so, just as a team for random wi-fi double battles. Just looking for comments, though if you see anything that you feel absolutely HAS to be changed, don't be afraid to comment. I don't EV train, either, btw...
Lumos (Ampharos)
Wise Glasses
Static
Thunder Wave
Discharge
Power Gem
Signal Beam
I consider Lumos a Staple for most of my teams, because of his enormous SpAtk and his variety of Special Moves, he partners well with the following:
Rocky/Steely (Both Steelix) or Banshee (Crobat)
Quick Claw - Razor Claw
Sturdy/Rock Head - Inner Focus
Ice Fang - Fly
Dig - Cross Poison
Stone Edge - Giga Drain
Crunch - Confuse Ray
Any of these three will partner well with Lumos, and make a great starting duo. Banshee can Fly away to avoid Discharge, as well as prove a nuisance on his own with Cross Poison and Confuse Ray. Giga Drain was added as an afterthought, despite his less-than-admirable SpAtk. Banshee has remarkable speed, PhysAtk and PhysDef, however.
Rocky and Steely differ on only a few points difference in PhysAtk, PhysDef, and Speed. Rocky has better attack and speed due to being evolved later, and Steely has absolutely BEAST Defense from being evolved the second i caught it.
Flipside (Weavile)
Razor Claw
Pressure
Ice Shard
Iron Tail
Slash
Night Slash
Weavile... The classic glass cannon. Flipside is quick and powerful, not to mention fairly versatile, and gets STAB from Night Slash and Ice Shard. Item suggestions for him and Banshee are appreciated. Maybe an Enigma Berry?
Kedavra (Gengar)
Expert Belt
Levitate
Thunderbolt
Shadow Ball
Dark Pulse
Focus Blast
Kedavra is a well-proven partner for Flipside, considering both have respectable speed, and a combined moveset which conquers nearly anything i'll face. It has been walled, though, by a Skarmory and Metagross.
The next Duo is a split decision between Asphyxio and Motley, and Avada and Gandolf
Asphyxio (Typhlosion) - Avada (Togekiss)
Wide Lens - Spell Tag
Blaze - Serene Grace
Blast Burn - Psychic
Flamethrower - Shadow Ball
Focus Blast - Wish
Eruption - Yawn
Asphyxio, before anyone says it, DOES have a lot of fire moves. Blast Burn is normally used when i'm going to die anyways, so it gets a Blaze boost for a normally deadly hit. Eruption is good for a starting hit. Focus Blast is added to for coverage.
Avada (Get it-Avada Kedavra!)is my beloved special tank. Psychic and Shadow Ball reduce resistance to already powerful special hits, while Wish and Yawn allow me to strike with impunity.
Motley (Venusaur) - Gandolf (Blastoise)
Big Root - Muscle Band
Overgrow - Torrent
Petal Dance - Aqua Tail
Leech Seed - Earthquake
Sunny Day - Avalanche
Solarbeam - Facade
Motley, before anyone dares tell me, has only grass moves to attack with. My only counter-argument is that their dang powerful grass moves. Leech Seed + Big Root makes for a, more or less, constant health reserve during Petal Dance and Solarbeam during normal weather. Sunny Day serves to boost Asphyxio's mostly Fire-type Arsenal as well as making Solarbeam a one-turn move.
Gandolf (i think i spelled it wrong... Oh well, name rater...) has great Physical stats. I chose Aqua Tail over Waterfall because i like AT's animation better. Facade makes opponents regret poisoning or paralyzing Gandolf for the base 140 attack that'll come their way. Avalanche takes advantage of high defensive stats to deal a devastating counter-blow. Finally, Earthquake, it's a good move, why not? :)
I just want comments, really, but item suggestions are always welcome :)

Hi there
I'm currently trying for 100 wins at the battle tower. Well, actually, right now, just as many wins as possible, and hopefully improve over time :)
I got to about 30 wins with Salamence (attack/spec attack), Tyranitar (attack/defence), and Metagross (attack/spec attack). I also have an attack/HP Garchomp.
I am now, of course, realising the benefit of specialising in either attack or special attack (these were my first EV trained pokemon...!). So, after some thought, I put together the following team:
1st) Weavile - I guess she's mainly there because my last team was lacking in the speed department. I wanted to lead with a pokemon that was almost guaranteed to attack first. So I bred one with perfect IVs in speed and an adamant nature, and EV trained her in attack and speed.
Right now, I’m thinking the following moveset:
- Low kick
- Ice punch
- Aerial ace
- Night slash
However – this is the main thing I wanted to query – I am very, very tempted to replace one of those moves with ‘fling,’ and have her hold an iron ball. Of course, this will prove to be a problem with her speed stat. Despite holding the iron ball, I think it will still be decent, and if she gets an attack in first, it’s almost guaranteed to knock out the first foe in one go, what with the superb power and STAB it gets – leaving her speed high for the rest of the match. If I guessed she might be out sped (up against a renowned fast pokemon), I would probably switch in someone else. However, if I got it wrong, I could quite likely lose her in one attack (what with her below average defences and many weaknesses). As much as I’m prepared for Weavile to faint at some stage in the match, it wouldn’t be looking good if I had 1 pokemon down and the opponent having 3 with full health.
If I should use fling, which of the above attacks should it replace? If not, what should she hold instead? I was thinking focus sash, perhaps? Any other recommendations for her moveset?
2nd) Latios – my speedy special attacker with a modest nature. I’m fairly content with his moveset:
Thunder
Surf
Psychic
Dragon pulse
But if you have any advice I’d like to hear it… I’m not sure what he should hold (possibly expert belt?) – so some advice there would be grand, too.
3rd) Regigigas – The opposite of a speedy attacker (though it has a jolly nature)… EV trained in attack/defence, hopefully will take hits until its ‘ability’ wears off, and at least do some damage in the meantime.
Moveset:
Substitute
Focus punch
Giga impact
Earthquake
Substitute hadn’t occurred to me until recently, but it seems it would be invaluable to stall opponents until its slow start wears off (also allow for focus punch to work and perhaps aid the recovery turn after giga impact). Earthquake is there mainly because it’s an awesome move and would ensure my team, overall, has an effective move against all pure types.
I have no idea what Regigigas should hold (I would probably just give it a lum berry because they’re so damn useful, but for no other Regigigas-focused reason) – any recommendations with its moves?
This is completely provisional, of course – if you think one of these should be dropped in favour of something better, let me know (if it’s one of the pokemon I’ve already trained, even better!).
Thanks for reading…!
I'd have Weavile have the moves Fake Out, Night Slash, Ice Punch, and Swords Dance. Max out EVs for Speed and Attack. The sash is fine. For Latios, give it Soul Dew, with the moves Draco Meteor, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, and Calm Mind. Scrap Regigigas. He blows, to be blunt, and so does Giga Impact. He'd also make 2/3 of your team weak to fighting. And even if you keep one of the other two, your team is still weak to bugs. But both Latios and Weavile are great, so I'll leave it up to you.

Pearl FC: 5240 8395 8578
Heart Gold FC: 0432 0519 2219
Ok, I have started considering what my Battle Frontier Team is going to be. I have the following as a starting point, a base to work with. I don't know EVs, and IVs, and I am probably not going to breed for natures, but items, moves, abilities, and pokemon are all fair game for criticism.
Smeargle (Own Tempo)
Item: Focus Sash/Leftovers
Moves: Ingrain, Baton Pass, Dragon Dance, Spore
Metagross (Clear Body)
Item: Life Orb/Expert Belt
Moves: Iron Head, Zen Headbut, Earthquake, Fire/Thunder/Ice Punch
Phione (Hydration)
Item: Damp Rock
Moves: Rain Dance, Rest, Surf, Toxic/Grass Knot
Smeargle is my starter, using Spore on its first turn to buy a few turns to get set up. Uses Ingrain, followed by boosting with Dragon Dance, with Spore as necessary. After a few boosts, it should be plenty fast. If using a Focus Sash, Smeargle should be fast enough to Baton Pass out after if activates, should that be necessary. Otherwise, pick an appropriate boost level, and Baton Pass out to Metagross, the sweeper. Metagross should at this point be able to outspeed the opposition, and have the power necessary to take it down. It's attacks have reasonably good type coverage, so it shouldn't have much trouble doing damage. Ingrain gives it survivability, and keeps it from being switched out. Phione is my back-up, using Rain Dance, Hydration, and Rest to fully heal-up, and then wake up. Surf gives me a good STAB move, that is further boosted by Rain Dance. The other move is flexible, and can be used to provide better type coverage (Grass Knot), or being able to wear down enemies (Toxic).
Thoughts, suggestions? This is my first attempt at an optimized team, so please bear that in mind.

What, nobody wants to give me suggestions? Really? Is it that bad or something, or is there an important element that I'm missing? What?

i dunno, really, but nobody replied about mine, either, and mine was up at least a day 'fore yours
Ok, I'll help you.
Maelstrom, I don't know much about doubles but what I can tell you is that you need a theme. Like rain dance, or Trick Room or something like that. It just doesn't seem that your team has an actual strategy or goal to it besides hoping for the best whole sweeping.
Ekluag, your team looks nice except I question the worth of Phione. Try to use a Water that would benefit from Smeargle's Baton Passing, like perhaps Swampert.
Before posting in Battle Strategies, please read the rules and simple questions stickies!

Pro-tip: Wondercard events can't be shiny unless they're set to be always shiny like PCP.
Lol, posts piling up in front of mine. Anyhow, since this is for in-game, I think I should ask the question here. If this is the wrong spot I'll ask it in Simple Questions, but...anyhow, if I got a Hustle Togekiss (curse those dice rolls), should I use it or breed it with ditto for Serene Grace or use Noctowl?
EDIT: I might keep Hustle after all, but should I use Machamp (love Dynicamic Punch spamming, or Heracross).

I'm briefing through and saw someone say use Soul Dew in the Battle Frontier. Don't, it doesn't do anything in the Frontier, for whatever reason. If you want to beef out Latios on the defensive side, first off use Latias as it's bulkier, and secondly, use Leftovers. I'm using a Dragon Dance Latios (which is only a Latios because it needs Dragon Dance); Jolly, 252 HP/116 Atk/140 Speed that uses Substitute, Dragon Dance, Dragon Claw, and Earthquake. It's real easy t set up and can sweep teams like crazy.
Thanks for this advice :) Decided to ditch Weavile and keep Latios, and drop Regigigas altogether. I'm trying Latios, Heatran and a TrickScarf Bronzong (with levitate), so they all cover one another's weaknesses.
Unfortunately, as VanillaThunderbolt pointed out, Soul Dew doesn't work in the battle tower... a shame, it would make things so much easier!
Ah, since this is in-game, Hustle is "okay" but very annoying. Personally, I would ditch the Togekiss (Noctowl seems better than a Hustle Togekiss, especially with Hypnosis) or rebreed for Serene Grace. Hustle's 80% accuracy really hurts and can make Togekiss's attacks miss at the worst times.
edit: oh, I'd go with Heracross due to having access pretty early in the game. With Machop, you have to trade with people. Also, it lacks a second STAB and lacks Speed, all of which makes Heracross really good in-game.
Thanks for the advice!
I know, Hustle's really annoying. One thing I'm not sure of is whether it only decreases physical accuracy or also special. That might make a difference. Now, though, I don't think I'll rebreed, mostly because of the simple fact that I hate happiness.
The thing about Machop, I'm already at Eucreatic (I know I spelled it wrong), so I can just head into Mt. Mortar and get a Tyrogue or a Machop there. It shouldn't be a problem, so if you only compared them in terms of how good they are in-game, which would you choose?
EDIT
Oh, and Houndoom or Arcanine? Ampharos or Jolteon?

Yeah, then give Noctowl a shot.
edit: Hustle decreases all accuracies, even support moves.
I would still rate Heracross as the better of the three in-game. It has static base 125 Attack, good defenses, and Horn Attack/Aerial Ace/Brick Break to destroy most of the beginning-mid game. No "harsh" evolution method is required as well. Machop has to rely on TMs to get some serious coverage going on, as it only learns Fighting-type attacks. Being slow is also not fun, but at least it has some bulk. Tyrogue... I don't think I'd even bother using it. You have to be really careful if you want it to evolve into whichever Hitmon you want it to evolve, which is a bit time-consuming. So overall, get Heracross, but if you just plain hate Headbutting trees, then you only really have Machop to use.
Houndoom/Arcanine? I don't remember where Houndours appear (are they are the Safari Zone)? I would prefer getting the earlier Growlithe though Houndour would probably be better because of its Dark typing. Both are great Pokemon to use though so up to you!
For Amphy/Jolt, again, both are cool choices, but Amphy is more advantageous. Amphy, though slow, at least has Thunder Wave to make up for its low Speed, which lets its bulk and higher SpA kick in better. It also gets Signal Beam, which helps a lot against the Grass-types that Jolteon will have problems against. Jolteon is definitely a classic speedy Electric-type, but without TMs and a good Hidden Power typing, it's going on a loss because it also only learns physical moves off base 65 Attack until level 71, Thunder. I would pick Amphy.
