I used to think that Rotom and Unown were legendary Pokemon. I also didn't know that the legendary status of Phione was disputed. I thought it was a legendary, no questions asked. I don't know what it actually is though.
That constantly hitting "A" would help me catch pokemon. I know It's not true now, but I still do it. It's become a habit.
That, and thinking that once the rocket ship in Mossdeep launched 100 times, I could go up into space and catch deoxys.
I used to think Ice was super effective against Rock, but I think that was mostly because all of the Rock types in Gen I (bar the Fossil Pokemon) were Rock/Ground and it was an easy mistake for my young self to make.
When I was a little kid I genuinely believed that the alcove behind Bill's house led to his magic garden where you could find all the Eeveelutions, and Eevee, and Mew, and lots of other cool stuff. And Mew under the truck. Oh, and that if you spoke to the guy behind the counter in Celadon City you would get Marill.
I once thought that Rock-types were weak against Ice-types.
That holding A will help when catching a Pokemon. I know it has no effect at all, but its just a habit I picked up and I still do it to this day. I also turn down the volume and close my eyes so I can open them and be excited that I caught a Pokemon or be disappointed that I didn't.
I used to think the Magnemite line had an immunity to Ground type moves because they floated in the air...
And leaving the room when throwing a Snag ball on Colosseum would increase the chances of snagging the Shadow legendaries. Think it had something to with stopping me from jinxing it or something.
I still move the d-pad back in forth when I try to catch Pokemon. It obviously doesn't work but that doesn't stop me from doing it anyway. But here's a weird one I heard and tried, in fire red and leaf green you could enter a password in the poke Mart survey, which would teleport you to the tanoby chambers in the sevi islands and you could catch celebi there. pretty stupid huh?
I was sure that Rock types were immune to Electric type moves for so long. I think that it was a combination of the anime always saying that Pikachu was at a disadvantage against Rock Pokemon, instead of Ground types, for a long time and a lot of the Rock types were also part Ground type.
I also remember pressing A in the hopes that it would help me catch a Pokemon. I think I only did that for the first and second generations before realizing that it wasn't true.

I used to think pressing B would help me catch a Pokemon and that pressing A would make an attack do more damage, I know that's not the case now.
I had actually discovered the truck on my own at the age of 7 just from being the kind of kid who figured he could find a way to surf around the SS Ann. I purposely lost a battle on the ship and came back, and that truck confused the hell out of me.
But years later when I heard about the Mew thing I totally understood how people could have fallen for it. There was just no reason for that truck to be there.
