Default Insane asking prices at the GTS

L.1 Hikozaru for a < L.10 Manaphy... L.1 Hikozaru for a Mikaruge... L.1 Hikozaru for a Palkia

L.47 Palkia for a L.100 Palkia.

It seems to me that the GTS is only reporting the search results with the highest asking prices.

I wonder how long it will be before the price mechanism actually starts doing what it's supposed to do and give sane prices for these.

Also... I guess the fact that Diamond is outselling Pearl 11:10 is responsible for all these requests for Palkia.

I wonder what contributes to one version outselling the other? Is it just determined by version-exclusive Pokemon, or do you think people just react better to one title or box-art (IE - people always seem to respond better to the title of "Pokemon Diamond" as opposed to "Pokemon Pearl") . . .

Probably for the same reasons that Red outsold Green, Gold outsold Blue, and...I was going to say Ruby outsold Sapphire, but it might be the other way around in Japan. Essentially though...the main character of the game is associated with that version for whatever reason (possibily due to which game they're named after in PokéSpe).

Well, Red, Gold, and Ruby are all more "masculine", hot colors. I always thought that might have something to do with it as well . . .

This is the first gen that I have got the "lesser color", barring Leaf Green.

I always just figured it to be which game came first in the names. It's pretty much what i've ended up with afterall. Red, Gold, Ruby, FireRed and later Diamond in English.

Anyway, the GTS is whacked right now definitely. Though last week I managed to abuse it fairly well myself to pick up a Naetle for a mere Doomira. Though when I tried to pick up a Pochama this week, there was no chance.

You know, I'm surprised I'm the only one who thought of this: note how the games are usually listed:

Red and Blue
Gold and Silver
Ruby and Sapphire
Fire Red and Leaf Green
Diamond and Pearl

Now, which game sells more? :O

As a blue fan, I would have bought Blue, Sapphire, LeafGreen but Diamond, not Pearl. However, this line of thinking isn't too common, I think.

It also, like I believe someone said, due to the Manga and Anime usually preferring one version over another.

Such as Ash getting Primeape, a Red Exclusive, Ash being based off Red, as was the Manga character. Ho-Oh, a Gold Represenative plays a major part, and of course Gold was the main character in GS PokeSpecial.

I don't think most people look into it that deeply. X)

Here's my two cents:

Red outsold blue because Charizard graced the cover art; Charizard being one of the absolute fan favourites.

Gold outsold Silver because it is seen as inherently superior; gold metal being of higher value than silver.*

It is less clear cut for Ruby and Sapphire because neither mineral is conventionally regarded as worth more than the other.

*Diamond is outselling Pearl largely for the same reason. Also, Diaruga looks infinitely better than the phallic Parukia.
Pragmatism not idealism.

It's pretty much just subconcious. People hear the name of the first game first and that's the one that sticks to their brain. I guarantee you if they were called Blue and Red, Silver and Gold, Sapphire and Ruby, Pearl and Diamond that the same thing would happen.
