Something I was confused about for months is coming back to mess with me. Just when I thought I had it figured out, I started to think about it some more & now I'm just spaghetti. When I look at the Pokedex, I can not figure out why the have the numbering the way that they do. Is there some logic behind it? Here's an example:
Looking at Sinnoh, for example. If you look at numbers 1-19 in that region's dex, those first 19 coincide with national dex numbers 387-405. Then all of a sudden, the 20th one in it is national #63. WHAT?? I really don't get that & it makes it all so hard to figure out. It goes 63 to 65 then hops over to 129 and then between the 400s & 300s all over the place. How did they not just do like this: When they reached the 4th generation of Pokemon, start at whatever number they left off at and go up??
If (just an example) gen 4 is national numbers 387 to 493 how does its Pokedex contain 150 total for the regional side? The math does not add up. I am really, really, really sorry if this has been asked before. I scoured through dozens of pages on this site to check first & anything that was somewhat similar was not quite the same.
