@Hitomi: aaaaa I know! >: It was adorable! I also really adore how tense Burgundy seems to get around Cilan while Cilan is the opposite around her; innocent and often smiling. Hopefully we get more of that in this tournament and if not, sometime really soon~

Of course not, a lot of people ship couples when they haven't even seen them communicate with each other (yet). I've done it myself. |D
Just to warn you- this ship may be played out in the Anime in a way that you didn't initially expect. Or maybe it'll be what you thought all along. So, I hope you enjoy it if you watch them together in BW.

As for the two Donamite episodes we've seen so far- ah! Yes, I thought Dento's cordial nonchalance towards her throughout the two episodes. I'll start with the first one- poor Cabernet. Can't ever justify the extent of your revenge without being asked that Question, can you? That little scene of her blowing up in his face was adorable. It conveyed that she still has a way to go in fully reaching a calm level that she's comfortable with, with Dento as her rival. That's a pleasant thing to me- he still can wind her up unintentionally. Then I loved her shouting out Dento not to lose (okay, yes, it was only because she wanted to distribute the pleasure of doing it) but he answered her, that was nice. I expected him to ignore her in that scene (since in the Don Battles match, when he's battling Luke, she says a few offhand comments but she shouts that he'll lose in the 2nd round and that is, well, ignored) but he didn't, which was lovely. Her complaining about him acting so cool was so sweet- that little blush on her face said something else. Also her telling him to taste her strength with his eyes seemed quite lovely- almost her looking up to him, as she would desire his verdict on how she'll battle.
The next episode was also interesting, I mean I'm glad he was complimentary of her about her battle; it's a pleasant thing that he was, for the development of their rivalry. And, yes, his silent focus was certainly intriguing- thought he'd be cheering on Iris a bit more.

Also, I couldn't help but hear Cabernet threat that she'll make him lose in a Sommelier Showdown. I know, it could be just in a future period of time, not just limited to this Tournament, but I just couldn't help but think...

Definitely looking forward to more of those two throughout this Tournament.

Sommeliershipping has gotten some really cute hints lately hasn't it? xD

During Cabernet's battle, I found it cute how all of Cilan's attention was focused on her. I thought for sure he would be cheering Iris on more. This goes to show that Cilan really does care about Cabernet. This newest episode was good for some character development between the two as well. The blushing part was adorable. Even though she blushed a tiny bit, it was still cute. Also, I could tell that Cilan was sort of dissapointed that Cabernet lost. Shouldn't he be happy that at least one of his traveling conpanion won? I guess he was, but not as much as before.

Hopefully there will be more times where they would spend together, not only during a Tournament but also in other places. Those two sure make an interesting flavor when they're together.

I've always wondered why the writers decided to make a character like Cabernet. Was there really a reason to give Cilan a sommelier rival. I don't think they have ever given Brock a rival like that. Makes you wonder sometimes doesn't it. I really see some great potential in this ship :)

Me too. I guess I was slightly irked that Cabernet (and Langley) were the only two rivals that appear in this Tournament that didn't appear at all in the time period between the last Tournament and this one (okay, Kenyan appears only the episode before it, but still). They should indeed though, I'm sure the writers'll give us another battle between the two in the future, however, I'd still enjoy an episode of them tasting together by themselves and learning off one another. Also, I'm kind of interested in those Sommelier classes that Cabernet was talking about... I never thought they'd have classes before they reached a higher rank... stupid of me, I know.

I also really love whenever Cabernet declares revenge, Dento always says something along the lines of "Yeah, I'm looking forward to it". That's just kind of cute.

It's cute with Cabernet trying to get revenge on Cilan, while he's rather nice to him XDD

So, everyone, since the Donamite is over for now...

What did you think of the Sommeliershipping in the Donamite Arc, as a whole?

I'll give you my full anaylsis on it tomorrow, because I'm wrecked at the moment.


EDIT: Going to do it now, that I can. True, the 27th of April wasn't the tomorrow I was aiming for, but oh well.

So, however you may have viewed the Tournament prior to the Donamite, the Don/Club Battle, it certainly handled one aspect brilliantly in my view, and that was Sommeliershipping. The particular scene I will recall is BW042, where we see Cabernet confess to herself that Dento really is a better Sommelier than her, and her mellowing towards him slightly in the closing scenes.
I'm going to keep that in mind when composing my analysis.

(The hints are not fact; just my opinionated musings. Please don't take it the wrong way).

BW070: The Donamite begins. We find out that Cabernet is still a C-Class Sommeliere, Dento battles Grace and proceeds to defeat her, and Cabernet's opponent for the first round is Iris. Now, the romantic elements, or just my musings, oh well. Firstly, Dento is as cordial as ever to Cabernet in their salutations, which naturally infuriates Cabernet. Now, there's nothing lovey-dovey about that, but it's still fun to note how angry she allows herself to become with him. It is intriguing to say the least, and it occurs often enough.
The scenes I like are, firstly the one during Dento's battle. It seems initially that he's not faring so well, and Cabernet orders that he simply can not lose, as he is to lose to her. It is cute that she doesn't want him to lose, even if its just to lose to her. However, what I really like about it is that he replies, as there are similar occasions where Cabernet calls out demands and threats at him from the sidelines, and he ignores her. He also stares straight at her and cheerily replies that he won't. He doesn't- Cabernet isn't so impressed, but may I add, she has a blush on her face.
Secondly, it must be when the preparations for Iris VS Cabernet begin. Cabernet calls out to Dento, and requests him to taste her improvement with his eyes. Dento, cordially beams and sets her with the smooth-talking line, "Yeah, I'm looking forward to it." Oh, you Dento.
Anyways, the portrayal of BW042's development? Subtle, very subtle. Cabernet grows angry but tries to blow it off with a "hmph!" instead of allowing it to get at her nerves, IMO. In addition, Cabernet asks him to taste her. She must value his opinion if she especially desires him to view her strength, and evaluate it with his eyes.

BW071: Cabernet loses against Iris.
Em, what is quite noticeable is Dento watching Cabernet very closely. True, he did undertake what was asked of him, but he does it to the point of hardly cheering for Iris, his travelling companion. Another aspect is Cabernet's Dewott learning Revenge in order to gain Revenge on Dento. Bit obsessive, but that's Cabernet's style. XD
What is clear in development is her trainer skills. But, even as a character, she's quite calm, and collected for most of the match. And she does bother to taste Iris somewhat (even if she says she won't do it thoroughly or something along those lines), unlike Ash with Palpitoad (which she hadn't tasted before). But that hasn't much to do with Sommeliershipping; it's just good for her character. We don't really see any more interactions or mentionings after the Cafe scene.

BW072: Dento is defeated by Kenyan.
Hilarity wise, it's full of life, but for Sommeliershipping, it's another story entirely for me. I'll be succinct as I can be; there's no mutual interactions between the pair, Cabernet is onimous but that's focused at everyone, Dento ignores her (which, when given that's she's not exactly saying beautiful things at him would be expected, however it's just depressing as he does answer her in BW070, however it is on his honour... who knows...), and the lines directed at Dento from Cabernet's mouth aren't exactly beneficial. "No-good Sommelier" isn't a phrase
I'd use to display Cabernet's development towards her rival, either.
However, you could argue that she never told Dento her confession; just herself, so she might still be keeping that on hold. Hmm- I still didn't like it...

BW073: Since both of them are knocked out by this point, they are together tasting by the sidelines.
On their tasting- they discuss the raw power of Sawk's karate chop. Cabernet notices Dento's superiority in the command of English on the subject, and growls ruefully. So, though Cabernet knows he's better, it'll still take her awhile to come to terms with it. I mean, she didn't in BW042, really; she looks quite upset as she admits it to herself. But I am fond of that she's not too cheery about it; it shows that this relationship still has a bit to go to blossom (Why wasn't I fond of BW072, then? It was more negative than anything in that department, imo).
Eh, there's not much during Ash VS Masaomi's battle, Dento cheering for Ash, Cabernet making little comments.
In the finals, they do perform a tasting, and again, Dento vanquishes. Cabernet isn't so pleased, even less so when Langley states that he won the Sommelier showdown. (Was she the referee that time? I'm puzzled...)

Anyhoo, my favourite moment is at the end. Ah, sunsets. Anyways, Cabernet promises to Dento that she'll be an A-class Sommelier next time they meet. The way she words it, though, she tells him that she'll be A-Class one too, which is cute, that she desires to be an A-Class, and be on the same level to Dento, as an equal to him. :>
But.

Cabernet says she'll be an A-class Sommelier. That's all sweet and dandy, but the following needs to be taken into account...
- She's a C-Class. She wants to be an A-Class next time her and Dento meet (and I do think the writers'll grant this wish).
- That's two ranks to move up.
- She's been a C-Class since at least BW019. That's 54 episodes as one class (that's counting 19 to 73).
- Sommeliers seem to take classes in between examminations (based on Cabernet's exclaim that she was too busy battling to take classes to move up in BW070); that'll take time...

So, we mightn't see her too soon, because it might look a bit unrealistic. Or, we may. But probably not in the next Sommelier Showdown in BW081.

It's not all doom and gloom!
When Cabernet becomes an A-Class, she'll be finally on Dento's level, it could be established as an equal proper rivalry- so a potential development, and... we might to get to see them battle, which could spring up hints for us Sommeliershippers.

I really want to revive this thread but I'm not sure if the other people who ship this have already seen the Junior Cup tournament arc, or if they're only watching the dub? Because it is littered with hints all over again... Regardless, the Clash of the Connoisseurs episode aired in English last week, and the post above mine made me realize a couple things in it might have been more significant than I thought.

I hadn't realized Burgundy had said she'd be an A-class before they met again, as opposed to just a "you wait and see" type of comment. The fact she spent so much of the episode disguised, and lied about her rank... I thought it was just to lie to the family/get them to hire her at first, but now I have to wonder if it wasn't also to avoid Cilan knowing she had failed at that goal? Obviously he already knew but... I guess I mean, she wanted to prove herself by finding the girl a pokemon, and then would have taken off her disguise and been all "ha! See, Cilan, I solved it before you." Then again I'm still convinced she only became a connoisseur to try and one-up Cilan in his own field, as opposed to having actual interest in it.

And then a couple screenshots from the junior cup, which are very much spoilers...

Both the girls are pretty mad their rivals are still in the tournament, but they're not. Given her rather jealous-seeming outburst at Dawn about "beware of Cilan" before the tournament, I feel like she's probably a glaring at Dawn a bit as well.

Georgia spends most of the tournament teasing Burgundy about whether or not she's rooting for Cilan and her amateur choices of words as a connoisseuse

Burgundy's reactions to Cilan's defeat are far from calm. Note that she actually told him - out of his earshot - to take revenge on Trip for her. Specifically it was to "prove the skill of connoisseurs to him" but...

and these last couple are from the end of the tournament, which I haven't seen any subs for yet, and which I dissolve into an all-caps level of feels over, so I'll throw an extra level of spoiler on them

I forgot I never did anything covering the dub of the Donamite, but since all those interactions remained, it wasn't vital. About the Junior Cup, well, I already posted my musings on Tumblr here (which I need to edit slightly), but I'll give some comment on something I didn't mention in that synopsis.
The Junior Cup certainly was lacking for Sommeliershipping, especially for the final episode, where the tasting time pattern was skipped. It's true, the fact they'd taste together in the last episode of a Tournament was becoming a predictable affair altogether, but it was quite fascinating, not just for the hints, but for the development of their rivalry as a whole. Sure, it'd be interesting if they did something different with those two in replacement of the Tasting Showdown, but it's a real shame they did absolutely nothing there.

I've been more interested in Sommeliershipping lately. I love how she was all adorable and tsundere about Cilan in the tournaments and secretly rooted for him, hehe.

I absolutely love this shipbecause Cab is the only woman I can see Dento with!

I really hope Cabernet makes a return before the end of Best Wishes!, because for the most part she's only ever seen during the tournaments, and I'd love to see them interacting with other sommeliers (like in the Pinot Noir episode.) Cab is so adorable when she gets all frustrated and angry, and even moreso when it's directed at Dento :3c

Yeah, oh, a vengeful Cabernet is the best one, but I still hope she'll be A-Class (unlikely) next time they meet. She, to my memory, told Dento at the end of the Donamite she would be an A-Class next time they encounter one another (note: this turned out not to happen, but) and, so they'd be on the same level. Equals, at last. <3

I think this is my favorite Dento pairing and I hope they give a hint towards the end of the series that it may happen, kind of like Contestshipping.

I do hope she goes up a rank by the time they next meet - that'd be awesome! :3 This definitely is also my favorite Cilan pairing and boy would it be awesome if we got even a tiny hint by the end of the series, sigh. I'll keep hoping! Burgundy's tsundere-ness makes it adorable.

I don't even really ship these two together, but I can definitely see a one-sided crush on Burgundy/Cabernet's part and it really is adorable, as well as hilarious. She tries to cover it up, but it just comes off as over-the-top tsundere. I think she's definitely written to have developed a crush on him, absolutely.
