Thread: Why is Garchomp dragon/ground?

And he'd be Uber *2 if he didn't have a typing with a double weakness to Ice.

Normal sharks live in the sea, Garchomp and its pre-evolutions are reverse land versions.

It could be somehow related to those desert sharks in Legend of Zelda:Spirit Tracks but I believe they simply wanted to hinder it without resorting again to dragon/flying combination.

As a lot are already saying Garchomp is an alternative "Land Shark" type creature. They have just simply reversed the idea of a Shark living in water to a totally opposite environment and it's not really meant to fully be a Shark, as it only has features of one. It's primary idea is of course to have Dragon like qualities.

It's reptilian and looks like a dragon at first glance.

Because somebody at Game Freak is obsessed with turning aquatic animals into Ground types. Not that that's a bad thing.

Because he's a land shark, who can chase you on land, and underground. It also looks like a jet for when you think jumping off a cliff would at least save you the pain of getting eaten, because then Garchomp will just jump off, catch you, and glide to safety.

And it can also learn Surf.

Really, Garchomp isn't a land shark, its an all-terrain killing machine.

Because Sinnoh needed a non-legendary Dragon type, and, since it's based off of a land shark, having another Water/Ground type in the fray will be too much because of Quagsire, Whiscash, and Gastrodon's presence in the regional dex. I'm a bit concerned about it being a land shark because Pokemon are suppose to be based off of an already existing animal/plant/object/myth/legend, and a land shark appears in neither of those categories, making it an OC, which is cheating for GF.

And it can also learn Surf.

Too bad it isn't capable of having a mix set because of its stats.

I wondered that for a while. I thought it was a Sharpedo evolution when I first saw it. It's almost uber. If it didn't have a double weakness to ice, and you battled it, you'd be f*cked.

imagine my surprise and anger when I realized that no matter how many levels I raised my Sharpedo in Gale of Darkness, that shark dragon was never to be mine (; ---;)
