For me, it's Charizard. Yeah it's overrated and and a pain to have as a starter because of the first two gyms, but it was my first Pokémon and it always had a cool design.
My favorite Water Starter is Swampert and my favorite Grass Starter use to be Sceptile, it probably still is the best Grass Starter ever, but I have grown very fond of my Torterra. It's such a beast and a great battler. It's speed sticks, but it makes up for it with great defense.

I'd have to go with Venusaur. Charizard would be a second, with Sceptile third, and Infernape growing on me apart from it's r-tard look.
Infernape.
Just an all-around badass Pokemon that looks awesome while owning in battling in both the psysical and special areas. I like it's pre-evos aswell. I tend to like Pokemon that have served me well in battling, and I've found Infernape very useful.
Although I'm not a fan of Prinplup or Piplup, I don't really mind Empoleon so much. I'd say it's my second favorite final evo, since water's my favorite type and I've always found Empoleon pretty and strong. It's also not as heavily marketed as Piplup or as blobby-looking as Prinplup.

I'm disgruntled as to why you left Raichu out of the poll. While I don't like Pikachu, Raichu kicks ass. Typlosion followed by Feraligator though =]
Infernape. With Blaziken very close in 2nd.

I found Charizard ultimately, to be the most useful for this task out of any of the starters, it learns metal claw early enough to take out Brock and by the time you get to Cerulean it is just strong enough by itself to beat Misty. After her, the rest of the game doesn't pose to much of a problem. Swampert comes in a close second followed by Feraligator.
But if I had to pick a favorite just for the coolness factor it would have to be Typhlosion.

I always loved Typhlosion when I was a kid, I haven't seen a starter that was cool as it, save Blaziken, but it's a "chicken". Pun intended.
Wow, that's hard, but my favourite would have to be Typhlosion. Charizard 2nd... the rest are too hard to order
