If Ash was a bit older like around Red's age which would be in his teens, then yes. But since he's not, then no. He's much too young if you were to look at it from a mature point of view.

Hey guys, the thread isn't about Ash's age. There are threads in the anime section if you want to discuss that specifically. Let's keep the thread about if Ash should have a romantic interest or not. Thanks.

I say no. The show and writers have always had him as a love dense kid. If that changes, it would really make things weird looking.

15 years argument don't fly with me especially since "appeal to tradition" is a logical fallacy if they allow Ash to stay mature it could be great despite my pity for how poorly Misty was handled I wouldn't mind it being a new character just as long as they are a real train not "some specialist so for some reason I don't enter the league" thing or coordinator. Because then that would be waste and there would be no reason not to use an older character other than catering to younger audience.

    My answer is, it depends.

As it stand right now, (and it pains me to say this given my support for pokeshipping) no, I don't think he should really have a love interest. Ash's most important relationship right now is his relationship with Pikachu. It's the "kid and his dog" relationship, and given Ash's age that's the most "intimate" relationship I think he's capable of having.

The reason I said "it depends" is this: When I first started watching the anime I thought there was going to be real progression. I thought Ash would grow up, fall for his traveling partner, and eventually become the world's greatest Pokemon master, and that we would see all of that and grow with him. I think that was the original plan, but that's not how thing's panned out. That being said, I think there is *some* potential for a little bit of that to still be done. Pokemon won't last forever, and when it does end maybe the writers will throw in a sort of epilogue the same way Harry Potter did. Ya know, give us all some closure. That I would love to see happen. If we got a glimpse into Ash's future, then yes...I think he should/would have a love interest.

I just realized if Ash had a love interest, well it would kinda look like Adventure Time.
Well say Ash is Finn and Pikachu is Jake. Looks similar right?

    Well good luck Ash...

I think if Ash suddenly wound up with a love interest it would deter from what the anime is really about, which is mostly friendships between "Humans and Pokemon". I don't think the show is meant to be aimed at older audiences, really, so trying to write a story about romantic relationships would be too complicated, especially over the course of 9001 episodes per season. I do think it'd be possible, but they'd have to be careful with what they portray in the relationship.

... or maybe not, given the nature of some of the banned episodes.

So should Ash have a (long lasting) love interest? No.
Would I like to see him have a love interest? I don't mind either way. I think it'd be interesting to see.

No. Ash is way too clueless and so delusional when it comes to love and romance. He's had so many chicks crush on him and he has no idea. It would be insane to change his character around and give him a love interest ..especially because every season he resets and forgets everyone and everything he knew from before.

    It's how it should be.

Yes he should but he wont ever have one, unless everyone stops watching pokemon and they actually decide to change up the sequence of events each season to get everyone watching again.

I agree with what's said above, if they gave him a romantic interest all of a sudden, it wouldn't fit into the anime. However, maybe if they just hinted he liked someone or gave him little feelings, I think it would be acceptable. Not a full on relationship though.
Yeah, it would be interesting, but the fact is that they're probably never going to give him a love interest. As much as I would like to see it happen (and kind of expected it to happen), it's aimed at children.
(Though most children's programs these days are all about relationships.)

Im rather attached to the idea of pearlshipping personally although i cant imagine it actually becoming canon. Im not gonna answer whether or not Ash should find a love interest but im strongly against people who say outright "No because its a kids show". Romance itself takes a part in alot of kids movies and shows so its not exactly a valid argument as far as im concerned. (Im looking at you disney)

If they'd actually age him by a few years instead of keeping him ten years old for fourteen years, I guess so. It would certainly spice up the very vanilla anime.

Not in the anime, since the target audience is for kids and romance isn't the main subject. I think it's better to let the fans have freedom to ship him with whoever. Ash isn't the kind to get into romance either. I'm more comfortable with side pairings.
