^Pikachu does that all the time, tells us about drawings then doesn't show them to us. She doesn't appear to know how to use a scanner.

Mmm...Anyone else think that 'Fireflies' by Owl City is a good Little!Ash and Little!Gary song? Someone actually did a tribute to Ash on youtube with it, come to think of it, but it strikes me as a good song for when they were itty bitty. I have half a fanfiction written for it already. (Although, like pikachu's scanner issue, my problem is I write all these neat ideas and they never show up like I intend them to. =w= I'll try to get this one up, though.)

What is YOUR opinion on what Ash and Gary's childhoods were like? It's known through manga that Gary's parents are dead, but was never touched on in the anime, and Ash's own dad is missing. What do YOU think would be shown in the anime of the three of them, and how would they be portrayed, (i.e. some think Ash's father was a trainer and left to do more training, some think he died, etc.)? And, most importantly, do you think Ash and Gary were actually friends when they were younger, like the games and manga suggest, and if so, what do you think made them friends to begin with?

Bit of a long one, but I'm interested in the responses. I think I may answer this one after a few more people have. ;D

Yes, I think they were friends in their childhood. I think they had a pretty normal life as kids, missing parents aside and probably had a lot of fun together. In my eyes, I think Ash grew up wanting to be a trainer and Gary wanted to be one to, just so he could stick with Ash but actually leaned towards researching because he wanted to impress his grandpa.

But then they grew up - Gary probably became really popular(look at his farewell group compared to Ash's. Gary's consisted of a lot of random people whereas Ash's seemed to be only of adults that were Delia's friends) and more arrogant while Ash became more obnoxious and hard headed - with personalities like that, they probably clashed a lot, till they decided they were rivals.

I was thinking about Extreme Pokemon and how their banter is pretty typical of BFFs and whenever the other is in danger, the other worries, so I figured, hey there couldn't have always been bad blood between the two. So, yeah.

As for their parents - well, I'm going with the assumption Gary's parents passed away when he was young. Then Ash came in and was all excitable, obnoxious and loud and made Gary stop being so withdrawn and made him happy. For Ash's dad. Word of God tells us that his dad is just continuing his journey. So, in my eyes, Ash's dad abandoned his family to continue on his journey but...Ash can't really resent him because while not a great guy, he wasn't bad either. While his dad was still around, they were happy and even after he wasn't around they were still happy even if it took some time to get over his absence.
