only super-effective on grass and most of its type combos don't help it much either. I don't know what they could do to help it, but I'm confident they can find something.
Re: VG Weekly Poll #33 Which type needs more attention?
Let's see:
Fire - Suffering from Steath Rock and weather-based teams
Grass - Lackluster movepools
Water - One of the four dominant types
Electric - Majority acks any coverage against Ground types
Flying - Stealth Rock making them less common
Rock - Outclassed by Steel types
Ground - One of the four dominant types
Normal - Nothing special about them
Fighting - One of the four dominant types
Psychic - Unfairly nerfed because of Gen 1
Ghost - Lacking in numbers
Dark - Partially responsible for unfairly nerfing Psychic types
Bug - The joke characters of Pokemon
Poison - Have little niche because of how widespread Toxic is
Steel - One of the four dominant types
Ice - Stinks at everything defensively and outclassed by Water (also, Stealth Rock)
Dragon - Powerful but rare in numbers (questioning the purpose of having Dragon-themed Elite Four members and Dragon gyms as the last gym despite the latter)
Grass, Fire, Ice, Posion, and Psychic seem like the ones I'm more concerned about, but Ice really has worse and needs more attention.
Re: VG Weekly Poll #33 Which type needs more attention?
Ice seems like the type I think needs the most attention. I believe it needs both more Pokemon distribution and moves since there should be something to compensate for having several weaknesses.
Re: VG Weekly Poll #33 Which type needs more attention?
Grass: It's not more pokémon what it needs, but good moves, and helping out pokémon that have potential. Possibly new good moves would be good.
Ghost: Ghost is a very rare type, it'd be nice to see more of them.
Ice: It needs... something. Maybe new good attackers and sweepers. Maybe strong and powerful ice moves. Both would help it.
Poison: A legendary. Or rather... better poison pokémon. I guess something like Ice and Grass.
Dragon: It needs more normal pokémon! Things like Flygon and Druddigon or Haxorus. No (pseudo)legendaries, we only have 5 dragon families that aren't!
For comparision, there are 14 Ghost families that aren't legendary.
Actually, having seen how horribly distributed Dragon is, I am voting for it. Seriously, five families. Nine if you count pseudo-legendaries.
On a tangential note, I just noticed Steel is repeated in the poll.
Re: VG Weekly Poll #33 Which type needs more attention?
Ice needs many things, not least among them is to not be resisted by water. More ice type pokemon would be very welcome, as well as more variety of moves. Something that is desperately needed is a move that will definitely freeze. That status is so rare, I tend to do a double-take when it actually happens.
Re: VG Weekly Poll #33 Which type needs more attention?
Ice type needs to be improved a lot. Ice types seem kinda frail and weak.
Re: VG Weekly Poll #33 Which type needs more attention?
Bug and Poison needs more moves.
The types have Pokémon with very good designs, but they are so weak.
The others are already good.
Re: VG Weekly Poll #33 Which type needs more attention?
Grass: Not more Pokemon representation per se, but much wider movepools. Moves like Wish, Baton Pass, Taunt, U-Turn, Nasty Plot, and Earth Power should be given to more Grass type Pokemon.
Ice: Needs to create a new niche that Water can't hog. I suggest some powerful Ice type moves that are not extended to Water Pokemon. Maybe an Ice type Eruption or Leaf Storm or perhaps a freezing Hypnosis (shaky accuracy included.) Also, a buff to hail wouldn't hurt.
Poison: I dunno what to give this type, but it needs something.
Ghost: Needs more representation.
As an aside, I feel content with the Dragon type distribution as it is. Dragons are supposed to be rare and mythical creatures, so it makes sense that a lot of them are legendary and pseudo legendary. Making too many regular Dragon types takes away from the air of mystery and grandeur they bring with them.
@Ghetsis-Dennis Fire types do have favorable weather in the form of Sun, so they're no worse off than the Flying types. As for the Bug types, I hardly think Scizor, Forretress, Volcarona, Heracross, or Genesect appreciate you calling them 'joke characters.'
Re: VG Weekly Poll #33 Which type needs more attention?
@Grass Type Trainer But the metagame is dominated by Rain Dance and Sandstorm teams, leaving Sunny Day teams to dust because they will not use more than one fire type. Plus they're too frail to summon the sun on the first turn, which is why Drought made Ninetales overused.

@Ghetsis-Dennis Sun is still a very viable strategy in the OU metagame. Just because it's used less than sand and rain doesn't mean they got the shaft. Bulky Ninetales sets can still handle themselves, Venusaur absolutely destroys all the other weather inducers provided they switch in on him, Donphan spins away rocks and the rest of the party can be dedicated Fire type sweepers like Volcarona and Infernape.
If you want a weather condition that really got screwed over, I present: Hail.
Re: VG Weekly Poll #33 Which type needs more attention?
Ice, most likely in the form of more Hail abusing abilities and a buff to Hail itself. A physical move with a base power of at least 100 would be nice too.
Also Pokemon with better stat distributions, the Ice types from Gen V stink out loud in that respect. Sinnoh's Ice types should be the benchmark for the typing's future recruits.
Honourable mentions go to special Rock types and physical Ghosts. Power Gem and Shadow Claw just don't cut it.
Re: VG Weekly Poll #33 Which type needs more attention?
Poison needs fixing the most. If they were to introduce a move of poison type that is really good and usable, like Toxic, but can only be learned by Poison types,it would increase their usage.
I don't see any way Ice can protect itself from Stealth Rock besides dual typing.
Ghost and Bug simply need to expand from support roles solely and get moves with high base power to gain more overall usability.
