Re: Would you name your kid after a Pokemon?
my cousin already did. her daughter is named Angela Chikorita her nickname is Chiqui. her older brother's son was the reason why she was named like that, it was when the Chikorita episodes where being shown on cartoon network.
as for me maybe? I'm all for unique names but i won't choose something like Squirtle or Rattata or all of that inhuman sounding names. some are pretty much acceptable and some with a little tweaks in the spelling and or pronunciation it might end up as a unique name for my kid.

Even as I hope you're joking, I'd still wish that this kid won't be excluded from her peers, and if she grows to like her name and wear what other people say about it on a sleeve, then it'd be even better.
Still, what the fuck was she thinking?

well it isn't much of an issue now. she goes to school and afaik her name isn't that big of a deal, some even find it cute. i'm just not sure though when she grows up or go to highschool.
Re: Would you name your kid after a Pokemon?
Screw it now i want to name a kid Zorua haha. It still sounds like a human name and how badass would it be having a name which means 'red fox' :P
Re: Would you name your kid after a Pokemon?
Nah, that would be such a horrible thing to do, naming your kid after a Pokemon. Some names sound ok such as Kirlia, Roselia, Cresselia, Altaria, Aron, Armaldo, Meloetta, etc. but imagine naming your kid after Sawk or Jigglypuff...poor thing.
Re: Would you name your kid after a Pokemon?
Personally, I wouldn't. There are names I like better than those.
Other people? Well, I have cousin named Molybdenum. So I wouldn't be at all surprised. Plus one of my teachers last year was named Abra. It could happen, I guess.
Re: Would you name your kid after a Pokemon?
Why on earth would i want to do that 0.o ?
they would get bullied in school and be depressed.
Re: Would you name your kid after a Pokemon?
Not likely, even for Japanese names. I'd save up these Pokémon names for nicknames (such as stage names or usernames) instead. It would be weird if used as real names, and some Japanese Pokémon names (such as Mijumaru and Hikozaru) can be weird when translating to Kanji (either shinjitai or kyujitai). For example, "konnichiwa, watashiwa Mizugorou desu" or "Dageki wa baka-desu". Calling "Fokko" to somebody will result in insulting people due to being sounds similar to "***k". So this is why I don't use Pokémon names for real-life humans.
For other segments, Pokémon names can be used when making up something such as companies or products. For example, Kabushiki-gaisha Tyltalis, Chillarmy Zaibatsu, Koratta Industries, Pochama Bakeries or even Patcheel Cafe.

So naming a child after a pokémon is bad, but having their name's inspiration come from a adult actress is A-OK?
Didn't I say that I'd struggle to name my child that? I just think its weird to use a name that isn't intended for Humans.. Though that could open a whole new can of worms.
Re: Would you name your kid after a Pokemon?
No, anyway . . . sorta OT but I knew someone who named their dog Chikorita!
Re: Would you name your kid after a Pokemon?
My grandma's friends grand daughter is named Evie and it's pronounced like the Pokemon Eevee but I wouldn't do that to my kid
Re: Would you name your kid after a Pokemon?
When I got a dog I was going to name him Eevee but I thought that didn't sound like a dog at all.
