Thread: Clever Pokémon Nicknames

I don't really nickname my Pokemon, because when I catch them, I usually think "huh, no idea for a nice nickname right now, I'll name him later, it will probably be better than using a lame name" and leave them like that. But I have some Pokemon with names, my Infernape is named Koshimae (it comes from Prince of Tennis manga and was a misreading of main character's name that one character used) and I have a Staravia named Hoshizora (starry sky) I'm not using. I also have a Milotic named　デイジ I got from GTS and a Feebas named Kaori I have yet to evolve. I'm currently trying to find good names for my evolutions of Eevee

That's a brilliant name for a Staravia! I named my Swellow something like that before: Aozora, or "blue sky". I also nicknamed all my Eevee evolutions in Japanese (I started this little trend among myself and friends),

Vaporeon = Unabara, ocean
Jolteon = Shuurai, lightning strike
Flareon = Kogasu, to burn (changed his name from "Akibi")
Espeon = Kokoro, mind/soul/spirit/etc.
Umbreon = Kage, shadow
Glaceon = Hyousetsu, ice and snow
Leafeon = Shinrin, forest

The only other pokemon I have with a Japanese name is Absol, who I named Hayate. Means hurricane, gale, or something in between I think.

EDIT: I think that Milotic's name says "Deiji" or "Diji". Milotic's real Japanese name is "Mirokarosu", so the trainer must have nicknamed it that. But I can't tell what it means. >_>

"Deiji" = "Daisy." (There's no "zi" in Japanese; it's "ji.") Aww. ^_^

My thought process when naming that Staravia (when it was still Starly) looked like this - oh, it's a starling Pokemon - starling.. it was hoshimukudori, so let's name him.. Hoshizora :D

I can read katakana, so I knew its name, but somehow I haven't realized that it was supposed to mean "daisy".. Well, I always take ages to decode katakana-written English XD (eakon - air conditioner? wtf?) so thanks for pointing it out :D Considering the fact it's male, it makes me think the original trainer must have been someone like me XD;

I was looking for some nice names for my evolved Eevees,I originally wanted to name them Fuu, Rin, Ka, In, Zan, Rai after quote from Sun Tzu's The Art of War (Speedy like wind, gradually like forest, aggressively like fire, immovably like mountain, secretly like shadow, actively like thunder) which was also used to call a technique of one character from my favorite manga Prince of Tennis, but not all types matched, so I'm looking for other nice names.. I still like the concept though, one day I'll find Pokemon with types that match and form a FuuRinKaInZanRai team and Prince of Tennis fangirl in me wouldn't be able to stop giggling XD;

Speaking of wrong-gender nicknames, I wanted to name my Dragonair Saphira. But it's a male. Also, I think Hayate is a masculine name, but my Absol is female (but I'm keeping the name anyway).

That Art of War/Prince of Tennis team would be so pwnage. I'd make one myself if I could manage all the teams I have already...

As I said above, I sometimes take long time to realize things, for example one of my favorite Japanese singers, Kimeru, had a song named Key Mail and I swear it took me over a year to realize where he got that title from >_>;;

I can smell Eragon XD; Well, you can always add a feminine ending like ko lub ka, but it would usually look weird.. Speaking of them, I think I'll rename Kaori to Kaoru, it's male.

Because I'm such a fangirl, when I'll have time, I'll make teams that Prince of Tennis charas would use XD;

I named my male Salmence Saphiro, lol. And I named my female Swellow Hayata. If it sounds mono-gender, I just put the approprite a or o at the end to make it sound male or female.

Oh god, I love nicknaming them, but the names I give them are more names I go on hearing or some complete random name.

In Pearl my team nicknames are:
Spiritomb (female): Navel (k I made it up)
Garchomp(female): Miracle (she was a miracle after breeding so many)
Milotic: (male): Tate (R/S/E gym leader)
Raichu: (female): Miley (main star in Hannah Montana and smiles so much from the sprite)
Metagross: Mighty It is so mighty and that huge attack stat.
Charizard(male): Wentworth (the name of street and first name from the star of prison break!)

Diamond: currently developing:
Roselia (female): Yesenia (name of my cousin, and this name reminds me of a flower)
Togetic (male): Mil (yes random name)
Raichu (female): Raichu (i couldn't nicknamed this one since it was traded)
Crobat (female): Oprah (Oprah Winfrey anyone, lol)
Gallade (male): Ash (You could guess why)
Magby(male): Elvis (more because of the hairdoo and King me Baby ah Elvis...)

I recently bought a Ruby version to replace one I lost long ago, so here are my new teams nicknames:
Larson-Swampert, male, from Gary Larson of Far Side
Cindy-Exploud, female, she was originally Cynthia, but it sounded out of place for a Whismur
Allison-Swalot, female, I like "son" endings, and I have an friend named Allison
Leslie-Electrode, genderless but I refer to it as her, Leslie can be a boy or girl name, and she had no gender
Saffron-Mawile, female, I was thinking of spices at the time
Frank-Haryamia, male, Frank just sounded like it fit a sumo-dude

I have restarted my Pokemon Diamond game and put some nicknames on my Pokes,ill explain what they mean to me later too.

Empeleon-MasterTosh(because it is my first Pokemon,and i allways name my first pokemons MasterTosh)

Torterra-Cornelius(i tohught its a good name)

Infernape-DarthVader(my favorite movie character)

Gabite(whiuch is gonna evolve into Garchomp soon)-Terrorium(it sounds good for Garchomp)

Alakazam-well,i didnt decided yet what nick i use for it,either Raygeki,Sovereign or Overlord,you guys tell me which one sounds better.
