NO, I LOVE THE TILE SYSTEM.
It would be easy enough to emulate the D-Pad feel via Analog Stick, anyway.
Taking away the tile system would take away the "classic JRPG" feel. :/

I think it'd be better if they let you walk diagonally like in PMD and the ranger series. I don't think it should be changed beyond that. It's give us more memory for the games, and it's still be the old school navigation the pokemon's always had. I say add diagonal walking, and leave the rest as is.
I don't always resist, but when I do, it's with The Resistance. Stay resistant, my friends.

However I'm not saying I dislike the current format of controls, but rather assuming they will be updated naturally for the 3DS.
We've seen Colosseum and XD's way of movement, but applying a traditional 3D platformer's movement system to the main series would be too drastic of a change
On a related topic, it would take longer to make 3D models of more than 650 Pokemon in Gen 6, Pokedex 3D is just a 3D picture book at most, and adding full attack movements and all would take quite a while.

If Gen VI becomes a completely 3D game (which I highly doubt at this point in time), of course it would make little sense to retain the tile system. But as a 2D series, there's no need to change the system as it stands.
No. The puzzles would probably become a little more annoying to play and for the developers to design. The battle system is the main focus of the Pokemon games, and that's what they should concentrate on.
Who is this git?

I guess it could work with the circle control thing right above the D pad, but I won't be depressed if they don't do it.

I vote no.
The main series Pokémon games have always been (and in my opinion should always be) grid-based movement on a fixed-camera environment. Not being an action-based game, there's really no need for 8 (or more)-directional movement.
And it is one of the trademarked qualities of the Pokémon games. Remove it and you're changing what has been established. That's like, getting rid of sprites and switching to 3D models. Or removing the turn-based system. Depending on how it's done then it may or may not be "better" but it certainly wouldn't feel like the Pokémon games we know.
Now if they were to change it to something like Animal Crossing's movement then that probably wouldn't be so bad, but it's still an unneeded change and I don't like it. Also that would really only look good if they switched to 3D models for everything, which is also an unneeded change that I wouldn't like.
But the games don't use tiles anymore. Tilesets were replaced with textures in Generation IV.
No. Sometimes, the tile systems just work fine. I've had enough with Golden Sun DS - it let you move diagonally, but it made the game more tough because I couldn't talk to some of the NPCs if I weren't facing them properly. Once it took me thirty minutes to adjust the PC to get the NPC talking - and I certainly don't want that in Pokemon.
Maybe minimum diagonal moves like in PMD would be fine, but I'd like the tile system to stay.
Yes, definitely.
It's clear the 4-directional movement is outdated at this point. As the overworld objects get more circular, the square tiles just get more awkward.
If it's going to be on the DS no tiles is impossible. The arrow pad won't let you move diagonally.

Gen VI would be on 3DS.
And Mystery Dungeon does use tiles, contrary to what was said earlier. Dungeon tiles - Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia
It doesn't seem like a necessary change. The system's worked for 5 generations, why change it? Although it would be more aesthetically pleasing, I'd rather have the developers spend time on something that actually affects gameplay.

Yes. Most likely in genVI will be on the 3DS,which means it will be in 3D,which means the tile system might end up being pretty stupid.
If they do keep the tile system though, idc.
