Eh... Mareep for Ireland. WE CAN HAZ SHEEPS
Or Shaymin. WE CAN HAZ FLOWERZ

For Spain, I think Volcarona would fit (the sun shines a lot in Spain, and well, read Volcarona's dex entry).

Swanna for Finland, I think. A swan is our national bird after all.

    Everything is possible.

But flowers aren't common place here! They all die, thanks to crummy weather and sheep. Then again, I live by the Curragh, land of sheep, so...
Anyway, Sawsbuck (winter) for Finland, Maybe Ursaring or Abomnasnow for Switzerland (yay other half of blood!) And Simipour for Jamaica, man.

    Xatu for Egypt.
Xatu is far more Aztec inspired so i would pt him as Mexico besdes we have a lot of pokemon from egypt (Lucario (based on Anubis) Yamask Confagris (Ba (deceased soul) and Sarcophgus)

infernape and emboar are based of Journey of the West so they can represent China along with Arcanne

Braviary(Bald Eagle) Bofflant (Bison) for the US

Deino can be greece (based on the Hydra (a greek monster)) and Germany (They're English names have 1 2 3 in German)

Tauros fits Spain (Texas isn't a country) (Bullfights obviously)

    kangaskawn is Australia

Xatu for Egypt? Xatu is based on a Resplendant Quetzal, an exotic bird found in South America. Its design also features elements from a Native American totem.

Yamask or Cofagrigus would be a better option for Egypt.
I claimed the fabulous Burgh in the Official Claim-A-Character thread, and I claimed Quiver Dance in the Official Claim-A-Move thread.

    Hungry-Munchlax/Snorlax :P
    Iceland-Beartic
USA-(besides Braviary) at least for the area I live in, Torchic, as poultry production is HUGE in the Southern States, and it's always generally quite hot in the South
I know Hawaii isn't a country, but I've always felt that Torkoal would be a perfect fit for the volcanic Hawaii islands
Italy-Golett, Golurk, because they remind me of gladiators (Rome, Italy)
Finland-Wailord, because Finland reminds me of whales

Hi! As I was randomly googling, I found this cool drawing of a Pokemon next to a person from each country. Germany had Manetric, the USA had Charizard, France had Milotic, Korea had Huntail, China had Ninetales, etc.

There was also a thread on Serebii (from last year) that threw in some other ideas, like Ludicolo from Mexico, Granbull/Snubbull for England, Bibarel for Canada, etc.

So, in your opinion, what Pokemon would represent each country?

The ones I'd most like to see are Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, Russia, the UK, and the USA. (My wish list... in alphabetical order!)

So far, I have Braviary for the US (it screams "America"!), Ludicolo for Mexico, and Arbok for India.

But feel free to share other countries as well or alternatives to what I already have (not that I have much)! I can't wait to see some interesting responses!
Can you put some of the responses that get more approval in the first post? This thread could take a while to go through.

Per one of your requests, I'd suggest Indonesia get Ferrothorn. The Durian fruit--I've remembered that for a long time since going to the wedding of an Indonesian cousin's wedding. (If you read the Bulba page, you'll see this suggestion for Ferrothorn's origin--and I love the various classical descriptions of the Durian on the wiki page.)

Israel could get Golurk (as one has said), or, perhaps more fittingly, Shaymin. (Or, perhaps, any of the RSE signature legendaries.) Russia could get some Ice type or a horse. I dunno about Russia too much, really.
Feel free(r) to discuss Battle Strategy with me--I'll discuss anything really.

Besides being a strange (retired) battler with a storied, legendary, mythical, exaggerated, and relatively unknown career, I am also an amateur English B&W anime reviewer. (pachiba, you like?)

    And I take hoedowns seriously.

Sure! I've been reading through all of the comments. I'll compile a list and I'll post the popular choices mixed with some of my favorites.

Also, thanks to everyone who has responded so far! I would love to continue reading more responses! And, my follow up country is.... the Philippines! I was born there and I'd love to see a Pokemon for it!

Thanks everyone and I can't wait to hear more from all of y'all!

I still think Arcanine would represent China.

Meowth for Japan for being the Maneki Neko, or perhaps Gyarados, being the closest thing to what we view an eastern dragon would look like (though more aggressive) and its pre-evolved form being koi (list of national animals)--though if we're looking at koi, it would be Goldeen and Seaking.

Italy: Murkrow and Honchkrow. They have a mafia-style to them with their fedora-like head feathers. They also have a mob-like society and personalities with Honchkrow being the don and Murkrow being his little henchmen.

    Antarctica: Piplup, Prinplup and Empoleon.
    Arctic:

Since when did Antarctica become a country?

Did anyone mention Snivy and its evos for France? I think I read that they were based on French royalty.
You Might Be A Redneck If...

You think The Nutcracker is something you did off the high dive.
You've ever smuggled food out of an all-you-can-eat buffet.
The original color of your carpet is an unsolved mystery.
You've had more court dates than second dates.
The closest you've come to royalty is eating at Burger King.
You've ever stared at a carton of orange juice because it said "concentrate."
You think a quarterhorse is that ride in front of K-Mart.
