Note that #490's "base form" is listed as 490.

Could it be Manaphy does NOT have an evo? Of course, as we're dealing with eggs and legendaries, this is far from conclusive, but it's worth noting.

It would come as no surprise to me if the only way to get Manaphy is via Ranger, however those with Manaphy could distribute an unlimited number of its inferior unevolveable prevo to other people in some cynical marketing ploy.

I've gotta ask... why is it that so much data lists have been ripped from the games, but not one (as far as I've seen) of the Pokémon names? Is that data harder to extract, or something? I would've expected that to be some of the first info taken out.

I don't think the names are stored as data...are they?

Yes, but we've had no luck identifying the encoding of text in the game so far. It's not a standard one.

    ...

Um... dude, EVERYTHING in the game is stored as data, unless it's randomly generated or something.

    Ah, I see. Dang.

And there's no hints in other parts of the code that translate the encoded text into the output...? I mean, I guess if there was, you would've figured it out already. ^^o

So, it's still entirely possible more stuff is encoded deep in the game?

EDIT: I mean I don't think you can dechiper the names from the code.

Well, decipherable or not, it's still saved as data. It's how computers work - if the information is there, it's SOME kind of data.

Anyway. There has to be a way to translate it, because the game has to know what data corresponds to what characters somehow. Or something. If it was impossible to translate somehow, the game couldn't translate it either.

The problem's figuring out how the heck to decipher it.

Names don't do anyone much good anyway, seeing as they're Japanese >.>

We can make Bulbapedia articles for them all if we have the names, rather than slowly plugging in the holes one by one. XP

I'm sorry, I don't think Sugimori art is encoded into the game. To get that at this point in time, we'd have to "hack" his art studio.
