Thread: Best Water type starter

Totodile! It was the first (and only) Water starter I ever had. By the time I was done with Crystal, she could single-handedly defeat the Johto Pokemon League, without using any items what-so-ever. Such a shame it was on an emulator...

I WOULD have voted for Totodile, but it's evolutions! They scared the crap outta me, looking like a pedo like that.

I'm gonna have to go with Totodile.

I really like Blastoise but i have to admit, swampert and empoleon are better than him. I voted for empoleon because he has fewer votes. 2 double resistances, one immunity and 9 resistances with a great special attack. He deserves it.

Squirtle for the win! Blastoise has epic shell cannons! Next goes to Totodile, then Piplup, then Mudkip.

I vote Sinnoh for the unique typing - and Piplup is cute

Design-wise and type-wise, my favorites are respectively and undoubtedly Blastoise and Empoleon, so I'm torn between the two.

EDIT: Voting Sinnoh since it has less of the two.

swampert is my fave water-type starter of all times! Its really reliable, useful, etc.

I've chosen Empoleon. It looks awesome, it is a Steel-type Pokémon and it is also a beast battle-wise.
I also love the concept of Samurott, but the lack of a secondary type and its artwork/sprite are so bad that I can't pick it as my favorite.

All of that said, I think Froakie might become one of or even my absolute favorite, depending of its final form and secondary type (...or lack of one).

Here is how I would rank the water starters: Empoleon > Blastoise > Samurott > Swampert > Feraligatr.

The best water starter I played with has to be Oshawott - aside from having the best (and cutest) looking design (same with it's next evolution Dewott), and having one of my favorite attacks Razor Shell, my main reason for liking them is the animal they are based on. I love cats and mustelids. Otters are aquatic mustelids, Oshawott and Dewott are based on otters.

So far, I'm the first to vote for Oshawott.

I've never chosen a Water starter (or any starter other than the fire-type, for that matter ), so I can't say anything about its actual performance. It's just that its design appeals to me most.

I said this on another poll, too. But Piplup was my first Pokémon and Empoleon will always be my partner and most relied on. Piplup is adorable, which is also a plus. And Empoleon remains to this day o be my second favorite Pokémon. I like all the water starters, though.

I've had good experiences with all of them: Piplup on Platinum and Pearl, Squirtle in HeartGold, I'm still training a Totodile on Platinum from an egg, Mudkip on Sapphre, and Oshawott on Black 2.
