Who says it would have to be sexual? That, my friend, would be crazy. Why would a father be worried about 2 preteens getting it on?

Norman allowed Max to travel with Ash and May, because he knew more about Pokemon, than May (And to experience Pokemon in real life) May didn't know a thing (For example, getting ember confused with mushroom).

You might be missing out on a slight detail.

He approved of May going out with travelling with Ash. Max wanted to go, and Norman just said yes. No big deal. Still, the knowledge that Norman could trust Ash with both of his children, is still cute to think about :3

Besides, it might just be Max who wants to look out for May. If you have seen Pokemon Ranger and the temple of the see, Max does jump on Phantom, screaming to "Not touch his sister".

If I remember correctly, Dawn said "This is so pretty". May brought out her ribbon half, and said something along the lines of "Do you have your ribbon half?" Ash brings his out, and they put them together. Afterwards, Dawn is all "Hold on! Then you both of entered the same contest" In a pretty surprised voice. Dawn was still thinking about the pretty lights *-*

SB: I have to agree with DD on this one. Max asked out of impulse AFTER he gave May approval to travel with Ash. Therefore, our arguement still stands, as Norman wouldn't have had an ulterior motive to have Max along.

Except what's there on the surface? A friendship. I don't think Dawn's mind jumped to, "there's a spark of love between them," by simply learning they entered a contest together. Not remembering the episode at all, did Dawn know that Jubilife wasn't his first contest? If not, she might be surprised that he had at least once before meeting her participated in one, and together with a friend. If she did, there could be any number of reasons to be surprised, one being that she knew, but Ash didn't tell her that he participated with a friend and not simply on his own.

on her yearning, you're assuming that Dawn is interested in Ash romantically, and she sees May as in the way of that, or you're assuming Dawn is seeing that "spark of love" that doesn't exist in the open (meaning it's only up to /your/ interpretation, not universally accepted). So removing those assumptions (and seeing what the base of the scene is: Dawn is viewing two good friends), what would Dawn be yearning for (with even the hint of melancholy) if she's watching them?

Whatever she's thinking, I don't think it's about them specifically. We'll never know; maybe the scene was meant for Dawn to think there was some romance in the air, but if that were the case, the writers /would/ have followed up on it to make it clear somehow. It would not have been a point to go awry on for Dawn's character on her thoughts on yaoi romance.

My opinion and views of the Terracotta Contest, ribbon and "A full course tag battle"


Colour Symbolism:

First off, we have one of AdvanceShippings most important hint: The split ribbon. The ribbon is pink, white and yellow in colour.

Sounds innocent enough?

Lets get into detail with the colour sceme:

Pink:

In Eastern Cultures (Eastern = Japan), Pink and White are favourites for a wedding. Yes, you heard me, pink and white symbolizes a wedding. I have no idea of what a 'wedding' means to you, but to me, its represents the 'joining of mutual love' (Yes, joining, gettit?)

The significance of the ribbon halves

You, as AdvanceShippers must know the 'famous' phrase "Two halves make whole". BUT. Don't you find the strange that the writers even created the whole 'split ribbons', if they didn't want AdvanceShipping to be pushed? In my opinion, the ribbons symbolizes how they're apart of each other. It shows that how much Ash had affected and influenced May, and how May brought out a side we haven't seen from him.

Who understands? Anyone? You can ask questions ^^"

Anyway, with previous parting 'gifts' only Ash got the memento, Gary and Misty got nothing from him. Speaking of Gary, they both had part of a broken Pokeball, and Ash has been chasing Gary for a LONG time. Maybe he's going to chase May as well? xD *shot*..Ok, bad joke. *ahem* So, the significance that they both get something from each other, is certainly great ^-^

You know what? Sometimes I hate my vocabulary. *sigh* On with the show.

"A full course tag battle"

The famous ribbion joining scene we had in "A full course tag battle!" is one of the best and most favorited hints. You see, one of the biggest things I realized, was that the ribbon was actually followed up. It wasn't ignored like - I beg the pardon of any PokeShippers reading this - the handkerchief Misty gave Ash. When Misty went to visit him, there was no mention of it. None. The only other one that was followed up, was the Halved Pokeballs that Gary and Ash had. Gary lead an important role in Ash's life, which is suggesting, that so does May. Seemly more so than Misty (I'm not bashing, just stating my opinion).

Now, notice the extreme close up of the ribbon? Where it zooms in, and all you can see are the hands? The ribbon flashes, it glints in the..."Pretty" lights. This suggests that Ash/May are actually taking CARE of their split ribbons. They didn't throw it into their pockets and left it there, they actually took care of it. Also note how both Ash and May were able to produce them so easily.

Another thing I noticed was when Dawn was commenting on the beautiful scenery, May ignored her and directly asks Ash if he still had his half. She asked him at night, where the stars are out and while Dawn was watching them. A romantic - beautiful - location. With Dawn there, it *could* be a subtle way of telling Dawn to get her paws of May's Ash that she had feelings for Ash. Dawn appears surprised that Ash entered a contest - More so that he won one with May. There is one, small detail most people tend to skip over: "Ash has told me all about you!"

I'll leave you with this: Why wouldn't Ash tell Dawn about his ribbon half?
