Thread: Fixing the egg groups

I'm sure we've all noticed the oddities of the current breeding system. There's the infamous Skitty-on-Wailord pairing (or the more awkward and likely painful Wailord-on-Skitty). The problem is, some of the groups (I'm looking at you, Monster and Ground) are very poorly defined and arbitrary. Some Pokémon can be grouped into more than the maximum two egg groups, so they pick two at random at the cost of cutting the Pokémon off from other similar Pokémon it should be able to breed with. Perhaps the most striking would-be pairing that exemplify both of these issues is Treecko and Tsutarja. Both are Grass-type reptiles. Oddly, they are incapable of interbreeding. Treecko is in the Monster and Dragon groups, while Tsutarja is in the Plant and Ground groups.

Why? You tell me.

There is no logical reason why these two Pokémon should not be able to breed. If a whale can breed with a cat and a pterodactyl can breed with a bat, why can't a plant-gecko breed with a plant-snake?

So, what do you all think? Do you have any suggestions on how we can fix the egg groups? Or are you happy with the current system?

Yeah I know. It's weird that it isn't in the humanshape group.

Furthermore Croagunk and the politoed line can't breed either, even though they're both frogs.

yes, i would like if they change it, but they won't do it.

I'd rather not see them changed. Hot Skitty on Wailord Action is just too amusing of a concept to let go.

There are several things that would be good to change, but it's unlikely to happen.

Aside from the fact that you're a month too late, no I don't think the egg groups should change. Everything falls into place pretty decently, honestly. Sure there are some odd ball pairings, but Pokemon games has more illogical things going for it that it counter balances so to speak.

As long as I still get my HSOWA, I'm don't give 2 cents.

Breeding whales with kittens and pointing out the idiocy of Gardehentai artists never gets old.

Let's make it super realistic and have Pokemon not be able to breed with things that are outside of its own species, but those that somehow manage to have sterile children.

There, now everything makes sense.

Egg groups are very strange, but Wailord and Skitty does make sense since both whales and cats are mammals and the Ground egg group includes most mammal Pokémon.

The strangest one so fair is Aaken and Akeuso. The fossil Pokémon based on Archeopteryx (famous for being the link between dinosaur and bird)

They're in the Flying egg group but they are also in the Water 3 egg group. Which is filled with aquatic invertebrates like Krabby and Skourpi.

An Archeopteryx can breed with Crabs and Scorpions.

Technically speaking, the evolved form is a Microraptor, not an Archeopteryx.

But your point still stands, so yeh~
