Thread: Why 'Team Rocket'?

Here's a question for you, why are the original badguy team called Team Rocket? I mean, it has nothing to do with what they were aiming for. Magma wanted to create new land, which is usually done with magma, Aqua wanted to expand the seas for aquatic life, Team Galactic's boss wanted to create a new Universe and Plasma, I'm not sure.

The point is all the names have some relation to their goal. So then, why were they called Team Rocket? And don't bother with the Adventures explaination of 'it stands for Raid On the City, Knockout, Evil Tasks'. As far as I can tell, they just slapped an extra leg to the P in Pocket Monsters and replaced the Monsters with Gang (in the Japanese). Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Well, Plasma probably has to do with Reshiram and Zekrom, which are part Fire- and Electric-type, and fire and electricity can produce plasma.

As for Team Rocket... It's probably just because:

A. It sounds cool.
B. The whole Pocket-Rocket connection.
C. They use a lot of technology.
D. It sounds cool.

I gotta agree with Lugion. Who needs a reason? It sounds cool!

Because they're aiming for the stars? Like rockets?

They had lofty goals.

That they would end up right where they started?

hahahaha I laughed like crazy XDD hahaha well, at least in Pokemon Special they explain it's origin. But I think, that the name comes from the desire to conquer places that were unreachable, like a rocket, back in the 70's, it was the only way to travel outer space :B

Beacause they're EXPLOSIVE!

Because they had a huge hat full of team names when they where making red/green and they pulled out team rocket.

you can travel space and the world (of Pokemon) in a rocket/spaceship.

Because... it... sounds cool...? :'D

Because Giovanni is compensating for something.

Probably because they were aiming high, feeling that not even the universe is their limit and reaching for the stars... plus, it sounds cool.
