Well, that's bull. Out of all the Grass starters, Venusaur's actually the one with the least weaknesses.

Venusaur: Fire, Ice, Flying, Psychic
Meganium: Fire, Ice, Flying, Poison, Bug
Sceptile: Fire, Ice, Flying, Poison, Bug
Torterra: Fire, Ice (x4), Flying, Bug

As for the dual types, Venusaur loses the resistance to Ground but gains a resistance to Fighting whilst Torterra loses the weakness to Poison but also loses the resistance to Grass and Water. That crippling quad weakness to Ice (usually reserved for Dragon types) also hurts...alot. Typewise, Venusaur's actually the best.

Bulbasaur is always My Grass type on my team. He's my usual Tank.

I liked Chikorita best. Mainly because I could shorten Meaganium and give it a nickname that's well...my actual name.

Venusaur isn't weak to Earthquake, it's neutral to it.

Blastoise's Sp. Atk is crap. Venusaur's Sp. Def is pretty good. He'd survive a (non STAB) Ice Beam from Blastoise and kill it with Grass Knot. This is of course assuming Blastoise is holding a Choice Scarf. Otherwise, Venusaur is faster than Blastoise.

Treecko, Grovyle and Sceptile.

They are just awesome, though I've never used them...

Turtwig! Its kai-yewt. It's the only grass starter I think I'd choose.

yes it is weak to earthquake and blastoise can tank that grass knot.
why would i give it choice scarf?
i have tons of awesome moves lie ice beam, hydro pump, earthquake toxic
it doesnt make sense to not use all of them'
mine is holding leftovers if u r so dam curious, but this topic isnt about the item its about the pokemon its self and blastoise > venasaur hands down thats why venasaur shouldnt be a good grass starter cuz the type its suppose to be strong against owns it

You really don't know your type matchups do you? Poison is weak to Ground, Grass resists Ground. Ergo Grass+Poison=Neutral to Ground

Blastoise learns some pretty powerful moves, but it just doesn't have the attacking stats to use them properly. Venusaur on the other hand, has th defensive stats to wall moves extremely well. (he can survive an Ice Beam from a Choice Specs Porygon-Z which runs circles around Blastoise in the Sp. Atk. department, so he can definately survive Blastoise's non STAB, non Choiced Ice Beam)

Grass Knot has a 80 Base Power when being used agaisnt Blastoise, add STAB and Venusaur's good Sp. Atk. stat and a standard Blastoise will fall in one turn. But hey, assuming it doesn't, since Venusaur will survive Blastoise's Ice attacks, then he'll finish him off in the next turn anyways. So no, Blastoise is not going to defeat Venusaur anytime soon. Sorry, but I got the proof that states Vensaur > Blastoise

I wasn't refering to bulbasaur, I just ment that in my team Venusaur is the usual Heavy Guy I bring in when I want to cause some chaos with his powders, and finish others off with solar beam.

All four grass starters are awesome. But overall, I love the Treecko line.
