Mew is the ancestor of all pokemon. It's an interesting theory. But Ditto came from Mew through evolution one way or another since it's the ancestor of all pokemon. I don't think Ditto are Mew that have lost their shape, but rather a descendent of Mew that is the only one that kept it's transforming ability.

Great! I've got a whole box full of 'em!
Seriously, though, this is the best theory I've read since I read that one about Wobbuffet... I might start a club about these.
Does this explain why high-levelled ones are found in Cerulean Cave?

let's see if i can remember all the comments i came up with while reading... most... of this. lol yeah, i skiped a few pages. :P
on the comment about mew not being able to breed... that's more than likely a ingame thing... remember, Lugia can't breed or have genders, but yet back in jhoto their was a presumed "Mother" Lugia with it's baby.
@Shoes McFace: About the Ditto being weaker than mew so it couldn't overpower it... it states on the wiki that when a pokemon use's transform it effectivly becomes that pokemon, copying it's apperance, moves, ability AND stats. So it would become as strong as Mew and thus be potentionaly able to over power it. It would be more likely when changed to the reason why it has a bad memory, so it can't transform into something that can defeat Mew.
Also, as in the movie with Arceus, how it, Palkia, Dialga and Girantina goverened over a world, i think Mew is probably the one that governs over earth and then made all the other pokemon following Arceus will maybe. And that Ditto where made probably to help stop any pokemon race from becoming exstinct. Tho we do have some exstinct pokemon, like Bastiodon and such... but that might have been something that couldn't have been avoided.
I support this theory because it is awesome.
