Hmm...dunno, seems the Rental feature is used in the World Tournament.

Speaking of which, there's a mode for the Unova Gym Leaders it seems with them using Level 50 Pokemon.

And Roxanne! But, alas, she looks the same...but a new sprite.

Rentals?! Are you kidding me? Entering something like this with rental Pokemon is like entering a marathon with cement shoes.

So's everyone else except Elesa and Iris. And Iris only looks different because she changed her clothes.

But Roxanne hasn't appeared for, what, 16 years by now in the Pokemon world? Surely she must look somewhat different by now.

Again, they clearly aren't giving them new artwork, and given the low detail in the sprites (both Bertha and Agatha wind up interchangeable), using the old sprites make them recognizable.

Besides, this way if they ever make another Hoenn/Kanto/Johto/Sinnoh game that takes place contemporary to BW/BW2, they aren't boxed into a specific design they just created for a tournament. Same thing happened with Jasmine. She used her old look in DPPt, but got a new look in HgSs.
