since i always use the female character I use names that can be formed with the letters found in my name.
Would you like to ride my Ferris wheel?
Real name, makes it seem more like it's actually me.

Romaji names* are ten times as cool as the original, so I always go with that. You can call me "Osuka"
*Romaji names are literally Japanese phonetic translations of regular names, e.g. "Ethan" becomes "Isan," "Lucas" becomes "Rukasu." Google Translate usually provides a good phonetic translation, unless your name is "Dawn" or another regular noun name...
Naming my character is very important to me. lol. I try to not use the same names more than once. They're usually real names or deal with some sort of mythology.
Some examples:
October (Black)
Djinn (White 2)
Neressa (Black 2)
Adeline (HG)
Amber (SS)
Rhiley
Regina
Seija
Druantia (FR)
Bridgett (LG)
Dante (Yellow)
Emily (Ruby)
etc. etc.
I tend to use the given names for the characters. It's not really too creative, but I'm terrible with making up names and I wouldn't want to use the same name over and over again. The only exceptions were the first generation games, along with FR, where the trainers were named Ash and Leaf respectively, Emerald, Platinum Black and White. In the first two games, I did end up using my own name for the female trainers. With Black and White, I named the female trainer Blair since I thought that name worked better with her design for me than Hilda and Jaden for the male trainer since he reminded me of Judai from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. Unless I either don't like the name or I can think of one that works better for me, then I usually just use the ones they give them. I don't think that I'll go back to using my own name again since it felt kind of weird the second time I did it.

lol I usually just use my real name but sometimes I use other random names...
Zikomo (male, SoulSilver)
Clever (female, SoulSilver)
Finn (male, SoulSilver)
Aziza (female, Pearl)
Mallory (female, Pearl)
Kay (female, Leafgreen)
Callie (female, Leafgreen)
Keetra (female, Black)
Alexae (female, Black)
^already deleted those save files, though, which I regret especially for Zikomo ;-;

I wish I broke mirrors instead of promises 'cause all I see is a shattered conscience staring right back at me
The names of my PCs are always based around my obsession at the time. My SS PC's name was 'Eragon', the protagonist of the Inheritance Cycle (and the rival was 'Murtagh'), and now, in White, it's 'Aerys', a character from A Song of Ice and Fire.
My PC name is usually my internet handle.

THIS SIG IS CHOCK FULL OF SPOILERS
I usually use my real name. I find that it makes the story a little more exciting.
My PC has my own nickname: Siaght
White 2 FC: 1421 4539 2334
I generally go with their official names, english or japanese. Whichever sounds better./boring
I usually pick a typical male or female name for my character (Brian, Jasmine, Hazel, Nicole, Ava, etc). I have used Blade once. I never used my real name until like, a few days ago. I was running out of girl names! :(
Recently, I've used names from other anime/game series I'm interested in. I used Alice/Echo/Lacie from Pandora Hearts and Lilith/Moxxi from Borderlands (all girls).
I sway between Tricky, Kipper and Keasbey; though I've used Nik (my real name) in the past. Tricky's a childhood nickname my father and grandfather used to call me, Kipper's been my online handle for years and Keasbey's a reference to my favourite band.
