Thread: Best Grass type starter

I actually went for the Turtwig line in terms of being useful. Despite having quite a few weaknesses, including a four times weakness to Ice type moves, I thought it was the most useful out of the Grass types I've raised with winning quite a few battles for me in my Platinum team. Though, I didn't make the best use of either my Treecko or my Bulbasuar when I raised them in their respective generations, so they're probably stronger competitively. In terms of my favorite, the Treecko line easily wins. I loved the design of all three of its form, with Treecko being the cutest of the Grass type Pokemon in my opinion, and it does have a pretty nice movepool. Bulbasaur is pretty good, even though I always thought that Ivysaur looked the best out of all three forms due to looking so tough, but my Venasaur in Blue and LeafGreen was pretty good. The Snivy line is pretty good design wise, but I was rather disappointed with how Serperior turned out while raising one in White. It just wasn't nearly as strong and useful as I had hoped it would be. The Chikorita line would probably be my least favorite since, while all forms are kind of cute, they weren't that great when I raised one in my second copy of Gold and the movepool doesn't do much for me.

I'm not going to go on which is the "best" because that opens up a can of worms I don't particularly care for. So I'm just going to talk about my favourites.

Even though the poll is missing it, the line Snivy line is probably my most favourite these days. I just think Serperior's design is perfect (even after originally disliking it). It's also been great every single time I've used one on a B/W/B2 team and has never let me down (I think the people who hate it for in-game use don't really use it right, idk. It's not a "click and destroy" mon. It's always worked fine for me). It's offence isn't great, but I've always managed to get by with it.

But just behind the Snivy line (marginally) is the Turtwig line. Turtwig is so cute and I love everything about Torterra. Like the Snivy line, I also didn't like the Turtwig line at first either, but after playing through D/Pt with it a few times, I realised it's a very reliable mon who can take hits (barring ice XD) and give them back. Both lines are two of my most favourite lines in the game (and some of my favourite grass types [along with Roserade and Breloom]).

The Snivy line recently knocked Turtwig's line off of my top spot for my favourite Grass-type, but it's still pretty close between them.

Treeko is third due to awesome design with amazing speed and good special attack. Then is Chikorita because I've used the line numerous times in HGSS and it's just great for supporting the team (especially in Nuzlockes! Trust me, if you use Chikorita in a Nuzlocke you won't regret it.) Bulbasaur line is last just because I prefer all the others over it. It's definitely not bad, but just not my favourite. Bulba and Ivy are pretty adorable though.

tl;dr Snivy line > Turtwig line > Treecko line > Chikorita line > Bulbasaur line

That's how it goes for me.

Hoenn's Turtwig family all the way. Usually, I box my grass-type starters. But Torterra ended up being a powerhouse in my save.

My choice for Kanto.

My choice would definitely be Serperior, but it isn't on the poll. Yeah, it isn't the strongest Grass starter, but I always wanted a snake-based starter Pokémon. Plus, its design is gorgeous. In a second place I gotta choose Venusaur, I just love its design and it was my first Pokémon ever. Bulbasaur is the definitive Kanto starter, sorry Charmander fans. For the lack of Serperior on the poll, my vote goes to the plant-dinosaur here.

I would rank the Grass starters like this: Serperior > Venusaur > Torterra > Meganium > Sceptile.

It's such a shame that Chikorita becomes Meganium after his 2nd evolution. Chikorita is my favourite starter pokemon and it's one of the cutest pokemon for me. Bayleef is still good and cute. But Meganium... It's not strong enough, it's not good enough, it's not cute entirely.

Um, yes. I'm very proud to say that Treecko was my very first Grass-type starter and my first Lv. 100. While Charmander was my first Pokemon ever, Treecko has a very special place in my heart. Good attack, amazing speed and badass design make it one of my favourite Pokemon ever.

Who would have thought Snivy would get zero votes, though? It's not a bad Pokemon, it just requires patience. I guess it was added in very recently, then.

Anyway, like I was saying, Treecko is the my favourite Grass starter and everyone else can GO HOME.

Treecko, Grovyle and Sceptile. I used to HATE the damn things, but after realizing that I hate the other Hoenn starters' final evos more, I went with the Treecko line.

For me Unova and Sinnoh have the best grass starters, but for me I give Snivy more the credit for best looking grass starter - I give the credit to Servine the most. Johto had the worst looking starter.

For looks I'll add Chespin to my list of grass starters, second behind Snivy. I can't wait to see how the new grass starter will be like in battle

I like most of them actually, I can't just pick one. Design-wise it has got to be Snivy's line, they're just plain awesome. Also Bulbasaur's line, my first starter ever. Torterra looks pretty badass and so does Sceptile. I guess Chikorita's line is my least favorite. I don't hate them, but they're just so...idk, boring.

I love all of the grass starters. I cant say one that i like the most. My first was Chikorita, and she is so cute :3

For appearance alone Unova's Serperior would get my vote hands down, but based on my experience with the Grass starters in battle Sinnoh's Torterra wins for me. It has very raw offensive capabilities, smashing those Wood Hammers, and shaking things up with an Earthquake. It's also just as bulky in it's defences, so it has the best of both.

Under Trick Room, or after a Rock Polish you can forget it having to worry about it's slow movement. It's quite a powerful Grass type in general really. I do also like it's appearance in a different way, so it gets my vote.

Treecko for me. Geckos are my favorite animal, and my Sceptile on Platinum helps a bunch. In addition, its got one of the best movepools I've ever seen,( dragon, fighting, grass, and rock moves) and that leaf blade should be FEARED. But Turtwig and Bulbasaur are adorable, so it was kinda close.

But Sceptile is just a boss.

I voted for Turtwig! But Treecko is a close second.

I like Snivy, cause Ash's Snivy is such a Princess.

But Bulbasaur is just plain cool.

Frankly, i don't care much either way for any of their Evolutions.
