Now for Japanese.
Obviously Fire, Freeze and Thunder.
I'm gonna have to add Mew and Mewtwo the list. Like what the damn.
Meowth has always seemed like a pretty lazy name to me.
Persian may be even worse, though, considering it's an actual breed of cat. Which looks nothing like the Pokemon, by the way. So they were so lazy they couldn't even bother to find a breed that actually resembled it out of the hundreds (or whatever) of cat breeds out there; they just used the first one that came to mind.
And people think Gen.5's names are unoriginal.
People have said it many times before, but, Seel.
Seriously gais.
Gais.
Seriously.
Oh, and Trubbish. Trash + Rubbish.
I think the English name Golem is the most unoriginal, because it's such a common monster name in games. I usually do not have much against names based on single words. I think the name Thunder, for instance, suits a legendary thunder Pokemon, considering that it has been believed to be a god and probably believed to be what causes thunder in the first place. So, people say, "Thunder is coming", and they mean both the weather and the Pokemon, because they think they are more or less the same thing. The same with Fire, people in the Pokemon world probably saw it as the same element as fire; the flames from a volcano could be the Pokemon for instance. The name Thunders, however, I don't think that good. The Pokemon is not that much related to thunder and the name sounds very much like the name Thunder. I don't like the name Showers either, and prefer to spell it Shawaazu, which looks and sounds a little better.
Try the Machop line's Beta names: Kara-tee (Machop), Kung-foo (Machoke), and Ju-doh (Machamp). Also, Throh and Sawk. That is beyond bad.
How about Persian. It's a breed of cat as the name for a pokemon the only name that rivals it is Seel.
Not to mention Ekans and Arbok
Snake and Kobra backwards, seriously guys.
You know, I'm surprised we've gotten this far and no one has mentioned Luvdisc.
I remember playing Ruby for the first time and thinking, "Really? That's the name you give your heart-shaped Pokemon?"
Stuff like Ekans and Arbok is GENIUS in my mind. It just works.
The worst is DEFINITELY Darkrai. Oh hey, let's make a Dark Legendary... how can we get this across? Let's call them Darkrai! That's BRILLIANT!
