It would have made more sense to have Marshal as Champion though. Everything was pointing to BW2 pulling an Emerald like it did with Wallace and Juan. Or like how Lance was an Elite in RBY and then being promoted to Champion in GSC. Iris being Champion came out of nowhere.

Actually, I thought the whole thing with Marshal and Cheren's dialogue is that striving for the top simply to be at the top isn't a goal worth pursuing, and strength comes from within and all that lame stuff:

Cheren: ...White. It's difficult... confronting myself. I keep noticing parts of myself I dislike, or even hate.
???: That's right. And no one can ever run from their true self.
(Marshal comes in.)
Cheren: ...Marshal?
Marshal: My master told me about this, so I came to see. Do you understand? Even if you lose in battle... As long as you surpass your past self, you've still achieved a victory over yourself. So for that purpose, through battle, we see opponents! We see Pokémon! And we see ourselves!
Cheren: ...I suppose that's a line you're passing down from Alder?
Marshal: ...Well, yeah. What I want is to fight a Trainer who sees themselves that way... In associating with such a Trainer, I know I and my Pokémon would get even stronger... Well, I'll be awaiting your challenges at the Pokémon League!
Cheren: ...Well then. Okay, White! Show me a Pokémon battle!

Nothing about this says his end-goal was being the champion. Basically, this is the same argument I had as to why Cheren's role as a gym leader was very fitting. Alder himself never wanted to be champion and only returned due to the threat Team Plasma posed. I really doubt someone learning for Alder would want to be Champion just because the seat is vacant.

Now, like I said, Iris didn't come out of nowhere as her hidden talents were hinted at in the games.

Personally, I think Banjiro should have been Champion. He's not only stronger than Iris, but he looks like quite a fun character, and would be nice to have a possibly bratty Champion.

First, there are multiple post-game characters in all games that are stronger than the Champion, namely Frontier Brains. The Black Skyscraper essentially functions as a battle facility in this regard (though probably closer to a Trainer Tower)

Second, stop confounding the Anime's portrayal of Iris with the one from the games.

How is he stronger than her? Because he has a random Latios for no apparent reason? Because his team's levels are a bit higher than Iris' due to there being only three Pokémon?

I never said anything about the anime. I was referring to the fact that Banjiro looks to be a brat, and surmised that he might be. You do have a point with the Frontier Brain comment, but this is just all my opinion. I would have liked to see Banjiro as CHampion.

More or less.

Panjirou is a nice post-game character, but Iris works better as champion.

People praise that awful rival of RBY for being becoming the champion and complain about Iris?

As much as Game Freak is dropping the ball with many things in these games, at least they know better than to make a character's spin-offspring replace them in the exact same role.

His Japanese name is Banjirou, what is the problem in using it?

I feel bad for Koga. Even Giovanni got a Gym Leader slot over him, poor guy.

I think that Blue qualifies as a "bratty Champion", and imo Alder's grandson being Champion would have been a worse decision than Iris.

At least with Iris, I do somewhat care. I think that his grandson is much better with the role that they gave him. No matter how powerful he is, he doesn't have that Champion responsibility I think, and is meant to be a reverse of what Alder's character is.

I'm pissed that Grimsley got rid of his Sharpedo. Why....? ;_;

I just love this character.
Her sprite animation is awesome! It looks like she is saying "rawr"

I went from disliking Iris as a champion to her being possibly my favorite champion ever. The music, the background, her design, it's all perfect.

Heehee, I love her battle animation! Shows that just because she's dressed frilly like a princess doesn't mean she'll go easy on you. Ooh, so excited, I hope she'll be a fun challenge!
