My troll detector is acting up. I wonder why?
Yes. Pokémon should change its base formula the same way Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Star Fox and Fire Emblem have changed theirs.
Anyone that keeps up with Nintendo knows this is the way their series work. There might be overhauls (Ocarina of Time, Metroid Prime), but the basics of the gameplay are the exact same they've always been. Their core as it is remains the same.
I remember Star Fox Adventures, one major change from the very genre said series had been following up to then. People didn't like the lack of airship combat. Same thing would happen if Pokémon decided to move from its core, even though people will always complain anyway, because either they changed it, or because it's the same. :/
Hell, very few series, not just Nintendo's, change their core gameplay constantly. Final Fantasy comes to mind, and the reception is mixed at best. As far as I go, I prefer series that keep the same core, but shake things enough to make every game feel new. It's true the 4th Generation didn't shake things up as much as the 2nd or 3rd Generation, but it's not without any merits. The Physical/Special Attack split was an amazing change that has greatly helped so many Pokémon, and the plot in Diamond/Pearl and Platinum is by far the best one yet when it comes down to the characterization. Likewise, there's certain shake-ups I disliked, such as Super Contests and Poffins, but that ultimately comes down to personal preference. As does this thread.
While I see where you're coming from and do agree to an extent, what could GF possibly do to change things up? While on one hand changing things would be interesting, it's wisest for them not to fix what isn't broken. Chances are, it'll just backfire and blow up in their faces.
And I like the current formula. The changes done in each game are enough to keep the game fresh enough to me.

Boy,this argument is always so hilarious.
I dont want a non-linear pokemon game,I want a straigh up game,with strategic turn based battles,strong focus on team customization and simple wi-fi.Not a WoW game with mons.If Nintendo created a non-linear Pokemon game, with live battles, a strong focus on character customization, and real-time multiplayer, you're telling me that the franchise would DIE?
If you want changes in the foruma,with the same mons,then try the 3204932'0 spin-offs.They are popular too.
If the games are so "uninteresing" and wasting-potential,millions of people wouldnt play them.Gamers arent stupid,if a game is worth to be called uninteresting,it is not bought.
Simple as that.
Super Mario games have used the same formula for a longer time.But it works,and they are friggin awesome and FUN games,becouse the formulas of a game DONT MATTER.What matters is what the game contents,what it offers.And what POKEMON games need to offer each time is new and interesting POKEMON.That is all.
I like to save the beef for my tacos, so that's why my sig isn't that...well,beefy. (:
Reshiram is for those who are cool.
Amen to that. =\
Shit if you don't like repetitive pokemon game OVER and OVER again through the years, don't buy the freaking game.
Even if you bold the words "don't get me wrong I love Pokemon". STFU, you know you don't if your going to rant about all the games doing the same thing, over and over again.
lolumad?

My philosophy towards the games main story is, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
A character creator? I'd love, especially since I don't believe that I am playing whatever character I'm supposed to be playing when I do play. Not to mention, there would be no text hurt by the fact that you made a custom character.
Changing the battle system? No way José. Fuck that; my main Pokemon playing comes from its multiplayer. It is probably one of the best, essentially, "Fighting games," available. New Pokémon? New Attacks? Yes.
For the story itself, I hear people say they want to throw out the whole, 8 gym leader, evil team, elite four setup. No. I think they just need to cram more sideplot/quests between those things.

Eh, he's right. I may be easily amused, but ever since Red, I haven't minded. A change would be really nice, though. Like you're minding your own business, playing SSBB in your house, and then BAM, a meteor crashes into your house, etc so on and so forth.
Or maybe set it up differently. I mean the core of the game is collecting badges, and defeating the Elite Four, but maybe a fresh way of doing so is in order.
This damn alarm clock spawns portals to the local dairy queen and doesn't even tell the right time
This exactly. ._. I personally loved Star Fox Adventures (sleeveless Fox, mm-hmm. ...don't ask.), and before SFA came out, I heard a few people going "lol SF64 was just a lazy hash of SF-SNES". When SFA came out, what were those same fans like? "lol this game sucks they should have stuck with shooting stuff"
And let's not even get started on the Sonic fandom, or how fans whined when Super Mario Sunshine came out, or why Mother/Earthbound, Kirby, Pikmin, and Baten Kaitos haven't seen a new game in ages. They all offered unique and different gameplay, something fans like you probably won't even touch, despite all the whining of "repetition".
Two words: Unpleasable Fanbase.
If they keep things the same, fans like the OP will just complain about "repetition" and "milking the golden milk cow".
They change it? Fans like the OP will complain that either "they're doing it wrong", or "they should stick with formula after all tee hee".
Simply put, I don't want Pokemon to change. Not because I suck at Action RPG or RTS, I just don't want it to change. Pokemon main-games are perfect just as they are.
Signature is a WIP for the moment.
For now, I have claimed: Mewtwo, Member's Card, Wide Lens, Honey Gather, and Psystrike.
They can make all the changes they want, but Pokemon without the glorified rock paper scissors battle system is like a Super Mario game without the jump button- a spinoff.
You know, people always say they want a new experience. There are these things called spin-offs, which are actually pretty good and basically fill that need.

ROFL!!!!!!
You guys are ridiculous!
No I'm not a Troll. (Even though most of you are nerdraging so bad it seems like you're trolled lol) I think what I've stated in this thread are all FACTS that prove my point that Pokemon has a repetitive formula.
I'm not saying they should never make another game the same way. So calm down lol!!! 80% of you are getting worked up over nothing! This is POKEMON okay? It's not serious business.
I'm entitled to my opinion. And in my opinion I think Pokemon could branch off and spawn incredibly successful games if they just try something new.
It's nothing to get upset over ^________^;;
-____-;;
Wow...
So because I find the Pokemon games repetitive, I can't possibly enjoy them? What kind of logic is that? I personally own a copy of every game that's come out...
I just think that Pokemon has so much more potential.
Why does that make you mad?
O_o;;
Why is it everyone assumes that I insist Nintendo only make one kind of Pokemon game, and not the other older style.
Never once did I say that -____-;;
Considering the money Nintendo makes, I see no reason why they can't make multiple styles of Pokemon games... >_>;;

You mean like what they do now with their main series games and their other spin-offs?
/thread
Really, this should just be "What type of spin-offs do you want to see in Gen V" thread, a topic I believe we already have.
EDIT: It's basically this thread except you don't want it called a spin-off and has much more unnecessary fanwank.
EDIT 2: Just to list the many things Pokemon has branched off to:
TCG Video game
Picture game
What essentially amounts to as a Nintendog
A Pinball series
Puzzle league series
Another puzzle based game
A racing game
Mystery Dungeon series
Ranger series
Those are the ones that don't deal with the same old battling, the last two being the most recent and currently going strong, though the WiiWare MD looks like crap, but the ranger series is just improving with quality with each game.
