Thread: Hoax Pokemon Discussion

With every new generation of Pokemon, the pre-release period is always filled with anticipation as fans scour the internet for any scrap of information of the new games, and new Pokemon.

Naturally some people take advantage of that by releasing fake magazine scans, concept art and screencaps of Pokemon they've invented.

Some people find them to be an annoyance, constantly getting in the way of their quest for new information. Others enjoy the release of hoax Pokemon, and see it as an indispensable part of the pre-release experience.

What are your thoughts on hoax Pokemon? Do you have any favourites from previous generations? What do you think about the fakes from the Gen VI pre-release so far?

So far from the 6th Generation Hoaxes I really liked the bird that was with the bug on the fake CoroCoro scan. I was really disappointed when I found out it was fake.

Yes that purple bird with a hoodie looks decent. Better looking than Pidove.
Not a hoax but I love most of the fan-art Eeveelutions.

Yeah I really liked Hipsterbird too, so I was disappointed to find out it was fake. We need more Pokemon with hoodies and baleful facial expressions.

This is Cactowl, a hoax Pokemon that was spread across the internet during the BW2 pre-release period. While it seemed like an obvious fake even when it was first "revealed" I still wish it had turned out to be real, it's such a cool design.

Do regular fakemon count on this thread?

Cactowl was amazing, and it threw a lot of people off even though they never release new Pokemon in the middle of generations. (only new forms)

What impresses me more about fake prerelease material is how well some people are able to make convincing magazine scans. Its easy for certain artists to copy the Sugimori style, but putting them into a very good Corocoro or similar publication mockup and printing them on similar paper takes a little more skill.
