Anyways, I always thought of the gym guy as more or less a Wal-mart greeter. Serving no real purpose except to make trainers feel welcome and give them tips, even if they are generally really easy to figure out in the first place >.>

As for being on topic, I have something to add. There is no way his name can be "Bob", the law of pokemon names of side characters is that they have to be puns that describe their likes, or occupation. My vote goes for Jim Stalker

He was found in the gamecorner in Celadon City. The girls kicked him out of the gym.

I haven't, but this video seems to highlight the dangers of trusting a fellow Pokemon fan.

In grade ten religion we were given scenerios of seemingly dangerous stragners and what we would do if we saw them. One example was a guy who seemed drunk, falling on the side walk, can't seem to talk properly. No one said they would help. Turns out he had a stroke.
