    Default In a deck

Say I was to include the Lillipup line to my deck, how many Basic, Stage 1 and Stage 2s would I need?

Lillipup is irrelevent, it was merely an example.

I'm not very good at the card game but I think you should have 4 Lilipups, 3-4 Herdiers, and 3 Stoutland. You need 4 Lilipups so that you will have extras when they faint. (destroyed, gone, whatever you call it). And also for the Hediers. But i'm not sure but when I got this deck, it had like 4 and 3 of the same cards.
    ~ Hope this helps.

What about if I were only to have 1 Stage 2s?

It depends on how important it is to the deck, and if you use rare candies.
In the future, please use the simple questions thread.

In a deck based around Stoutland, you'd want a 4-2-4 or a 3-1-3, with four Rare Candy.

This will probably be really silly to a lot of people, but I only ever have one of each in a deck. I only ever battle either friends or family, so I include everything in my decks from cards from the Base Set to cards from the Black & White Set. I much prefer to use as many cards as possible, to see as many as possible and so only ever use one of each - like, I'll only put in one Lillipup, one Herdier and one Stoutland so that I have as much room for other Pokémon as possible.
I know it may seem stupid and bad planning, possibly even making it more difficult than it needs to be, but I look at it from this perspective - my brother used to always do his decks by, for example, four Nidoran (M), two Nidorino and one Nidoking (all Base). Using the same number of cards, I would have, for example, one Nidoran (M), one Nidorino, one Nidoking, one Nidoran (F), one Nidorina, one Nidoqueen and one Chansey (all Base/Jungle). Looking at it in those terms, I have a greater chance of drawing either a new Basic Pokémon or an Evolution of something I already have out, whereas he has a greater chance of pulling out another Nidoran (M). I've seen a situation where he has sitting on his Bench, three Nidoran (M) and one Nidoking. To me, that's kinda useless. Especially if you multiple the chances of what you're gonna draw - say if each of you have 20 Pokémon per deck - that's almost half of his taken up by one Evolutionary line alone and say, hypothetically, his other cards are three Aron, two Lairon, one Aggron, four Pikachu , two Raichu and two Base Chansey - 20. While he has a chance of getting out two Nidoking and two Aggron, he has a greater chance of winding up with a full Bench of Pokémon that he's rendered useless by leaving himself room for only two fully Evolved Pokémon and four basics (or mid-stagers), whereas I would have the potential to have an entire team of six fully Evolved Pokémon and thereby have a greater chance of winning.

I know that was a bit of a long-winded off-topic response, but I honestly think the best way to go is 1-1-1 because you're gonna increase your chances of winning that way in my opinion.
