If starters could have three abilities...
Which abilities would you give them as their final one? So far they all can have two.
Also, this is mainly from a logical point of view, something like Magic Guard Charizard or Wonderguard Swampert, however much better it would make them at battling, is not a logical choice so try to keep them within the realms of possibility.
---
I'll start off.
I think Intimidate would be a nice pick for Serperior. Yeah Contrary is better blah blah; however, according to the dex it has the ability to stop foes in their tracks by glaring at them (obvious nod towards the move Glare too), which I also think would make sense for Intimidate, as it's basically intimidating the enemy. It would also mesh well with its decent defenses and switching into physical attackers. Shed Skin is another obvious choice for it; since it doesn't have access to Aromatherapy (normally), it would also be quite useful.
Re: If starters could have three abilities...
Shell Armour seems pretty viable on Blastoise, along with Flame Body Typhlosion, Intimidate Feraligatr and Sturdy Torterra.
Re: If starters could have three abilities...
Swiftswim or Sturdy would be pretty cool on Empoleon.
Re: If starters could have three abilities...
I could see Meganium getting something like Natural Cure or Serene Grace.
Re: If starters could have three abilities...
Venusaur: Poison Heal. To make a point that it is part-poison, and to give it tank-capabilities in contrast with Chlorophyl.
Meganium: Flower Gift. Maybe the thing will be a better supporter in double battles, where it's easier to... well, support.
Typhlosion: Flame Body?
Marshtomp: ... as much as I hate it, you can't argue that Swift Swim really goes with it.
Torterra: Sand Force. It learns plenty of Rock moves to make use of it, and it IS a ground type.
Can't bother with all of them. Yes, these are all pretty terrible and of questionable advantage/theming. Ignore me.
Re: If starters could have three abilities...
Speed Boost Sceptile? :D
Okay, maybe not. More like Effect Spore. That would help with the physical Defense deficiency. Multiscale could work, too, since Sceptile is reptilian.
Maybe Battle Armor for Samurott? It goes along with the whole samurai thing.
Flame Body for Emboar, maybe.

Poison Heal Venusaur sounds interesting. Very interesting. I like it.
Magic Bounce Meganium would make it very viable in singles, actually. Too bad it doesn't make sense on her. Now Drought on the other hand...
I can't think of anything better than Flame Body for Typhlosion. Maybe Intimidate?
Ugh. Swampert. Guts works, I guess. But I'm partial to Oblivious because I don't like giving this Pokemon a useful ability.
I think Sand Rush Torterra would be better.
On Charizard....Moxie maybe?
Blastoise could use Swift Swim or Drizzle. That would be fun.
Re: If starters could have three abilities...
Being part Steel type, I think Sand Rush would help Empoleon a bit.
Meganium could also use Harvest to become, well, useful in the sun. Healer or Regenerator could also work.
Sheer Force for Swampert's Waterfall and Ice Punch. It would be a Feraligatr without the Electric weakness.
Sturdy for Blastoise. It's obvious really...
Justified could work for the two Fighting types Blaziken and Infernape whilst Emboar's slightly lacking speed and decent HP could let it use Analytic well, especially with Hammer Arm lowering speed.
Yep, that's all I got...
Re: If starters could have three abilities...
Typhlosion: would work best with the ability Drought; seeing as he can use Sunny Day I don't see why he shouldn't have the ability. It would give him a slight shield against some water Pokemon; grant him access to a 1-turn Solerbeam, a much needed weapon to kill off his weaknesses; his Fire attacks will get a 50% boost, so pumping out a full power Eruption just got more dangerous :D....Come on GameFreak, you know you wanna do this.
Serperior: With Intimidate makes perfect sense as @Zeb; stated. His high defenses would benefit from the lowering of the foes attack, give him Leftovers and Serperior is a major threat.

So...anything that learns Sunny Day deserves Drought?

It's also completely useless because Poison types cannot be poisoned.
Here are my picks:
Venusaur: Effect Spore.
Charizard: Intimidate.
Blastoise: Shell Armor.
Meganium: Flower Gift.
Typhlosion: Flame Body.
Feraligatr: Intimidate.
Sceptile: Sniper.
Blaziken: Reckless.
Swampert: Storm Drain or Water Absorb. Maybe Sturdy.
Torterra: Sturdy or Sand Force.
Infernape: Inner Focus.
Empoleon: Overcoat.
Serperior: Shed Skin.
Emboar: Guts.
Samurott: Swift Swim.

I actually think Samurott is the one who fits Intimidate better. It's White Pokedex entry clearly states that it's cry alone is enough to intimidate most enemies...

Wait but isn't it used all the time on... Gliscor... Oh.
... Well, there goes that.
