.........There's two thing you need to know:

Pokemon/Pocket Monsters: Flip RPGs on it back by having you capture and train Monsters, as well as pit them against each other, rather than just plain kill then yourselves.

Digimon/Digital Monsters: Basically Tamagotchis meets bug fights. Enough said.

Only thing they have in common is that they're both fighting monsters. While Pokemon is mostly RPG, Digimon are V-Pets at the very core.

I already know them. The only thing they have in common is that they are fighting monster, yes, but that's exactly what I am comparing here. Pokemon's and Digimon's monsters are very different too, because even if some may be somewhat similar(some, because there are a lot of digimon that won't ever have a pokemon "who looks like them/who's based on something similar", like for example Angemon, Devimon and a REALLY long list), the way they are... done? designed? I don't know how to express it, but I hope you understand what I'm trying to say...
For example... Look at Candmon and Litwick, both are candles, but their designs are nothing alike... That was what I tried to see here, because I find those differents views of things interesting.

I know this thread might be easily misinterpreted, though...

I think the word you're looking for is "referenced".

Also, the ones that don't "look like" Pokémon can be seen to "look like" characters in Neon Genesis Evangelion. Just a thought.

The word "quadragonal" is the only word with "dragon" in it where "dragon" is not a root word. That makes it awesome.

Terriermon - Hitmontop. One of the odder ones, but I think it still works.

Makes even more sense once you realize Season 3 (Tamers) was written by the same person who wrote Serial Expirements Lain.

In fact, a lot of the Tamers characters remind me of Eva characters.

As for Digimon and Characters, D-Reaper + Deva = Angels from Evangelion.

I'll stick with Pokémon. Grew up with it, plus the names are easier for me to learn. Digimon's...not so much. I mean, the anime for Digimon was good and all, but times have changed, and I still come here instead of another popular Digimon forum.

This thread was about similar monsters in the two franchises, not about which of the two franchises you like. Please stay in topic.

    Patrat - Prairiemon
    Audino - Puttimon(Pucchiemon)
    Eeve - Plotmon
    Ledian - Tentomon

Sounds like he's referring to Landorus (Orange and white with a brown tail).

Speaking of which, ARE there any Digimon based on Kamis like Tornadus, Thundurus, or Landorus? I have a feeling there might be one for Raijin and Fujin but I don't know.

Edit: Turns out there is Raijinmon, but it looks absolutely nothing like the Kami trio for a good comparison at all:

Well, there are Raijinmon, Fujinmon, and Suijinmon.

The original comparison was Palmon-Maractus, and now that I think about it, she probably thought we were talking about patamon.

Still no good comparison. Heck you can't even compare Suijinmon and Landorus at all (Unless of course a 4th Water/Flying counterpart to the Kami Trio was made). And as I mentioned, those 3 Digimon seem to take the idea entirely differently from the Kami trio (Machine like beings with Justimon's parts compared to 3 muscular Genies on clouds with stylized tails. Sound even close to each other at all?). Then again, both Fujinmon and Tornadus are green though....
