The first one is cute, reminds me of colorforms...
But the second one just...it's a game pic of a T-tar, and...well, it needs *something*
Sorry, but I have a lot of critsm about it
First, make your pics somewhat smaller, they could use it and essecially the first one makes the sprites come out better.
Now about the first one, I could say I ove the texture on it, but I got the feling it can be made with one click of the mouse. Still it makres it look kinda neat. Enlarging sprites and putting them on a background is far from original and takes not a slightes piece from the time used for drawning them. Besides, spites shouldn't be made do big, it only makes the pixles come out worse. Then color then pixels who don't got color. The white parts look plain ugly (sorry to say this). And make thuing in a beter compostion. I ooks a bit like random Pokemon putted everywhere
Second one, you're right Blackjack, it's most like a sprtite recolored. Not that I use the sprites for drawing examples as well, but at least I draw them myself, try to get rid of everthing that he same on the sprite, use thinner lines and make them more smooth, and give the outline one and the same color.
Okay, this should help for improvements, I think
I'm not sure what program you used, but if you have Adobe Photoshop, you can make the texture or the Pokemon stand out more with the tools. You could try shading the mountains or the grass, too. Or if you have Photoshop, you could even had a sun glare in the corner.
And the second one, I like the background and text you used, but you could improve the Tyranitar itself a little by playing with the outlines or shading or something.
Thanks to Sul for the sig pic!
Next Sunday: EffeX's sig pic!

Sorry to say this to you, but taking sprites, making them bigger (which btw makes them look really pixelated) and putting them on a background is not what I would call original artwork.

I just literally started doing this and I am expirementing and I was just messing around when I made the Landscape one.
I would not call it original either but I was just messing around with the effects and Put them here to see what y'all think
Thanks for the Suggestions :)
